Well, Holtz, thanks for volunteering:

Question1: Well, Holtz, as Big Fish noted, you're an old "new breed" this season having begun your BB journey back in Season 5. More importantly, you have spent 11 of your 17 seasons in BB in Div II.1. Wow! How does it feel to return to the very same Div II you relegated out of not so many seasons ago?

It feels like the BB Gods still need to punish me for my previous sins. It is a long history in the league, maybe too long, but in the end it is probably consistently one of, if not the best, league in the Aussie community. There is great banter, strong games, strong teams, and some rivals with long histories. I have had my share of interesting rivals in this league, including probably the most famous one of pwanage, who ironically I replaced. Overall it is good to be back in II.1.

Question2: Having spent so much time in Div II, what nugget of wisdom can you offer hose teams, like myself, who find themselves in div II for the first time?

The only nugget I probably have will help you not get promoted into ABBL. Each league you go up is a big jump, so being in a Div II for the first time would seem like a big difference, you can no longer cruise along getting the wins without thinking. Each position on the court is important, and you can lose a game through 1 weak position. The managers are good enough to be able to work out how to defend your strength in attack and expose your weakness in defence. You can no longer win with 2 monster players and the rest filling in the gaps.

Question 3: Back in Season 13 you spent a season in the ABBL after promoting from Div II.1. Since then you have, it would seem, banked and trained...a sizable fortune. So much so that in the past few seasons you have spent more than 6 million dollars! Your current roster salary is about $340k and you have a healthy mix of youth and wisdom. Does your pot of gold have a bottom? Should your fellow Div II.1 opponents be wary of the Meateors ability to spend?

I have a different strategy now, but in the end I do not have a bottomless pit of money. I am starting to get more interested in training youth in certain positions, buying experience in others. No need to worry, I do not see myself spending much more this season.

Question 4: Enough about your team. Who is Holtz? What floats your boat in the real world? For someone like myself who knows little about you, the man behind the mask, what should I know about Holtz?

In other games like Hattrick, I am G-O-M (grumpy old man). But I have a family with 4 kids all in school, my escape time is games like Buzzerbeater. Worked in the security industry for ages, including 10 years as a cop in NSW. Love all types of sport, have even been known to sit down and watch a game of curling. Holtz I take from Gustav, the classical composer of the planets (Mars, the bringer of war, is a great piece of music). Love the AFL, love the Magpies.

Question 5: All right, enough of the personal shit! It seems fair to say that you've had a few players in your time in BB. Who is/was your favourite player and why?

Sosaia Carrington (5151377) He was a home grown, I think I picked him up in my first draft. He always had a happy knack of being able to play big, take control of a game and win it in the last quarter. Time and time again Carrington would explode in the 4th and win a game for me.

Question 6: Finally, you started the season with a loss, Holtz, but have won the last two in a row, rolling fellow New Breeder, Fresh Princes, in the process. What is your take on the New Breed this season and how ready do you think they are for Div II?

I think they are more prepared that when I first promoted. I see in some rosters a big 100K salary player, 2-3 good support, but also 1-2 weak positions. It is ok to have a weak position, just have to know how to protect it. Looking at the table so far, the 'new breed' are no easy beats. should be a good season.

A big thanks for answering the questions, Holtz.

* So, the Big Fish is still the Big Fish.
* Both he and Bainsy are still undefeated.
* the Fresh Princes are still to open their Div II account.
* Still a lot of movement on account of the Cup

I was starting to go through teams to update team salaries but it starte to become a slog. I will get through it in the coming days and post it. I can say that of the 8 teams I have looked at so far, there are some big purchases going on around the leagues New Breeders Home Axis and UWA Panthers (Bringing Sexy Back), for example, have added to theirrosters. Axis123 did have as of my last update (26/8/12) a $456k roster. It is now closer to $550k!!! Ridiculous. Brooksy has lifted his previous $370k roster to $450k. Makes my additions ($285 to $385) minute. Will post update soon.
I will also, if I can find the time (and energy), the up-and-coming Cup matches for New Breeders.

We need a name for our inaugural New Breeder Cup? Awarded to the New Breeder that performs the best out of all Div II leagues. Whether it is decided on the win/loss/percentage record or by vote...

...Needs a decent name...?
