Round 2 MVPs now, a touch late, but whatever (A little short, cause I'm struggling to find the time to do these at the moment)

Zazzocaplyse defeated Whitebeard (91-79)
Despite a shocking shooting game, Whitebeard was kept in it by winning the boards, and stealing the ball. However, with a couple of players fouled out, they went down in double overtime, as Zazz claims an ABBL scalp. Do to an abysmal shooting game from both teams, really hard to pick votes in this one.

3. Jean Phillipe Meneau (Zaz) - 32 points
This guys name just couldn't get any more French. If they get their Jean-Phillipes where are our Bruces and Franks? A great shooting game, and he kept a much more highly fancied opponent to 9-37 shooting.

2. Jarkko Kurola (WB) - 7 points, 21 boards
Really hard to pick a number 2, with not many standouts. However, the reason Whitebeard remained in the game was due to the boards, and teh reason they won the boards was this bloke, so he fits the definition of MVP better than anyone else. Held his opponent reasonably quiet to.

1. Chiu Choong Khan (Zaz) - 10 points, 24 boards
Picked up a bunch of boards, mainly because Whitebeard missed a shedload of shots. But he also deserves some credit for keeping the Whitebeard bigs pretty quiet.

Pancakes with Jam and Cream defeated Monkey Business (100-82)
Pancakes blew this one out early, but relinquished much of their lead in the third. A big fourth quarter got them over the line, despite being poor from the foul line. For the second time in two weeks, Lewi Arena was double booked, resulting in mass confusion all round (is my arena really popular or something?)

3. Plino Couto Costa (PJC) - 30 points, 5 assists
If Pancakes win, Couto gets the three votes. That really should just be a given by now. Shot well, and blanketed his opponent.

2. Josh Dowd (PJC) - 25 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds
Joshy boy seems to the Pancakes Mr. do it all nowadays. Scores a few points, gets some boards, dishes some passes, and does enough of all three to pick up the two votes here.

1. Stephane Chaudier (MB) - 24 points
Chaudier may have a girls name, but he was comfortably the best Monkey player out there tonight, despite receive taunts about his name all night long from Pancakes nasty boy and all round bad bloke Jack Long.

Lewisham Wombats defeated Billy Hoyles Boys (105-87)
Some Kevin on Kevin action at the other Kevin's arena made this a suitable Kevin affair. The Wombats kick started their Fishbowl season with a big final quarter. Not quite 51 points, but we'll take it.

3. Aggelos Panagiotopolous (WOM) - 27 points, 20 rebounds
Big Aggie continued his rich vein of form this season, dominating the glass with 9 offensive boards, and scoring a team high 27 points.

2. Jackson Goodall (WOM) - 24 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals
Little Jackson was All-Good in this game, doing a bit of everything, a draining an impressive 6 three pointers. Also forced Edwards into numerous turnovers.

1. Mikey Bergman (BHB) - 28 points, 6 boards, 5 assists
Mikey didn't quite have the defensive game that is expected of him, but he was the shining light for the the Boys on offense. Took the points in a good battle with Trimailovas.

Baxter Bogans defeated Black Label Society (95-92)
Baxter continued a great start to the season taking down the reigning Big 8 champs without one of their star players in Renaud. BLS were missing a starter as well, and had a player foul out (and a coach who didn't want ot use substitutions. At all). But still a very nice win, and Baxter are maybe looking at very early favouritism for the Fishbowl title.

3. Grgur Fatur (BLS) - 40 points, 18 rebounds
I'm loathe to give the three votes to the losing team, but Fatur was by far and away the best player on the court, and kept his team in the game. Just couldn't quite get them over the line, and as such he is very angry. Grr.

2. Ingmar Weichhaus - 28 points, 14 rebounds
Weichaus scored well, and kept Caio relatively quiet, which is no mean feat. Also swatted away three shots.

1. Giovanni Castaldo - 16 points, 9 rebounds
Tough call for the one vote, but Castaldo just beats out Dordevic because a) he fouled out his opponent, b) he was slightly more efficient, and c) he didn't let his opponent score 40 points on him...

Victoria Mages defeated Kynlala Knights (92-88)
The second ABBL team to go down to a D2er in OT this round. Let's face it, either the refs like the underdogs, or they were paid off in this one. Kynlala shot better, but 29 fouls to 13 in favour of the Mages, and fouling out 3 Knights was the difference in this one.

3. The Referee (VM) - 29 fouls given
The best player on the court in this game, helped the Mages to a handy win.

(OK, I kid...)

3. Francois Navvaro (VM) - 21 points, 17 boards
Scored efficently, was dominant on the boards, and kept his opponent pretty quiet. Navvaro was influential, and continues the Frenchie dominance of this round.

2. Eugenio Dell'Asta (KK) - 30 points, 12 rebounds
Put in a mountain of work, playing all 53 minutes, but couldn't drag his team over the line. Needs more support from his teammates (or less of them to foul out), but seems to enjoy the Princeton offense.

1. Mierko Garcia (VM) 27 points
Is no longer a Mage, but contributed nicely and helped them to a win in one of his last games for the club. Made the most of his opportunities at the foul line, and picked up 4 steals as well.

Koopasaurus defeated Viral Infections (102 - 87)
This one appeared to be somewhat of a tank-off. The Infections are apparently better at tanking.

3. Wazza Kennerley (KP) - 26 points, 13 rebounds
Wazzzzaaaa showed again why he is one of the best SFs in Australia. Barely missed a shot, grabbed a heap of boards, and swatted some shots for good measure. Very good all round game.

2. Tory Kelley (VI) - 26 points 14 rebounds
See write-up for Wazza. Except this guy is NOT one of the best SFs in Australia. Replace best with worst.

1. Adriano Bassi (KP) - 22 points, 16 rebounds
This guy was the dominant big man on the court, didn't let anything by him on defense, and was a monster on the boards.

With mllama finding less and less time on BB I thought I'd help this lad for one week and one week only on the MVP write ups.
Here goes..

Whitebeard defeated Viral Infections (119-42)

Nothing has changed with Naker. Half of his players are up for sale and he continues to field a 5 man roster for the PL games. As the saying goes "why fix it if it ain't broken", Naker is true to those words and he is adamant that his choice of play style works and will go to great lengths to prove it (as seen in recent forums posts about baksetball 101 and '0-8 > 1-17 FGA'). Meanwhile whitebeard has been getting along quite well in the PL and in the ABBL with a formidable squad.

3. O. Liniger (WB) 31 pts, 12 rebs 17-17 FG
This guy can't miss, simply amazing. A performance even Naker can't argue against.

2. J. Kurola (WB) 24 pts, 22 rebs
A rare 20/20 game for this Finnish center, even if it was against weaker opponents.

1. E. Koivumäki (WB) 28 pts, 7 reb, 4 ast
A solid performance for a solid SG. Expect more results like this from this Finnish SG though out the season.

Lewisham Wombats defeats Pancakes with Jam and Cream (114-91)

Even if he is AWOL, the wombats remain vigilant. Right from the get go it was always going to be a competitive game until P. Couto Costa (PAN) got injured in 6 mins of play, the wombats took control of the game and never gave c-cat a chance. Dubbed the game of the week for the West PL, this game turned into a one sided affair towards the end of the game. Even L. Gafa (LW) got a chance to shine and show the whole PL how it use to be done, going for 10-15 FG and 5-5 from long range.

3. R. Vinkelis (PAN) 36 pts, 11 rebs
This bigman from Latvia picked up the slack when his team mate Costa went down injured. He tried his best to keep his team in it and single handedly dominated the paint with 15 trips to the foul line and going for 13-16 FG. For such a relentless effort he is rewarded the maximum points.

2. L. Gafa (LW) 27 pts, 2 blks
Even though he logged most of his minutes in garbage time when the game was well and truly over, there is no denying this vintage performance. 10-15 FG and 5-5 from three point range was all that was needed from this one trick pony.

1. B. Yalduz (LW) 14 pts, 4 rebs 3 ast
It was difficult to determine where the final point would go, but ultimately went to Yulduz for his balanced stat sheet as well playing good defense on J. Dowd.

Black Label Society defeated Billy Hoyles Boys (90-61)

Either BLS was trying to show why he is still the best team in Australia (sorry WA is a dump and all the other top ABBL teams =p) or 2-3 zone is utterly broken. This game turned out to be a drubbing in the end. Or maybe BLS brang out the whip this time round after a surprising loss to Baxter Bogans last week.

3. G. Fatur (BLS) 17 pts, 8 rebs
This beast from the east (eastern europe) ignited a mini run in the 2nd quarter with amazing passes and crazy defensive rebounds. He capped it off with another mini run in the 3rd quarter when he scored "5 in a row!" and pulled some defensive rebounds.

2. J. Poppenbüttel (BLS) 19 pts, 3 rebs, 2 ast
Did a great job defensively on his SG counterparts and scored the most points in the match. On top of hittin 50% of his shots, it came from a look inside offense which makes it even more impressive.

1. Y. Keinan (BHB) 17 points, 20 rebs
Tried to match it pound for pound with Direwolf's big boys, this fella game it all he could with terrific inside play. On top of his 20 rebs he went for 10-10 from the charity as well as registering a trey, a steal and a block. The only donut he got was the zero assists, but that was because his team mates failed to score everytime he passed it to them.

Monkey Business defeated Kynlala Knights (95-83)

This game was more then just another PL game, it was an important benchmark for both monkeybiz and iwen. It marked the debut for P Tau, a strong prospect for the senior NT squad. It also set a gauge on how strong these conference rivals are. Kynlala Knights fielded only 5 players on the court and consequently paid the price for it, having lost the 4th quarter and hence the game. With a long season left, expect iwen's team to improve vastly by the end of the season likewise with monkeybiz who has already raced out of the blocks in the ABBL.

3. Z. Bui (MB) 19pts, 3 rebs, 3ast
Performed well with decent stats across the board and kept D. Ton to one field goal. He even put up decent FG% along with 3 treys against a 3-2 zone.

2. P. Tau (KK) 19 pts, 22 rebs
Nearly got a 20/20 with 2 blocks to boot. Those are bread and butter numbers for a superstar bigmen like Tau. With improved gameshape he will prove to be a handfull for many of the teams in the West PL as well as the ABBL.

1. S. Deguang (MB) 10 pts, 18 rebs
Scored a double double and his 18 rebounds was an enormous yet important figure. It kept monkeybiz in game where he was out rebounded 60 to 47. He also kept Tau to repectable levels.

Baxter Bogans beat Koopasaurus (100-86)

The ever consistent Trixster pulled out the unproven Inside Iso tactic. That move totally baffled Koops players as they did not prepare well for that type of offense and hence they got smashed in the 1st quarter. However after a bewildered start they steadied ship and kept the next 3 quarters close. The rebound count was also 63-34 and with that baxter bogans remains undefeated in the West PL with 3-0.

3. I. Weichhaus (BB) 30 points, 15 rebs
Impressive numbers for this young german. What a great find for baxter bogans got got him for 1.4mil.

2. A. Rooney (KS) 14 pts, 6 rebs, 7 ast
When things were beginning to go pear shaped, he slapped some sense into his boys and steered them in the right direction. Rooney did a bit of everything to keep his side in the hunt.

3. G. Castaldo 19 pts, 16 rebs
Good FG%, good points total and good rebounding, not bad for a big guys playing in the SF position. Even gave Wazza a ru n for his money with a steal and a block and more importantly kept Wazza to 10-26 FG.

Zazzocalypse defeated VictoriaMages 108-76

This was the battle of the div 2 teams or is it? With results like this sometimes it is hard to contemplate whether Zazz is a div2 or ABBL team. Sitting pretty on top of the West PL standings and having beaten some "cough* quality *cough* ABBL teams thus far, Zazz looks set to promote to the ABBL. Splitj on the other hand is still trying to unload Peter Still who was kept in check by J. Villarreal. he also seems to be going for promotion to the ABBL and is only a few purchases away from it.

3. J. Meneau (ZA) 37 pts, 5 rebs, 4 ast
This French sensation was wreaking havoc. The 5 treys and 3 steals was icing on the cake.

2. J. Villarreal (ZA) 27 pts, 5 rebs, 3 ast
This Venusian did a bit of everything, he pretty much had a perfect game only marred by his 6 fouls. I wonder if he has a supermodel sister in the Miss Universe pageant?

1. F. Navarro (VM) 19 pts, 14 rebs, 4 ast
Another French who rebounded and scored well this game. When he couldn't score he passed the ball pretty well.

Cheers, I'm not that AWOL, just busy with work. Hopefully should ease up in a couple of weeks time ;)

Anyway, onto the leaderboard, barring any appeals. Fatur manages his third best on in a row, despite not being at his best. The flying Frenchman is a fair way back in 2nd, with a pack of players 4 votes behind in third.

Fishbowl West MVPs Round 4 Part 1

These will be a little fast so I hope everyone will forgive them being a little brief.

Zazzocalypse vs. Kynlala Knights 118 - 109

Zazzocalypse continued her dominant performance this season with another game where she put up some very impressive ratings. Prominent in both PD and OS and proficient in ID made it hard for even the amazing Knight guards score. The fact that Zazz does this week after week against ABBL teams is a wonder. I wouldn't want to be in her division II. This heartbreaking loss in double overtime shows how close the West is with the top team and the 3rd bottom going at it for 58 minutes to get a result.

3 Jean-Philippe Meneau Zazzocalypse 39 PTS. Scored a ton and at a good clip too and even better got to the free throw line for 8/10.

2 Duong Tôn Kynlala Knights 28 PTS 6 AST 4 REB. Ton played all 58 minutes and would have had a lot more assists if McArthur had actually not missed 24 shots during this match.

1 Gary Lawrance Zazzocalypse 20 PTS 21 REB 14.0 rating. A double double double for this 23 year old MVP. I don't know if he is still getting trained but if he is he will be a terror in a season or two.

Baxter Bogans vs. Whitebeard 86 - 74

The Calamari haven't had much to cheer about this season and this matchup of their new top recruit vs the Sharks new recruit was a big one. The Bogan's continued to impress and are still probably the one shining light for the squid along with the Titans in the South. An incredible 6 Bogans scored a personal rating of 14.0 or higher to 2 on Whitebeard and the sheer number of defensive stars the Bogans have assembled showed as Whitebeard struggled to score especially in the 3rd where they were kept to an incredible 6 points.

3 Giovanni Castaldo Baxter Bogans 23 PTS 15 REB 14.0 rating. Can a man with 8 turnovers get the MVP? Well it says here that he can as "Slippery" Giovanni constantly passed the ball to the stands and collected not one assist in 43 minutes his team still surged ahead with a +/- of +15 as he scored, defended and controled the glass.

2 Joachim Calzado Whitebeard 33 PTS 16.0 rating. I was a little tempted to give him 3 points but being on the losing team and the fact that while he scored well he shot badly (1-10 from 3 point) made it not possible.

1 Ingmar Weichhaus Baxter Bogans 14 PTS 11 REB 16.0 rating. Another 16.0 rating, there was certainly a lot of high quality play here and in just 30 minutes he got the stats of a full game man.

Fishbowl West MVPs Round 4 Part 2

Black Label Society vs. Pancakes with Jam and Cream 94 - 78

Last season Pancakes with Jam and Cream were the bully boys pushing all the other teams in the West around seemingly at will. This season with the arrival of teams like the Bogans, Wombats and the Scoiety that has all changed. Suddenly they have to fight for their wins like everyone else. The Society still probably smarthing from their 3 point loss to the Bogans left nothing to chance as they let their world class big men go to work inside. The Cream matched with the exact same tactics with the same BBB standard bigs achieved an incredible prolific inside scoring rating. While it is perhaps unfair to blame a loss on one player the lack of production from the SF position where Roman Jaanus had 4 points and 0 assists in 39 minutes may have been the factor.

3 Grgur Fatur Black Label Society 17 PTS 11 REB 17.0 rating. The man who needs a vowel showed why he is on the Hrvatska NT dominating at both ends of the floor and only needing 12 shots to generate his 17 points. He also threw in 4 asists and 3 blocks.

2 Maciej Kuman Pancakes with Jam and Cream 29 PTS 11 REB 15.5 rating. A name familiar to anyone who followed season 3 of the Fishbowl he was probably in the top 3 players in the league last season. A typical afficient and dominant performance.

1 Martinho Caio Black Label Society 23 PTS 8 REB 17.0 rating. Caio wanted the MVP award but 8 rebounds isn't enough for a starting center and Grgr (sic) was both more efficient and contributed in more areas.

Lewisham Wombats vs. Monkey Business 98 - 106

Was this the upset of the round? The mighty Wombats one of the most respected teams in all of Aussie BB taken down by the ABBL newcomers. What is the world coming to? The Wombats had a teriffic offence but the Business had a terrific defence. The Wombats actually won in terms of shots made, shots attempted, rebounds and assists. So how did they lose? Two things. The Business had 6 more 3 pointers and a MASSIVE 25-8 advantage in free throw attempts.

3 Gabriele Messineo Monkey Business 38 PTS. Scored.

2 Aggelos Panagiotopoulos Lewisham Wombats 20 REB. Rebounded.

1 Marco Manara Monkey Business 26 PTS. Also scored.

Fishbowl West MVPs Round 4 Part 3

Koopasaurus vs. Billy Hoyles Boys 46 - 64

We all know Koopasaurus is pathetic (I can say that in safety as he confessed that he doesn't read these) but 46 points for a game? Seriously? Considering he has players that he paid $5,000,000 for I don't know what was up with this match. Khan a $26,000 SG at PF? Perhaps this was another case of the Kevin Virus at work, I thought it only afected other members of Kevin.

3 Wazza Kennerley Koopasaurus 23 PTS 9 REB 12.5 rating. C-Cat, sorry, get ready for the appeal. I'm sure everyone else will want to give the MVP to someone on the winning side that had 8 points in 24 minutes but seriously he is the only player in the entire game to get good stats.

2 Yishai Keinan Billy Hoyles Boys 10 PTS 12 REB 16.5 rating. If the injury prone Kenian (curreltly out for 2 weeks) had played the more than 18 minutes he would have had a dominating game.

1 Gianfrancesco Lucia Billy Hoyles Boys 12 PTS 12 REB 16.0 rating. A bit of a coin toss with Mikey Bergman but the 12 points was a team high.

Viral Infections vs. VictoriaMages 68 - 97

At the beginning of the season it was said that this would be the battle for the wooden spoon but the Mages have tricked a lot of people recently. With matching tactics the factor was that the Infections guards were no match of the Mages especially Marconi who laid a big 0-11 egg and that is no lie.

3 Nicola Bandiera VictoriaMages 20 PTS 13 REB 14.5 rating. He was misleading all game and didn't just stuff the stat sheet he was deceptivly efficient and had beguiling defence.

2 Peter Still VictoriaMages 20 PTS 15 REB 5 AST. Their latest trick was somehow selling this 25 year old PF with just prominent IS for $1,400,000.

1 Radoine Guilleux Viral Infections 22 PTS 14 REB. For sale right now with the bidding currently at $35,000.
