Defiantly - in previous years i have decided to have a decent crack at the cup and have tanked in league games to keep my cup run going. After missing the playoffs on points difference twice (largely due to playing scrubs in league games i knew i was going to lose and getting done by 50+) i figured this year i would disregard the cup and make sure i made the playoffs in my league.

No doubt i'll finish 5th again.

I think it was easier for me in the cup when i was in Div 2 because i knew i was going to beat my opponents easily most weeks. I had 2 QF finishes in the ABBL and one in Div 2 as well as a last 16 so i don't think 2 vs ABBL makes a huge difference other than the top ABBL teams having greater depth which can help them have deep cup runs more regularly.

Always great to see an underdog beat the top teams in the cup. However I've seen this happen numerous times when division 2-4 teams who are considered one of the favourites in their league to promote cost themselves this opportunity because of a long cup campaign which resulted in more losses in the league thus missing out home court advantage during the playoffs.

Great thread guys. I feel a lot more knowledgeable after reading this. At the moment I've been trying to soak up as much information as possible and it's things like this that make it a lot easier for me
Will be looking forward to the next write up after tomorrow nights games.

Round 5 Upsets Summary

ABBL

Only 1 ABBL team lost this week. The Canberra Crushers (5) lost 102 - 109 to a DIVISION 4 team!!! Windsor As, ranked 255 in the world. Now that is shameful. Shame shame shame.

Div II

My old pals the City Celtics (73) beat fellow Div IIer, Eggplantpopolopolous (54) 84 - 99 ...Team name of the week winner there
ACT Blaze(151) 92 - 87 High School Drop-outs(10 )
Haggards(30) 49 - 115 Stone Slashers(34)
Chirny Lakers(208) 102 - 58 Aussie Battlers (33)

Div III

Svetties(114) 126 - 131 Lewisness(143)
ChelseaBlue(162) 86 - 58 Massive Ballers(94)
Melbourne Redbacks(86) 73 - 74 Mangoloids(134) - Ouch 1 point! Interesting last minute of the game, where nobody can bloody score!

Div IV

All the DIV 4 teams either beat someone higher, or appropriately lost.

So there are still 2 division IV teams in the final 32, 12 Division III teams, 12 Division II teams and only 6 Division I teams remaining. 2 of those Div I teams are playing each other, so tere is a good chance here for an upset of a non-Div I team winning the cup. I am unfortunately out, having lost in this round i just reviewed. I had a good run. Final 64, for a Div III team is pretty good. Still.. *sniff*

I made the mistake of playing TIE in that game and only playing my regular starters on the bench or not at all.
Thought i'd have enough to get the W, but congrats to Mangoloids for getting the W. Disappointing loss at this stage, but there's always next season.

Most important did you see who their best player was? My old draft pick Wazza Tickle! My guys are spreading everywhere like a virus, but not a Naker Virus.
