England 102 Israel 110

A disappointing end to a disappointing campaign. We led after three quarters against Italy. We led at half time against Croatia, and after dominating the third quarter against Israel, we surrendered once more in the last.

Very similar shooting stats, indeed both teams ratings were also very similar, and the major difference is in fouls, and therefore free throws. This comes in spite of the fact that we had a higher rating on inside defence than them, though of course their interior offence was higher than ours.

I could have predicted LI. I considered it, and then decided in what I expected to be a close game, to play safe. Frankly I thought if either team made a wrong prediction that would decide the game. Equally if either of us had got it right, that would have had the same effect, but I did feel that us playing LI was unpredictable.

Its been quite a strange season, no one has really played us off the court, yet we've had a losing season. I expected and wanted better. I think perhaps if I'd aimed lower, we could certainly have had a winning season. However, I don't think that's the right way to proceed. I decided very early in the season to retain enthusiasm at all costs. I felt we had enough talent in the team to surprise either one of Italy or Croatia. That that didn't occur is something I'm sorry about, but I do feel we were somewhat unfortunate to have lost the last four games.

Thanks to everyone involved with the players. Game shape can never be perfect every week, but the worst ours could be described as is very good. Thanks also to those people who've helped me behind the scenes, notably Lemonshine and Vecx.

On now to scrimmages and then hopefully, an improved second season for me.

Gully.

I'll be reviewing the season later, hopefully this week, but before then I'd like to bring up something I said last week about the Croatia game.

At the time I said:
... they played BO and normalled, which has come as a big shock. I don't recall considering them normalling even for a second. I don't feel I made a mistake, as I don't see it being the correct decision for them, but it happened and won them the game.

I did of course think about going normal myself, but, though we had to win this game to stay alive, I felt there was no point in winning by using precious enthusiasm, which might lead to a loss next week, and failing anyway, or limping through qualification and being wasted by the time the next game comes along.

Last night Croatia lost to Italy, and Belarus beat Germany. Belarus's pd was equal to Croatia's but Belarus have qualified. By using normal against us, I believe Croatia sacrificed qualification for the win. It made no sense to me last week, and makes none now.

Unofficial Season 27 stats. (I had to add them up). If someone spots an error I'd love to know about it, though I wouldn't recommend checking them personally. Apologies for not separating them by categories but this was a tad easier.

Well, that looks a lot uglier than I intended. I may sort them out later so its more readable.
