I'd almost prefer they just limit the Cup to human players, although in the US that would mean roughly 500 human players would have been left out this season. Which is how the problem gets started. If you include everyone, you can end up needing to have a lot of bots if the number of people isn't close the right number to create a tournament. And once you have those bots, random seeding will result in a number of them playing each other or low level humans who certainly have teams little better than bots.

But overall, I prefer the randomness as it gives lower division teams some chance to advance in the cup. If it was seeded the entire way, then it just becomes another way for upper division teams to make additional money, helping them to stay at the top. While upper division teams are still favored, the current system does allow for both some surprise upsets as well as the chance of upper level teams playing each other early. Poor BHT not only had to face SUN in round 2 but now another DII team next week.

And yes, my Cup run this season (though I love it) is probably the perfect illustration of why an entirely-randomly drawn Cup is an episode of bullshittery.

So what should it be based on? Based on your CR, you should have only faced bots so far and you have. Your Cup run this season is basically the same as what it would be if a non-random system were implemented.

Although I think the Hattrick system (country rank 1 vs. lowest remaining team, etc) is just as bullshitty for different reasons, I do think that the odds of bots surviving to round 4 would be fairly low since they'd be facing off against human teams in the third round for sure (unless more than 500 human managers manage to lose to bots at least).

I haven't thought enough of what would be better to give a great suggestion for an alternative. Maybe for each round when a bot remains, splitting the remaining teams into two pools, with the bots and lowest remaining teams into one pool, and matchups are drawn with the lower pool being home. I think once the bots are cleared random draws are probably okay. I just dislike the thought that we had an interleague game in round 2 and yet in round 4, there are 8 matches between d6 bots, plus probably more than a few VI vs. V bots (I didn't bother checking those).

I like this. Or, what if there was simply a strict country rank system until bots were cleared, and then it switched to random? Your 'pool of bots and weak teams' idea is more interesting, but could be harder to implement. Then again, I have no idea how easy it would be to implement a strict country ranking match-up system (#1 vs #8000 ,#2 vs #7999, etc...). The worse ranked teams getting home court makes sense either way.

Just at a quick glance, your opponent's SF and SG are much better than a typical bot scrub...

But enthusiasm + GDP is all about boosting defense? I'd get if it were a close game due to me not scoring. Instead it was a shoot out & even my sub 5k DMI backup went crazy offensively. (In fact my backup scrub shot much better than that opposing SG you mentioned!)

Both bots we played put up similar inside/outside scoring ratings.
Yet i gave up multiple 30 point quarters, & even got outscored 37-27 in the 3rd. Despite a 3 level advantage in OD, ID, & Reb. Well since you're a GM, thought I'd ask if this has anything to do with the unannounced changes they've made to outside shooting? Or any of the other stuff BB has changed without announcing?

Whoa - the Cantaloupes are one tough team.

I had them under control, and then their shooters started lighting it up, and then they completely shut me down in the 4th.
Ouch. Forced 5 TO's from Kenny Cheek, who I don't think has ever committed that many in a game, ever.

The Elopers are a team to watch. For sure.

That's why no one wanted to draw them in the playoffs last season! Quite possibly would've made the finals had they finished 4th instead of 3rd.

I was perplexed by the Clogs picking up a serious baller, Rodolfo Cirillo, until I went and looked at his player quote.
That made me laugh pretty hard.

Yeah, I've been looking most of the season for a guy at roughly that salary level who had one glaring guard skill hole and was still trainable, since my quest to find 18 year old guys to train for whatever the hell I plan on doing in the future failed, in no small part because I never made up my mind. This guy's pretty nice, too - 9JS, 10 DR and 9 PA, plus 6 JR and HA, 18 in IS and RB and 15 ID... and that nasty 1 OD. So, yeah, I have a trainer now and he'll be playing a ton of PG and turning the ball over a lot.

That sounds like a good plan. Also, with your draft pick this season, you're going to have some high quality youth on your team for future seasons. Your new C is going to be a ridiculous monster in DIII or DIV (if you decide to drop that far).

I fully expect that the best player in the draft will be Brian Scalabrine's less-talented 18 year old cousin.

get yourself some cheap, but malicious players, like Matt Deladedova or Kelly Olynyk.

sort of a Plan B strategy: if you can't beat 'em, then take 'em out.
