No Miracles
The matchup everyone was waiting for finally arrived and as predicted China was simply too good for Team Pilipinas as they won 116-104 in last nights closing games for the first round of the Asian Cup Championships. Poor offensive flow was so evident on the Pilipinas side as Lyndon "The Captain" dela Pena wasn't around as he was down with a severe injury. Johnas Dispo had his best scoring game so far this season with 24 points but still wasn't enough to pull down a win. Marlon Benedicto added 19 points and 17 rebounds also to the losing cause.
"No excuses tonight China simply was the better team. Losing dela Pena to an injury was a big factor as his replacement Chandler Mosquera wasn't up to the task of distributing the ball sadly. China had 26 assists to our 14 but we outrebounded them 56 to 48." Lolo Smithz said during the post game interview. "Everyone starts at zero on the next round so every game must count if we are to reach the semis and the finals. I hope we won't have any more injuries to our key players."
When asked what were the chances of Team Pilipinas winning it all Lolo Smithz has this to say. "I'm a realist so I would say chances would be less than 50 percent. Currently it looks like Hong Kong, Taiwan and China are the team to beat and in the 2nd round if I'm not mistaken we are going to be lumped with Hong Kong and Taiwan making our group the group of death. China should have an easier path to the semis and the finals. Do miracles still happen? I really hope they still do."

Sakit sa Hong Kong nun, pati yung GDP. Pero at least coach tapos na pinakamahirap na kalaban sa group. Maganda din na nagpi-peak ang laro ng players sa tamang oras. Ang galing coach!

Calculated risk ko yung normal coz if tie tayo parang talo tayo talaga. Next game sa HK ay halimaw Taiwan 6-0 din sa 1st round. Talo HK next game 0-2 na sila. Mahirap na yan nakaabot ng semis if ganun. So laking decision gawin nila na magnormal ba sila o magtie. Same din sa Taiwan.
Sana yung ginawa ko makatulong sa atin in the end. Either way a win is a win. :)

The Veteran Strikes
After a 30 second timeout by Team Pilipinas at 2:48 mark of the 4th quarter, Edgardo Discar looked at the scoreboard seeing a 5 point Hongkong lead (103-98) andthen look at starting PG Ulan Cantara. Cantara was already fatigued after scoring 33 points so far in the game keeping Pilipinas within striking distance of an upset win. Discar decided to take matters in his own hands.
Discar ran down the 24 second clock and took a 3 point shot which missed but he was able to snag down the offensive rebound and then ran outside to shoot another three which found its mark slashing the HK lead to 2. After Cleofas blocked a shot the ball was thrown again to Discar who took another 3 pointer but was fouled in the process. Discar calmly sank three free throws to give Pilipinas a 1 point lead 104 to 103. 5 seconds after HK inbounded the ball Discar swiped the ball that lead to another shot by Johnas Dispo. At that point HK's offense crumbled which enabled Team Pilipinas to snatch a come from behind win 118 to 106. Coach Lolo Smithz was seen jumping for joy after the game ended and was seen hugging and high fiving his players.
Lolo Smithz was all praise for the hero of the game. "That was an incredible and amazing win. One for the books. Discar again saved the day for the NT squad with his savvy veteran moves. That 6 point explosion and that steal was a game changer which emboldened our team to finish the game strong. At 31 he already has a one to two seasons left of NT service for our country. With this game he has cemented his place as one of the best shooting guards to grace the Pilipinas NT squad ever."
"Of course the win wouldn't have been possible if Ulan "The Rainman" Cantara hadn't chipped in 37 points also. He shot an amazing 15 out of 21 shoots playing point and adding 5 assists and 3 rebounds to his magnificent effort. We also made 21 out of 22 free throws which is quite amazing for a high octane game like this. Marlon Benedicto had a 19 points and 13 rebounds game to add to our success today. Johnas Dispo was ineffective in the first half scoring only 2 points but scored 13 points in the 3rd and 4th quarter to greatly help out cause also."
"4 more games to go. Just win three and we are one step into the semis. Miracles still do happen it seems." :)

yep based sa nabasa ko inside iso needs players who can go inside and score if not they need to shoot the ball outside also. parang princeton din pero ito is more team based as compared to princeton which is pass to the front court first. maganda ang inside scoring ni ulan that's why mahirap pigilin mismatch sa guard spot. may isang player pa tayo sana na masmagaling ni ulan na inside guard pero pangit ang GS. ganda sana tingnan dalawang guards scoring at will.
try niyo inside iso you will see so many 3 point shots being attempted. more than 20 usually.
nakita ko din sa game ng HK muntik sila natalo sa inside iso sa first round 3 point win lang so ginamit ko na rin. either way it was a game for us to lose naman.

try niyo ito hanap kayo ng isang guard mababa ang JR like average to respectable lang. mataas ang JS (stupendous up) and mataas ang driving at handling (prodigious up) then e magpatient ka. he will drive and shoot midrange shoots more often when he has a mismatch. parang inside iso ang lumabas. skill niya sa outside shooting is low so more often hindi siya tumira outside the 3 point line pero deadly siya sa midrange at driving. if may IS siya (at least strong) you will see him dunk the ball when driving.
ito isang player ko dati. patient ko palagi umabot ng 30 to 50's a game.
Jump Shot: stupendous Jump Range: average
Outside Def.: marvelous Handling: wondrous
Driving: prodigious Passing: prominent
Inside Shot: pitiful Inside Def.: average
Rebounding: respectable Shot Blocking: pitiful
Stamina: inept Free Throw: sensational
