Put your trainee as a starter to be safe:
PG, Backup PG, PG
SG, Backup SG, SG
SF, Backup SF, SF
PF, Backup PF, PF
Trainee, Trainee, Trainee
Do NOT keep any other players on the bench. Just select those 9 in total. This works for me for 5 years.
