I've got Whiteside in a Fantasy Basketball League so I know his value doesn't equate to his draft position or salary. Lots of young guys are still on Rookie salaries so they are easier to pick up. I went with a team I think could compete this season as well as a few seasons into the future.

I have 1757 players for sale and I'm $25,835,360 in debt. Buy them at outrageous prices, or be selfish and make me go bankrupt. You decide, BB.

The cap is expected to rise and I would have BIRD rights anyways so my GM will just have to overspend to keep it together

Here's what my Fantasy Basketball Team looks like with their salaries added as well. I'm in a 14 team league.

Elfrid Payton - $2,505,720.00
Jimmy Butler - $15,260,000.00
Kawhi Leonard - $16,500,000.00
Jae Crowder - $6,000,000.00
Haasan Whiteside - $981,348.00

Trevor Ariza - $8,193,030.00
Clint Capela - $1,242,720.00
Gorgui Dieng - $1,474,440.00
Archie Goodwin - $1,160,160.00
Robin Lopez - $13,000,000.00

Team Total $66,317,418.00

Second Team:
Stamford Snow Leopards
Step 1: Insert Curry, Leonard and Towns. Cost: 33.57m (If anyone doesn't have one of these 3 I'm gonna need to hear a really good reason to not consider you wrong)

Step 2: Look around for bargains. I'm not listing them all here just incase others want to do this themself without any "tips". My shortlist here ended up being 16 players long with half of that list being big men, seems there's just a fair few of them I like at their price.

Step 3: Put Gobert, Lillard, McCollum, Crowder and Davis into the 10. This puts the salary at 54.5m with 8 players chosen.

3b: See the amount of cheap bigs left, decide to remove Towns. I probably want another maxish salary...

Step 4: DURANT. 20.1m. Total 69m / 8 players. Crowder is gonna have to go too :(

Final result:
Stephen Curry GSW 11,370,786
Kawhi Leonard SAS 16,500,000
Kevin Durant OKC 20,158,622
Anthony Davis NOP 7,070,730
Rudy Gobert UTA 1,175,880

Damian Lillard POR 4,236,287
C.J. McCollum POR 2,525,160
Justise Winslow MIA 2,481,720
Kelly Olynyk BOS 2,165,160
Hassan Whiteside MIA 981,348

total: 68,665,693

Kawhi is used to guarding PGs at times so no issues with him guarding 2s speedwise. Using basketball reference my top 3 have the highest winshares/48 (of players over 305 minutes) this season. Gobert probably the best defensive centre and no need for more offence if Davis/Leonard are your 4th options. Loads of rebounding in that team.

The bench I obviously didn't have loads of options once I spent that cash. Portland backcourt seems smart. Olynyk for 40% 3s at 7ft, and he's not been awful defensively this season either. Winslow to attempt to stop at least one of the other teams players, and Whiteside to break the blocks/minute record as Winslow really can't do the defence on that unit all by himself.

Steven Adams and Giannis the two closest to making the bench, SA inplace of Whiteside (salary just fits) as he's a bit of an idiot really, and SA is great. Giannis could go in for any of 2-4 if you wanted more versatility, but in each case the 3 I've picked are better at what they do well than Giannis.

edit: I suppose I've gone for a one off game / season rather than my roster if I was a GM though, I didn't consider contract lengths.
