I don't have to play Detroit in the first round, so I'll take that I guess.

Challenge accepted.

They beat us by 2 in our house, then beat us by 8 in theirs. We KNOW we can play with them. Time to see who on this roster is gonna put up or shut up.

Narrator: It turns out, they could not play with them, and everyone decided to shut the hell up.

His perimeter defense negates so many things. Unless you're a beast down low, just so hard to score.

Generally my math to a win is:

Win turnovers
equal or win on rebounds
hold opponent under 40% shooting
win steals + blocks
shoot 35% from three point land
have more free throw attempts

If we do 4 of those 6 things, odds are we win (against most teams). If we do 3 of the first 4, we probably win.

We did three of the first four. Our offense is consistently inconsistent, so I look at 3 point percentage and free throw attempts for us. If we're making threes and getting to the line, we're in a good spot.

We were never in a good spot in this game, and we are not that beast down low.

I seem to have trouble marrying a strong defense with a productive offense lately. Also Detroit is that damned good.

I must be doing my training wrong as I don't see how teams get age 19-21 players at high levels. For me the training seems to take forever and then the player is too old.

How many players are you training per week? Also, some training works a bit faster or shows more direct results whereas others like passing is more dependent on other skills.

Focused on training C and PF which ends up being 4-5 players

If you're focused on C/PF typically worthwhile to start with defense training and take that to where you want it. That creates an elastic effect that makes Inside Shot, Rebounding, and Shot Blocking train faster. Obviously you'll have to take into account the levels of the players you're training and where they are starting. If doing two position training each week for guys 18-21 or so, you should be gaining a level every 3 weeks or so, adjusting for the height advantage and age.

You can also go with Inside Scoring, since the other big focused training types will also train scoring. Allows you to get to the number you're comfortable with and allow the extra training to push them higher while building other skills.

In terms of minutes, in seasons where I think I'll be generally uncompetitive, I rotate my starters to maximize their minutes. Game one player 1/2 start with 3/4 on back up, then next game rotate. Game 3 is new guys and they play 48 minutes. This will usually get you to 48 minutes. Only concession I make is to play my better players the game I think I can win and then see where the other lands. You can also just play your guys 48 minutes each game and just rotate. That guarantees full training each week but will generally sacrifice a game a week when your training backups play.

Your staff levels also have some effect on how quickly your players train. I have two guards I’m training now, bought them at 18 and hired a youth trainer. They turned 20 this season so I got rid of the youth trainer and upgraded my trainer’s level and that seemed to work pretty well.
