As entertaining as this discussion/argument is, I really do think it should be taken out the back and shot repeatedly

lol no your right ii didnt see much point, you don't seem to wanna stick to basketball reality in this argument from what I've seen, whether that's because you just don't understand or you know your wrong and think you'll confuse people by leading it down the garden path i dunno?

By your logic if Lebron James is having an off night for the heat, its much better for the opposition if he just stops shooting at all and lets Wade who may be shooting well take more shots. Much better to have Lebron 0-8 and Wade 12-18 then have Lebron 1-17 and Wade 5-9 aye.... I know that doesn't fit with the logical theory of a whole team going 0-8 vs a whole team going 1-17 but sorry

Naker - If lawyers were held to account for the crap they pull in and out of court, and if they billed by task rather than by hour, if we didn't have ridiculous discovery procedures that take months (years in big cases).... the list could go on and on :P

Firstly, what do you mean by crap pulled in and out of court?
Secondly, by should they bill by task rather than hour when mayn other professions bill by the hour?
Thirdly, if there was a way to do the discoveries quicker I'm sure it would get done, but in reality there are just so many court cases that it is impossible to deal with each one effectively. Perhaps if people were committing less crime or were nicer to each other then the courts could deal with the number of cases :P

It used to be billions against 1 person who would claim the earth was round and not flat...majority isn't always right ;)

On a rational level, based on common sense, not the court room bullshit, you wouldn't be able to dig to the other side of the Earth. It hasn't been done before and I don't think humans have the capabilities to even travel to the Earths outer core, let alone the inner core. Its only been done in The Matrix and some beer commercials. =P

It's not a vaild argument. Team A have had 85 possessions and Team B have had 40 possessions

And you could dig to the other side of the Earth, if you imagine a big circle like O, then draw a chord through the circle that doesn't go near the center and you could dig through ;) Plus there are heaps of movies about digging through the core of the Earth so it must be true ;)

1) Lawyers are not held to account. They mislead other lawyers and the court and they're allowed to do it. Disciplinary boards are toothless and only go after small practitioners - never the larger firms, unless they REALLY screw it up. Sole practitioners and two/three man law firms, they're easy targets because they don't have clout, so occasionally they'll string one of them up, but if you're a partner in a large law firm, you can do and say pretty much whatever you want, even if it's totally misleading. And a a lawyer, you can't call the other side out on it without proof, because that's professional misconduct. So even though it's blatantly obvious to everyone what's happening, it goes on. There needs to be tighter restrictions on how lawyers act.

2) Because the system is abused. Firms reward by the highest biller, not by the skill of the lawyer. Lawyers are encouraged to bill maximum hours, which means that they falsify time sheets, spend far longer on tasks than they should - they milk everything out of it that they can. What other professions charge by time? Dentists, doctors, teachers, vets - all charge by task, not time. Accountants and lawyers are by time.... and both professions milk it :P

3) Discovery refers to the process of exchanging documents between two parties in a civil trial. What large companies do when they're against a small fry is dump thousands and thousands of documents on them, completely irrelevant crap, and mix in the important documents in with that. It then falls to the small guy's lawyers/the small guy himself to spend hundreds of hours poring over useless documents to try to find any speck of relevance. It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Discovery should not be as expensive and time-consuming as it is - courts should take more control over the process and punish parties who abuse it. And believe me, they abuse it.
