Ok, you define the concept of defending passes and thus lowering the opponents flow as team defense...fine.
Thats quite different from increasing the OD rating of a defender once he has to defend a jump shot.
But i agree, seen this way, OD does have a team defense effect.
I do not, however, see the same to be true for ID. ID does not significantly reduce flow and the reduction of foul rate is a myth in my opinion. Players with, relatively to their opponents, low ID will be seen by the game engine as sort of "weak link" and will have to defend more shots, thus commit more fouls.
Foul rate is not fouls per game but fouls per defensive action and the latter can be significantly reduced if they know how to block. To reduce "foul rate" by adding extensive ID is just silly because the game engine avoids taking shots vs this player and turns to an other match. Sure, the "foul rate" of this player will go down, on the expense of another player who will foul more.
