U21 SGP - S16 - Not your grandpa's Saudi Arabia

It used to be a quick rapid heartbeat from SGP Staffs whenever the Merlions are facing the Saudis, as they were known of their powerful Bigmans and steady old-school Playmakers. But it's no longer the trend now, as Saudi Arabia is sitting at the last place on Pool A.

Result of this coming match should not affect the SGP position on the 2nd round, which might bring the Merlions into the same pool with China, Phillipines, Irans and the red-hot Indonesian U21 team.

Ang Kok Loong will be apologized from lineup today due to unfit conditions, and SGP U21 again plan to use the 20 years old player more on this match. Fans of Peh Jian Long, Chan Long Shi and Ling Feng Kong will be happy again to see their player stay longer on the court tonight.

Early lead brought Singapore fend off Thailand 106-81

Seems it's been ages since Singapore last time facing Thailand, but they had no problem last night to close this one.

Ling Feng Kong scored 21, and Ahamat bin Ismail has 20 to power up Singapore to a bulky lead 64-35 at the end of first half. And although Prathei Thai is chasing at third, but it's too late for them to recover and enabled the Merlions to secure their first win on Tournament second rounder.

The Singapore won despite minus one of their best player & defender, Ang Kok Loong, as he was listed questionable after a very bad shape since All Star Break. But the nights are actually belong to Abdul Rauf Ishak and Lee Leong Sze, who displayed an improved ball movements on that game.

Ishak scored 10 pts and 4 assists, while Lee has 6 pts and 4 assists, contributing each other on PG position.

Panu Kamoltip led Thailand with 22 pts.

The Kangaroo - Mission Impossible 2.0?

Yes, we are talking about the Aussies, one of the Asian longtime Juggernaut.

Singapore will be meeting up the stingy U21 opponents for the first time since Iran & Taiwan battle earlier on Tournament, and their five game winning streaks are expected to halt down, as the comparison will be too much for the Merlion side on each players position especially inside presence.Expect Trinh Trinh and Eric Kennedy to tear up Singapore thin Inside Presence.

But still, the five game winning streaks weren't merely fool gold, as they're still the same troops that blew out the tournament host India, beat the bigman-crowded Hanguk, and still solid against the desperate Thailand even without their superstar Ang Kok Loong.

These Merlion stars are still unknown, as all twelve players are all now possessing those instinct to play on higher level of competition.

Singapore kept pace, but Aussies survived 78-66.

Knowing they have no chance against the Kangaroos, Singapore were thinking of playing something different. More body contacts.

The Merlions darefully switches to Inside tactic, throwing Lim Shi Xin, Chang Zhengde and Peh Jian Long to body up the famous Trinh Trinh, Darren Armstrong, Emmet Benaud and Eric Kennedy, resulted in three quarters of tight battle with Australia.

Things got much more interesting when Aussie's Darren Armstrong went down, loosen up the chance for Singapore. But Emmet Benaud still proven too strong for Singapores bigmans, as his big 4th quarter brought Australia to escape from Singapore with 78-66.

Benaud led the team with 20pts and 10reb. Ash Leava with 13pts and 5asts, repeatedly outsmart Singapore's PG in duty, Ahamat Ismail and Abdul Rauf Ishak.

Meanwhile from Singapore, Lim Shi Xin led with 14pts and 7rebs.

Singapore next battle would be New Zealand on next Monday.

Outmuscled, Outhustled, New Zealand beat Singapore 105-95

Singapore nightmare finally exposed out by New Zealand, weak interior plays.

The Lions were ready to face up the rampage of Evan Rose, but instead he was quiet at 1st half and let their speedy PG Wally Granner run the show. Granner shot 11/28 FG en route with his 25pts and 11reb, taking advantage of the Singapore unexpected loose outside defense, dominated the last three quarter to won NZ 105-95.

Wally, not known as his shot ability, really live up his chance on tonight's game. His brilliant game was really affected everyone, Collin Woodley, Gandi Farhan, all of them were showing the blue collar plays that produce first 10 pts on each 3rd and 4th quarter.

Woodley also has a monster game, scored 22pts (8-11) and 14rebs. Evan Rose with 18pts and 9rebs. Gandi Farhan has 15pts 5ast and 6rebs.

Ahamat Ismail led Singapore with 21pts, Chan Teck Yao 15pts. Ishak and Lee Leong Sze has 14 and 12.

With this loss, it's no longer possible Singapore to dream a ticket to semifinals, as the next opponent will be the great China and nemesis Iran.
