I think a lot depends upon how important getting an idea concerning a player's potential is to you.

If you are willing to just gamble on potential, you can spend 50 points every other season pretty easily (investing 10k per week nets 56 points every two seasons) and actually know all of the skills for every player. That pretty much also gives you their ages, since most 19 year-olds seem have at least one "strong" skill. So you can determine who is currently the best 19 year old and the best 18 year old. If you have to have an MVP or better to train, it is a huge gamble that the player will have the necessary potential, but if you are willing to train lower potentials, you at least know you are getting someone with strong starting skills. Personally, I'd rather draft an alll-star with 45+ TSP at 18 than an MVP with just 35. Other than the fact that the MVP could probably be sold for millions to some fool who doesn't understand that that gap doesn't even start to close until the all-star caps, and then does so slowly due to training speed having declined.

If you do want information on potential, there really isn't a way to get around having to spend 3 points per individual. I think doing something along the lines of what WFUnDina suggests makes a lot of sense in that case, since it means you aren't just randomly selecting players to scout & interview. Depending upon how many draft points you have, you could expand the number skills you look at before deciding who to scout and interview. If you invest 10k/week for drafting, every three seasons you could get all 10 skills and be able to scout & interview 11 players with 1 point left over. Skip one of the skill groups, and you could take a look at 14 players; skip two groups and you are up to 18 players.

I find the trickiest part of this approach is sticking to the investing and not spending any points many seasons. I've gone to using random.org to generate a new order for my draft list in seasons when I'm not selecting in top 5-8 so that I still feel like I'm doing something with my draft but don't waste spending the points when it won't really help me. That's helped me the past couple of seasons so this season I have points to spend. Now I just have to make myself realize that it doesn't make sense to do so when I'll be drafting 13th.

Next time i spend scouting points I'm definitely going to try your scout all skills method. (as opposed to the more traditional interview everyone way). The only risk is getting a starter potential or below, but whatever. I'm going down to D5 if possible anyway.

Almost tempted to draft blindly this season & save up for next season's draft. Or maybe just scout a handful of players and stop with the first decent result. idk, haven't decided yet.

Wow, Shawn Bowens sucks at defense. Gave up a 3 pointer only a few minutes into our game.

My PF of C with 300 DMI scored double digits oh his team defense a few weeks back too. That's even worse than when Vardis Sourpis made a shot in (NT guard) Dexter Dennison's face!

I was checking out the player you acquired. Nice salary efficient player with solid defense and IS. You making more moves?

Cost me 500k more than I sold Pagan for but nearly half the salary so I will definitely make that up in a season. I think I need one more starter.

Cantaloupes Vs. Upsyndrome in finals

I'm coming into this one with a particularly unfortunate GS update. My players got around 59 minutes or so on average after two blowout wins against Yorkville. Usually players respond better after being well rested, but not in BB I guess. Sigh.

Anyhow, it's clear who the favorites are as my roster is a lot more expensive than theirs, I'm paying more salary, and I mean, I have Bowens. But it's not all sunshine and rainbows, this one. It won't be handed to me like the last few playoff games. I don't think Bob-o is planning on tanking, is he? You never know. ;) 'Loupes snuck in a player (88K center) before the TL deadline. They have HCA and the better GS. They're well prepared. Should be a good one.

Who ya'll got? What's your wager? 5 bucks on UPS....

This was the expected finals matchup. Ups does have salary advantage and the superstars, but the Loupes have HCA. I'm rooting for the Loupes just for the Big 8's sake, but Upsyndrome's roster is insane.
