I think that the money you would get from having better results (including the carry over from this season to next season) would outweigh the marginally higher draft position you'd get by finishing two spots lower. I would aim to make the playoffs and try to steal at least one game.

Oo, If i place 3rd place, i believe i might be able to put all effort into 1 game and possible come out with a win.. if i get 4th definately not.

go for relegation, this is also better for visitor income if you try to win some away games instead of the secure home games(this is also a way of getting the loos you need for it).

Yes go for the relegation because you could play 3 games instead of one and get a higher draft pick but you will have a bad rating in the fan survey next season.

I hate the fact that 'throwing games' is even something teams consider...

If I had one BB wish it would be that this part of the current system gets fixed. BTW this is an every season discussion that will have alot of differnt opinions, none of which are 100% correct. Personally I think throwing games is ridiculous, I would sooner put my best team out there and let the cards fall where they may.

Consider this, you are in first place, you have 11 enthusiasm, and you are playing the second top team in your division and it is the last game before playoffs. If you lose this game you are still going to be in first place in your conference. Would you play TIE and "throw" the match because you know that you will be able to increase your chances in playoffs by doing this? I think the answer is a definite yes.

There are instances where throwing a match can be very beneficial for you.

Sorry if I misunderstood what you meant by "throwing" games.

Personally I don't think that is throwing the game, if it does not affect the standings it is pretty minor. Heck pro teams rest there stars very frequently in meaningless games, it is completely understood.

Throwing games to drop in the standings is brutal, too bad it is part of BB :(

I wish it was so hurtful to teams fan support that it eliminated it all together. And at the same time I understand that finishing fifth really sucks, so teams will 'throw' games to get sixth. All in all it is a topic that should be addressed as it is currently something that has way to much influence on tactics.

ah I understand what you mean now, and yes I completely agree. Personally I think this could be solved by having prize money for each position. So 1st would get x dollars, and it would get lower with each finishing spot. But this would not be linear, so finishing 5th would be similar in prize money to finishing 4th (as 4th gets extra games and extra income from playoffs) but finishing 6th would be drastically lower than finishing 5th so that people aim to finish higher up in the rankings.

I think that a good way to make people avoid throwing games to finish in 6th is a relegation tournament. So instead of measuring up the opponent in your series, all teams that finish 6th and 7th go into a tournament. Randomly drawn similar to the Cup, that way there is a real chance that you will demote. As it is right now teams can figure out who they will play and are 95% sure that finishing sixth won't get them relegated, it is a chance worht taking. Make it really risky and all of a sudden the leagues will be far more competitive.

Sorry to go off topic :)
