I thought it would be interesting to look at some of the salaries around our league. Data taken from buzzer-manager, and is for top 10 salaried players only. I wrote this post prior to our last league game.
1. Snake River Panthers - $470,243. Top team in our league by a mile, but also top salary. He's outspending the next highest salaried team by almost $100,000, and more than doubles the salary of the average team in this league. Luckily, he's making a lot of it back with his arena sales - he's in fourth in terms of average money made per home game. The three teams ahead of him had arena bonuses from being promoted last season. His top two players account for most of that salary, at $143k and $137k and are fairly young (25 and 24). The rest of his team is rather old though, with many of them only having a few seasons left of serviceable play. I imagine many of them will be replaced next season, when the team is most likely in DII.
2. Pop It - $371,918. The team with the second highest salary in the league also has the second best record. His distribution is heavily skewed for his top 5 though, which accounts for $320k/$372k salary, or 84%. Like Snake River Panthers, he makes a lot of money back with high ticket sales. His roster composition includes his star 31-year-old center, who has been trained by the team since season 40.
3. Myopic Marauders - $307,449. After two quick losses in the beginning of the season, this team acquired their starting SG with a $41k salary and has been on a tear since then. As a recent DIV promotee, he has been enjoying the third highest ticket sales. Unlike Pop It, his team's salary is very widely distributed, with only 59% of his salary going to his top 5 players.
4. GoBias Industries - $298,172. This tanking team, surprisingly has a very high salary. Last season, this team made the semifinals but it seems as if they are no longer interested in competing, at least for this season.
5. Greensboro Generals - $263,776. This first-seeded team in the Great 8, with the 4th best record in the league, sold off about $50k in salary just a few weeks ago. While they made the playoffs in DII just two seasons ago, much of the top salaried players on this team are aging. This team also happens to have one of the smaller arenas of the top competition in this league, but that has not stopped them from seeing success in DII before. With a competitive Big 8, it will be interesting to see if the Generals might make a push for a championship against a tired Snake River Panthers.
6. Roscoe Village University - $258,945. Currently 5th in the Great 8 with a 6-8 record, this team does not seem to be playing to the level that they are paying. The team is extraordinarily top heavy, with two big men accounting for $162k of their salary. The rest of the team is quiet young, and the entire team has only existed since season 45. Likely a bright future ahead.
7. Tequila Mockingbirds - $242,345. Currently 5-9 and seeded 6th in the Big 8. This team is also not necessarily playing up to their salary but much of that may be due to training a 22-year-old, $93k monster at center. They are also relatively young, existing since season 45. Will be interesting to see how long they keep that trainee as his salary spikes.
8. Allied Precise Gunmen - $229,629. This team is boring and the owner sucks. They're 12-2, largely due to luck, and quiet frankly they should quit. Also, their arena has 27k seats when there's a soft cap of 20k in place by the BBs. What is their owner thinking...At least they make the highest average money from their arena compared to all other teams.
9. In your face - $226,841. This team is 8-6, ranking fifth in the Big 8. Their salary pretty much matches up to their record. They might be the oldest team in the league, existing since season 2, and having many seasons competing in the NBBA, even making the NBBA finals several times.
That's all for now! Good luck for the rest of the
