Fishbowl East Season Four MVPs Week 7 Part One

I am going to be very careful to not lose all the comments this week.

Northcote Slammers vs. CROCKERS 111 - 71

I thought that this would be a very exciting game however I forgot that while Northcote is in promotion mode CROCKERS is firmly in the tank just trying to save money and prepare for next season while the big teams in his league battle for the championship. He is also attempting to train the greatest basketballer ever from that hotbed of hoops heaven, Mövsüm Javadov from Azərbaycan. While Javadov didn't dominate this game the ever reliable Rod McPhail did stop this from turning into a complete rout.

3 Pier Giorgio Masetti Northcote Slammers 27 PTS 11 REB 10/16 FGS 12.5 rating. Was efficient and the equal best rated player in the game he did it all and even chipped in a few assists and steals.

2 Malcom Doherty Northcote Slammers 29 PTS 7 AST. While he did pad his stats a bit playing almost the whole game in a 40 point blowout no doubt he was way too much for CROCKERS SG Oketopa to handle who went 0/5 for the game.

1 Rod McPhail CROCKERS 42 PTS. I may be risking giving C-Cat some work already on my first game giving points to the losing team in this slaughter but 42 points which was more than half of the team's total is impressive when the rest of the team was barely worth guarding.

Chumunga vs. Slam ! 124 - 96

Two more tanking teams (seems to be a trend, maybe I should jump onboard). But while Chumunga had a thin but adequate team Slam had $4,000 guys playing 47 minutes, so the prize for being the most tanky goes to Slam ! Meanwhile if you are interested in slightly used but still effective players Chumunga has almost his entire team for sale now and with Abrams Peldinš getting an early bid we wont be seeing him again.

3 Boris Kužel Chumunga 33 PTS 12 REB 15.0 rating. A brilliant performance by the big guy who can be yours for a whopping $2,000,000 (but if you have that much instead you would buy Bassarab who is much, much better and only $200,000 more).

2 Taras Bessarab Chumunga 24 PTS 21 REB. 15.0 rating. And here he is, Mr Triple-Prodigious himself. I think the strong OD and JS as well is what turns Taras into an elete performer week after week. Being sold way above the TPE but this is one skillset that may be worth this massive pricetag. If I had $2,200,000 I would be very tempted. I also liked the way he constantly got himself to the freethrow line and despite only average FT skill knocked down 10/11.

1 Selçuk Sultan Chumunga 28 PTS 10 REB 4 AST. I know this is a bit tough on Meelis Klaar who did play well but the big three of Chumunga did all really shine and it would be very tough on the Sultana to leave him out. Probably Likan Gjata would like a mention too for teriffic stats in limited minutes but I am worried about his +/- of 0 when the next worst on the entire team was +26. When Likan was on things went wrong.

Fishbowl East Season Four MVPs Week 7 Part Two

Tremell despite me being so, so, so careful not to lose everything my stupid mouse nearly did when 6 times I tried to copy that last section and it failed and eventially instead of copying it sent me to the NT matches schedule before the report had been submitted.

Melbourne Goldfish vs. SASTROOPERS 73 - 88

The game of the roung pitting two of the top three teams against each other should have been something special, instead it was a pitiful mismatch with the Smeltztroopers geting all the tactics and matchups right and the Xiefish getting them all wrong. One thing both teams did the same was both flogged their star player for 48 minutes so no matter how garbagy the game became Smeltz and Xie were both out there padding their stats. In the end Smeltz and Xie had 32 and 33 points (the next best was 12) and ratings of 15.5 and 14.0 (also the best two in the match). So in this two man game who was the best?

3 Ky Smeltz SASTROOPERS 32 PTS 21 REB 15/33 FGS 15.5 rating. I don't know why he threw up 4 3-pointers (all ugly misses) but there was no doubt that Smeltz stamped all over the weak little fishies in this one like the Shark he is. Perhaps this win over MVP rival will give him the trophy for the 4th time in 4 seasons. I'm sure all his fans including his biggest fan, Pte_Nguyen will be cheering him if he does.

2 Xie Guanzheng Melbourne Goldfish 33 PTS 13 REB 12/24 FGS 7/10 3-PTRS 14.0 rating. Yes he scored more than Smeltz, shot better and had an amazing rebound haul for a guard, but a lot of this was done in garbage time when the game was over, in the first half he was nowhere to be seen. If this second half production had brought the team to victory I would call him Dirk, instead I call him Iversson.

Actually hard to find someone worthy of one vote, a PG who got 3 assists, a SG who shot 1/7...

1 Margus Saar SASTROOPERS 11 PTS 11 REB. Far from the top two but he made a contribution.

JW City Bulls vs. Da Fat Boy Slim 85 - 98

Despite being "too tense and serious" this season and really messing up the tactics in this game Datzilla still had a much better team on the night and was able to ride Ralph Rendon (like the alliteration?) to victory. Very unusual to see Duffman and Bikin be so outplayed by a member of their own team, this should really be a good sign for the Slims.

3 Ralph Rendon Da Fat Boy Slim 47 PTS 10 AST 5 REB 13.5 rating. It was a battle of SGs in this game and Rendon humiliated Joel Vulcan outscoring him by a ton as Vulcan couldn't hit a shot (5/18) and eventually fouled out in frustration after just 36 minutes.

2 Jörn Bikin Da Fat Boy Slim What a sad day, this long time team stalwart is for sale and is heading to Japan. Amazing to see what low skills he has, triple sensational, none of my bigs are that low and yet he was consistently impressive, maybe it was having the big Duffman at his side that made the diference. He has years of good play left in him and I wish him well. I would love to know why he is being sold, he looks like an awesome backup C to me.

1 Yam Ben-Gigi JW City Bulls 7/8 FGS 15 PTS in 8 minutes. I normally don't like to give points to bit players but on a night where the rest of the team combined for 29/83 FGS he was 7/8. Also for sale at a very cheap price the prolific defender will also soon be playing somewhere else.

Is there a stock market crash coming? Is there something I don't know? CROCKERS, Chumunga, Slam !, Da Fat Boy Slim and JW City Bulls are all selling (sold) off their teams. Should I press the panic button now?

Fishbowl East Season Four MVPs Week 7 Part Two

Beasts Red vs. Cowboys From Hell 65 - 96

It was a battle of the top of the ladder against the bottom and even a 30-19 comeback in garbage time for the Beasts couldn't make this one look respectable. The Cowboys defence ratings were much lower than usual perhaps beacuse the subs played so many minutes. They stayed with their trusty neutral offence and neutral defence and as usual it delivered.

3 Feyzullah Perçin Cowboys From Hell 28 PTs 10 REB 4 AST 4 STE 13.5 rating. Shades of another Smeltz/Xie stat padding but the numbers don't lie, in this blowout he was by far the most prolific and the all around contribution was impressive.

2 Camillo Marchesoli Cowboys From Hell 14 PTS 13 REB. Shot a little better than Peixet but rebounded less. You tell me who was better. He was slightly more impressive in the first half when the game was still a contest with 12 of his rebounds by the big break.

1 Daniel Peixet Cowboys From Hell 11 PTs 15 REB 15.0 rating. Honestly a coin toss between him and Camillo Marchesoli as they both annihilated JWs inside isolation attack. Tambyraja tried hard for the beasts but 5/15 shooting wont cut it.

Rampaging Marmots vs. Chelsea Seagulls 82 - 94

Normally I would be an expert on my own game but I confess to being busy yesterday and missing it. It was a game of quarters with Chelsea taking two by 6 and 13, the Marmots surging back in the second by 8 and the last being very even. RabidCamel used a Naker-like 6 players for the match and perhaps they had run out of puff by the end. The Marmots had their tactics right with the Seagulls best big being out injured, and when Cyril the next best inside defender fouled out they should have been able to take advantage but perhaps they were simply exhausted trying to keep up with the run and gun without a sub by then.

3 Vallo Tammela Chelsea Seagulls 23 PTS 5 REb 4 AST. After not being much appreciated recently Vallo a season 10 long time Seagull was doing everything right in this game including keeping the Marmots more well known Ireland NT player Barry Ó Daire to just 9 points in 48 minutes.

2 Dan Gardner Rampaging Marmots 30 PTS 18 REB. There was no stopping the big Yank this match as he rampaged the paint against the Seagulls injured, old, fouling men. 8/10 free throws showed that his aggression inside the paint paid off.

1 Mu Hongyun Chelsea Seagulls 16 PTS 6/9 FGS in 17 minutes. Future U21 hopeful Mu put up big numbers in a little time and scored his forst MVP points ever. Chelsea hopes that it will not be his last as this rapidly improving 20 year old will hopefully be a wondrous jump shooter this time next week.

Z Mchich Slam ! 1
M Klaar Slam ! 1

So it seems the clear leader at the 7/11th part of the season is none other than 3 time leavge MVP Ky Smeltz with a very strong lead already. Way back in second is long time rival Xie Guanzheng and trailing him is the new and less known but highly effective Pier Giorgio Masetti. Funny I look at Pier and assume he is not being trained anymore and then I remember that Xie is 30 and still geting trained. The last three guys that have a chance to still make it are Daniel Peixet form the amazing Cowboys, Xie's best friend Kye Duffill and R Rendon also from Da Fat Boy Slim.

There is still 3 months free supporter for one lucky coach of one of the top 10 MVP players and there are a bunch of guys still in there with a chance (go Rober!) so keep posted BuzzerBeater fans.

Another week in the Fishbowl East, another round of MVP's to congratulate...

Chumunga vs. CROCKERS 55 - 81 (35545823)

A lot of pride was at stake between these 2 guppie "tankers". In what is the ultimate grudge match for me personally and possibly the same for bevers, these 2 rebuilding squads had a test of who has the best youngsters....And the result was pretty emphatic with a old fella named Mcphail abusing chumunga along the way.

3. R. McPhail (Crockers) - McFail as i like to call him abused my youngsters. Seriously abused them bad! He had 45 points on 18-40, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in a abusing display. Did i mention he abused my players??

2. M. Javadov (Crockers) - Javadov played the Scotty Pippen role perfectly for Crockers hitting 17 points whilst collecting 3 reb and 3 blks at SG.

1. D. Stulpinš (Crockers) - Stulpins had a special game matched up against Sultan at C, Chumunga's only real player of note. Although stulpins only had 4 points he had a game high 25 boards to stop any 2nd chances from Chumunga which was important.

JW City Bulls vs. Melbourne Goldfish 102 - 88 (35545820)

In what was an upset of sorts JW a bottom feeder so far this PL season put fishy out of the finals race you would think...JW showed he is a real force inside offensively taking fishys bigmen all over the place with a prolific low rating. If only he was in this form earlier in the league season he really could have been a contender.....

3. L. Wai Yuen (JW City Bulls) - Wai Yuen was the player of the match dominating at the C position and giving fishy headaches all game. He finished with 25 points, 11 reb, 2 assists and 2 blocks. Not a bad day at the office.

2. Ð. Cvoro (JW City Bulls) - Cvoro played a crucial allround game for JW hitting 20 points, 16 reb, 2 assists and 2 blks. He also shot 10-14 free throws which was reasonably impressive.

1. X. Guanzheng (Melb Goldfish) - Xie just scraped through for the 1 vote this game with his team high 24 points. Crucially he was all over the court filling up the other stats baskets as well which got him the vote...He had 6 reb, 3 assists, 3 steals and 4 blocks from the SG position.

Chelsea Seagulls vs. Slam ! 108 - 91 (35545825)

The Chelsea Seagulls kept their very very feint hopes of finals action alive in this game with a tough fought win over cellar dwellar Slam. Slam tactically kept this game close loading up on his perimeter D which hampered Chelsea to truly blow this one apart.

3. V. Tammela (Chelsea Seagulls) - Tammella was a star for Chelsea on the day hitting not only 29 points but crucially for his team and the MVP voting getting his hands on 6 steals. He also contributed 4 assists to the cause to help take top dog status in this game.

2. A. Ascariz (Slam) - In a surprise move Ascariz stole the 2 votes away from Chelsea in this game. I just couldnt overlook his stat line in this game and he was a crucial reason Slam stayed competitive. He had 32 points on 15-22, 22 rebounds and 7 assists from the C spot. What a performance.

1. O. Ðuričko (Chelsea Seagulls) - Duricko can consider himself the unlucky man that was held out of the 2 votes. He amassed 27 points, 3 reb and 2 assists. All very worthy vote getters from this game.

Northcote Slammers vs. SASTROOPERS 76 - 106 (35545821)

In this game we had the top of the table Sastroopers facing a finals challenger and surprise packet of the PL so far the Northcote Slammers.....However after this result you would have to say the Slammers grand final aspirations are in tatters dominated for the full 48 mins and unable to stop the smeltz train.

3. K. Smeltz (Sastroopers) - How does this guy do it every week?? Is he good or does he just have no support?? Well looking at the ratings of Sastroopers from this game he has more then enough support and is the head of this Sastroopers snake! Smeltz had 24 points, 17 reb, 2 assists a steal and a block.

2. R. Kožlej (Sastroopers) - Robert as his teammates call him (they cant pronounce his surname) was a great supporting act to Smeltz in this game. He had 18 points, 8 assists and 3 reb from the SG position.

1. A. Konfeldas (Sastroopers) - As gutsy as the Slammers were in this game with some solid individual performances, Sastroopers PG Konfeldas deserves the 1 vote after only playing 29min in this blowout. He had 17 points on 8-10, 6 assists and 2 steals.

Beasts Red vs. Da Fat Boy Slim 46 - 63 (35545822)

The biggest challenger outside looking in for the grand final, DFBS, had a nice leisurely low scoring stroll in the park vs bottom placed Beasts. 109 points total scored for the game? The crowd was said to have fell asleep very early in this one.

3. R. Rendon (DFBS) - Rendon pops up again for some more PL votes in this game. He was clearly the best amassing 32 points (over half his teams score) on a good clip of 13-17 attempts.

2. H. Hawthorn (DFBS) - The Hawk had a double double. 10 points, 10 reb, 2 assists, 3 steals and 5 blks.

1. D. Hanping (Beasts) - Hanping snuck in for a rare vote for beasts posting a double double vs the highly rated DFBS. He had 11 points, 12 reb, 1 steal and 2 blks.

Rampaging Marmots vs. Cowboys From Hell 85 - 96 (35545824)

In what was a hell of a game (pardon the pun) the Cowboys from Hell showed why they are squarely in the box seat for a gf appearance beating the Marmots. The Marmots did the guppies proud tho showing they are better then their ladder position atm.

3. D. Peixet (CFH) - Peixet struck gold over his opponents and his higher scoring teammates for the 3 votes this week. He had a massive double double hitting 18 points, 20 reb, 2 steals and a blk in this game.

2. D. Gardner (Marmots) - Gardner was the most deserving of votes from the Marmots in this game. 28 points, 19 reb, 3 assists and 1 blk showed he is one hell of a player (pardon the pun again)

1. A. Villain (CFH) - Top scorer for the CFH, Villain had a team high 28 points, 3 reb, 3 assists, 2 steals and a block from SG. This was a high quality game from both sides and definetly the match of the round from the East.

East MVP's Week 9

Melbourne Goldfish vs. Northcote Slammers 99 - 85 (35545826)

This game was some what of an elimination final of sorts with both teams coming into this game on 5-3 with aspirations of somehow slotting into the top 2. In what was a fantastic match it was fishys boys who prevailed after a slow start (lost the first q 25-11!). So the Goldfish have a very weak pulse and northcote will play 2 more games and then go fishin'.

3. R. Rymer (Melb Goldfish) - Rymer unfortunately stole votes off MVP candidate Xie with his performance. In his 35min of court time he shot 11-18 for 24 points, had 11 boards (huge as he was PG), 2 assists, 3 steals and a block! In really good allround performance that would have been even better with more minutes.

1. X. Guanzheng (Melb Goldfish) - Xie slots in with 2 vote from this game. He shot 12-29 for his 29 points, whilst dishing 5 assist, 3 steals and a block.

1. D. Polglase (Northcote) - Polglase the perrenial vote getter was Northcotes best in a heartbreaking loss for the slammers. He shot 8-11 for his 18 points whilst dragging in 13 reb.

Chelsea Seagulls vs. CROCKERS 100 - 75 (35545830)

This round 9 matchup threw up an outside finals contender versus an early leader of the PL this season who is now rebuilding. No surprises in this one with yoda taking the cake easily.

3. C. Landrin (Chelsea Seagulls) - Landrin abused crockers crappy PF flinders to the tune of 27 points and 13 rebounds in this game. He also sent 2 blocks heading into the stands which hit a small child on one such occasion.

2. G. Larbi (Chelsea Seagulls) - Larbi was Landrin's backup at PF and also took advantage of his courttime to remind flinders that he is now playing against the big boys. In 13min of courttime Larbi shot 7-9 for 18 points. He also had 4 rebounds and 2 steal.

1. D. Štiberc (Chelsea Seagulls) - And to continue the theme that Chelsea dominated crockers bigs, Stiberc collects the 1 vote. Playing the C position he shot 5-8 for his 11 points. He also had 8 reb, 4 assists and 5 blocks (of which knocked over 4 drinks). This was a dangerous game to be in the crowd at!

Beasts Red vs. JW City Bulls 81 - 98 (35545827)

Match 3 of the round saw the Beasts face another cellar dwellar but recently improved JW. This match was blown out early with a late 4th q rally from beasts making it a closer scoreboard! It looks as if Beasts ratings have improved though so hopefully a win will be around the corner soon in this PL.

3. Ð. Cvoro (JW City Bulls) - Cvoro was a star at PF for the Bulls amassing a sweet double double of 23 points and 18 rebounds. He also had is own block party of sorts swatting away 5 rubbish shots into the crowd.

2. J. Sudzinski (Beasts Red) - Jacek was the best performer from the losers with a 15-34 shooting game for 34 points. He also had 2 reb, 2 assists and a block from SG.

1. J. Kent (JW City Bulls) - The kentmeister put in a nice clean performance at PG for the Bulls, He had 15 points, 5 reb and 6 assists for quite a nice game. He did however play 48min which cost him 2 votes on this occasion

Chumunga vs. SASTROOPERS 57 - 124 (35545828)

Not much to say about this game other then Smeltz was Smeltz, Chumunga played like the rebuilding team they are and the Sastrooper are looking very much headed for the PL East finals...

3. A. Konfeldas (Sastroopers) - Konfeldas was oh so close to a rare PG trip dub. Finished with 24 points, 16 assists, 9 reb a steal and 2 blocks! Amazing!

2. K. Smeltz (Sastroopers) - Hes done it again despite my best efforts of playing my best bigman on him. Finished with 28 points, 19 reb, 4 assists, 4 blks and a steal. Usually this would be 3 votes but the PG did him in.

1. R. Bustos (Sastroopers) - Busty Bustos had a very solid game for the troopers posting 23 points, 19 reb and 4 blocks.

Rampaging Marmots vs. Da Fat Boy Slim 54 - 69 (35545829)

In true DFBS fashion this game was an defensive scrap with the marmots only managing 54 points for the entire game! DFBS continues to be the team outside the top 2 looking in and most likely to make the finals if either of the current 2 drop out.

3. K. Duffill (DFBS) - Duffman for 3 votes! Boom! Duffman was the best player on the court hitting 5-10 shots for 14 points and collecting 18 rebounds to limit the MArmots 2nd chances.

2. R. Rendon (DFBS) - Slipped down to the 2 votes because of a bad shooting night, Rendon still had a very all round game hitting 24 points whilst distributing 7 assists and picking up 4 rebs.

1. T. Rice (Marmots) - And lastly 1 vote for Vanilla Rice Rice baby- T. Rice. Rice had 20 points, 14 rebs, 2 steals and 2 blocks for the game to be the best for the struggling marmots.

Slam ! vs. Cowboys From Hell 72 - 95 (35545831)

And the last matchup for matchday 9 was the struggling and rebuilding Slam versus the 2nd placed Cowboys. This game went pretty much to script with the cowboys dominating and taking the points to keep themselves in a finals position.

3. D. Peixet (Cowboys) - Peixet is becoming a regular for votes and once again earnt it with a BOG performance. He had 28 points, 11 rebounds and 5 swats to control this game.

2. F. Perçin (Cowboys) - Percin was another nearly pulling a big trip dub this week. He did play a full 48min in this game but had a great stat line of 21 points, 7 rebs and 9 assists to be a shining light.

1. F. Banks (Cowboys) - Banksy was another that filled the stat lines in this game and possibly with more minutes could have replicated his teammate with the 2 votes. Banks had 18 points, 4 rebs and 6 assists.

Well with two weeks to go it looks like he has done it again. The big man from the soon to be renamed SMELTZTROOPERS has an unbeatable lead in the East. I am not sure if this makes him also the overall leader in the entire Fishbowl, Grgur Fatur may still be able to pass him, but in the East Xie, Pixiet and Rendon can just look up at him and wonder about what might have been. There is still a prize up for grabs for some lucky coach of a top 10 MVP in the Fishbowl so the last two weks are important but the trophy has a familiar home. After his dominating performance in both his division II and the Fishbowl East this season, perhaps he will be heading to the West before too long.

Fishbowl East Season Four MVPs Week 10 Part One

Chumunga vs. Northcote Slammers 72 - 105

At first glance this could be the first simptom of the new Guppy Virus but in fact Chumunga has sold off his entire team bar Sultan and is just tanking his way into 5th place. Really this should have been a slaughter but Sultan's rebounding and Genadiy Symonchuk's scoring kept some of the fans in their seats for the second half.

3 Pier Giorgio Masetti Northcote Slammers 19 PTS 15 REB 8/14 FGS 13.0 rating. Not only was he the Slammers top rebounder, second top defender and third top scorer, he did it against the only real player on the opposition in Sultan.

2 Demarcus Polglase Northcote Slammers 20 PTS 7 REB 9/16 FGS 13.5 rating. Very efficient and did it all in just 25 minutes.

1 Georgy Trifonov Northcote Slammers 24 PTS 5 AST. This 23 year old MVP is probably going to get even better and just needs a more accurate shot.

Apologies to Sultan and Symonchuk but I just couldn't put either of you guys above these three slammers.

Cowboys From Hell vs. CROCKERS 131 - 65

Another Guppy another thrown match. He couldn't even find $1,000 for a 5th player. "It looked like only one team was trying out there".

3 Daniel Peixet Cowboys From Hell 21 PTS 22 REB 10/14 FGS 14.0 rating. Dominated the glass and scored at will.

2 Antoine Villain Cowboys From Hell 26 PTS 6 AST 5/7 3PTRS. 26 points in 28 inutes, not too shabby.

1 Rod McPhail CROCKERS 31 PTS. About the only CROCKER who showed any interest in the match resulted in him having the game high score and an impressive 6/12 3 PTRS. 0 fouls in 48 minutes hows either his skillful defence of the fact that CROCKERS didn't even try to stop the Cowboys.

Beasts Red vs. Melbourne Goldfish 76 - 94

The Beasts have one of the best young Aussie Guards in U21 team member Neil Tambyraja, but the Goldfish have the oldest Aussie Guard in the world still getting regular training and pops in veteran Xie Guanzheng and this was a night for the verteran. Quite a contrast between the Goldfish starting guards 16/37 for 41 points and the backups 1/13 for 2 points. The big catch up in the 4th garbage time made this game look a bit more respectable.

3 Xie Guanzheng Melbourne Goldfish 28 PTS 5 REB 14.0 rating. Xie loves to shoot but in recent times he has added some defence to his arsenal making him the real deal. Strangely he spent more time looking at the box scores of the SASTROOPERS match to see if he could pass SMELTZ in the MVP standings than he did looking at his own.

2 Arcangelo Di Nunno Melbourne Goldfish 20 PTS 20 REB. A rare double double double nearly stole the 3 votes from teammate XIe but he needs to be a little more efficient with his shooting.

1 Jacek Sudzinski Beasts Red 22 PTS 7 REB 4 AST. The Beasts other young trainee showed he is no slouch hitting a team high score and rebounding well.
