Tomorrow Baruti Dingane will enter Free Agency.

(12249232)

He is a superstar, so well trained he could be of interest to NT. To U21, he would have just part of this season and I don't expect so.

Not a good day.

SA started its consolation tournament. The first African team will host next season Africa's cup. This is our goal.

Our opponent was Sakartvelo, a definitely strange match against an opponent who simply did not play first two matches against poor teams - as Maghrib did last season. So, the only information we had were about their roster (many guards, not good in PF/C roles) and TS estimation.

I bet that Sakartvelo would have not played the match with full forces, using a lower attitude to not compromise next matches, also considering the first home field advantage in my mandate. I lost. First (and far bigger) mistake of the day.

I decided to enforce board presence, and use a powerful Look Inside with Mtolo as SF, recalling a well trained Issa as rotation instead of Barnard. There were not many options, as our guards were not in great shape. Kadzamira will be out of the roster for a while at least, and is still 6, Adam had 62' and decreased shape to 6

Mtolo+Issa were expected to give us RB superiority, while I decided not to adopt 32 zone to avoid having a weak spot under attack for the whole game. May be second mistake, but about it I am still convinced that it was not a so bad choice. In fact Pochkua (SF) won the match alone, but otherwise we could have had the two guards with similar percentages, as their passing was not so bad.

The third, true, net mistake was about SG rotation, where Adam should have been replaced by Mbangwa. Unfortunately my first option was to have Mbangwa in SF spot, and after many changes I forgot to set him in the right spot. Apologies, although it would have changed nothing - to me.

I am too sad and angry to tell you match history. Sakartvelo 3-2 zone put a lot of pressure on our Guards. In Q1, Rabutla gave us first advantage with two shots (12-9), then Pochtkua started a lethal showtime (15/21, 45 points, nothing to comment). Since end of Q1, Sakartvelo took the leadership, well sustained by SF great day. Our guys never left the game, even when Sakartvelo scored a +15 maximum advantage. Schartner and Wagana boosted SA comeback from 95-83 to 99-95. At 101-97 we started systematic foul, with no chance to recover.

Juggie Wagana, although not at his top, was our MVP. Schartner is now much more than a simple project of PG, Rabutla had a good day. Kolane played below expectations, and Mtolo was sufficient in attack, horrible in defense.

Team statistics showed a good SA. It's good, it's far better than one season ago (where this defensive behaviour was just a dream), but it's not enough.

Our record is now a poor 0-3.

Tonight, Al Jazair (1-1) will host Puerto Rico in a not trivial match. Tounes lost 90-112 at Singapore and is now 0-3. Ghana (0-2) will have no chance in Uruguay. Senegal was defeated 123-90 at home against Nippon and is 0-3. Maghrib took a hard hit by Russia at home (93-159!) and is 0-3. Let's see so what Al Jazair will do, and go back on track.

Al Jazair won 113-91 against Peru at home, and is now 2-1.

We need a tough comeback to recover.

Having to start 0-2 is tough but it is what is has to be if you want to have a chance at World Championships. Tough loss today but I believe you can fight back.

after two times Ihave rewritten this message, I think that being very short is needed tonight!

SA got his first victory in this consolation tournament, the second of the history. Hayastan confirmed to be not much consistent, although its coach changed a typical 2-3 zone to 3-2 to stop our attack. Despite field disadvantage, Schartner out for two weeks, and finally even our second PG Resha injured during the game, we got our W with a superior performance under all perspectives. We had a bad start (2-10) and some problem at the end of Q2 (1-11 partial), but we were able to recover, under leadership of MVP Kolane and a team good performance. I am very happy for having recalled well known Sifiye Neimand, now well trained, and definitely our third PG: without him, we would have had nobody in PG spot! It was Neimand to score 3 after 2.29 in Q3, bringing us ahead till the end.

All others African teams lost today. Only Al Jazair should play tonight after midnight (they are leading African pack).

Next week I will probably add a very short post. We cannot compete against Poland, ranked 13 in the world. Well, Italy today lost 25-0 against Misr (reasons are under investigation!): if Polish coach will like to give us a chance ...

it looks like impossible to write this post with a wireless connection

let me be very short!

- we won against Hayastan, low ranked and with a weak roster, 116-90. Kolane our MVP
- we did it despite field disadvantage, Schartner injury and even Resha injured as well!
- not by hazard, but to prevent this kind of situation, I (re)called Sifiye Neimand, well trained this season, definitely our third PG among all available players
- we better performed under all perspectives against fouly Hayastan (23 fouls!)
- we got the first victory of this consolation tournament, the second in SA history
- all other African teams lost, but Al Jazair that will face Venezuela later tonight

Next week we will face Poland: no chance there, unless they will commit suicide as Italy today against Misr!!!

Hard hit against Poland. As expected.

We were facing one of top teams (13th in world ranking), away, so no chance to even tickle them. Although we had good shape (finally!) and some reasonable pops, we were still missing one of our Trio, Jorg Schartner, to be recovered also in shape (of course, destroyed to 6 in just 10 days... ).

Poland was simply too strong for us. Although our defense played decently, allowing 88 points, we scored just 41 against Polish wall.

It is, but again expected, the worst loss in this mandate. As being so bad, no MVP will be declared this week. It would not be the Most Valuable, but ... the Less Horrible (it would probably be Juggie Wagana).

With Al Jazair losing again vs India, the race to home field advantage is still open. All African teams lost this week, leaving only Al Jazair (2W) and South Africa (1W) with no zero's in victory spot.

After the obvious large loss against Poland (88-41), now it's time of a large won against Republica Dominicana (103-42).

I decided to play with almost all normal starters. This is because I wanted to recover scoring gap hoping that will be relevant in head-to-head race against Al Jazair. I apologize with all managers of non-starters for not having used them at the beginning of the match - I understand how it could be relevant when spending time and efforts to train a talent! - but I am sure you will understand.

Too obvious the match to name our MVP. 36-9 in Q1 with a devastating opening 11-0, 15 points scored by our opponents along all first half: no match at all. Let me just highlight the good performance of Neimand, Mbangwa, Mtolo among the others.

Al Jazair faced at home Hayastan, winning by 50 against a team we defeated away. Ghana won against Bolivia (third win in a row!), Tounes against Luxembourg, while senegal was defeated in Vietnam and Maghrib was defeated at home against Malaysia (before this match Maghrib was 85th on 86 teams!!!).

Surprising Ghana is now second in Africa-only classement, same record of Al Jazair (3-3), we are third (2-4), with Tounes, Maghrib and Senegal mathematically excluded from the race (0-6).

Ghana has probably better chances, having to pay visit to Senegal next week and host Ecuador after. Al Jazair will host tough Osterreich and will pay visit to solid Norge. We will have a tough match in Island next week before facing Puerto Rico at home, closing tournament. I am very impressed by Ghana, leveraging each single opportunity offered by favourable scheduling, as already done to enter final-four in last African cup: my congratulation to their staff... but race is still open.

Congrats. Do you think you have a good chance of being the last African team?
