In Div 5/4 I went with a 12 man roster normally with like 10 decent players.
Then in Div 3 that number fell some as my trainees got more talented.
Now in Div 2 I've been working with 7-8 which is pretty good except for injuries which do tend to mess it up quite a bit.

I will admit that 4-5 good starters and 3-4 good backups is probably the most I will keep going forward. Plus 1 trainee and a couple scrubs.

Optimal "good" players I would think is 7-9 depending on if you are going for a title (at this level probably 15K salary and above for backups).

One thing is to consider how much a starter costs. If you were to buy a 150K salary starter. Would that player offer more than say 100K starter + 50K backup? Food for thought.

The market finally opened up for me on the types of players I wanted.

I was lucky to buy one of them. My buddy RamQ who I played last week in the cup wanted (16433713) Mario Eler. Luckily, he let me take him. The other guy I bought I wanted a few weeks back and he got injured--so the owner put him up. He won't be usable until close to the end of the season.

I will be once again be attempting to sell (13194955)Jason Koenig, which will take me below 500K at some point. Almost rid of all the old farts. Besides, he doesn't foul nearly enough for my liking. At 0.9/game he's dragging down my league leading average of 18.3 fouls/game.
