I agree with you. I was just saying their analysis about the necessity of playing normal was proven right by the tight score.
But yes there are other methods and I'm not sure this was the right one, but I can understand the decision of BusterKeaton.
When I was NT coach I always respected the mTIE agreements when they were fair. I'm not part of the NT staff so I don't know if it was the case here
Edit : Also, waiting to have a big game shape advantage to offer a mTIE agreement could be seen as another example of screwing your opponent
