Rampaging Marmots vs. TEAM LORDY 91 - 77 (36141625)

This was an interesting matchup with both div 2 sides playing motion and m2m defense. The question was could Clune tame the rampaging beast Underwood? This looked to be the case through the first 3 quarters where the margin grew beyond TEAM LORDY's reach. They won the quarters by 8, 7 and 9 to take a commanding hold on the match, with only a consolation last quarter narrowing the margin to a seemingly generous 14 points.

3 votes - Rampaging Marmots - Barry Ó Daire - 31 points 5 rebounds 7 assists

Barry was a clear best player on the court shooting 50% from the field and from downtown, with 7-14 shooting from long. Combine that with the 7 assists he threw and Barry had a great night

2 votes - Rampaging Marmots - Sam Clune - 27 points 4 rebounds

from here on in its get extremely tight and the votes could go one of three ways. But Clune gets the 2 for not only his 27 points but also his fantastic defensive effort on the MVP leader Ross Underwood, keeping the Brit to only 4-20 shooting and 0-5 from long range.

1 vote - TEAM LORDY - Valentyn Tsurkan - 23 points 6 assists 6 rebounds

Now it was extremely tight between Tsurkan and Gardner for the 1 vote with the 5 less turnovers than Gardner swaying the decision Tsurkan's way. But hey in most games 23,6 and 6 is worthy of a 2 at least. He will just have to keep plugging away.

All-Sorts vs. Mad Rangas 107 - 82 (36141627)

The All-Sorts were looking to some things right after having already dropped a game, and with the Rangas being forced to play Inside, G-Wall was never going to have enough firepower to overwhelm the entire All-Sorts team. All that is needed to be known about this game was that All-Sorts won every quarter on route to a comfortable 25 point win with only Gab Wall causing any problems to the defence.

3 votes - All-Sorts - Mamerto Méndez - 19 points 4 rebounds 7 assists

Mendez shot worse than his teammate Pizzolato however worked his way to the line for 14 attempts of which he made 7. With 7 assists also to his name he grabs a handy 3 votes.

2 votes - Mad Rangas - Gabriel Wall - 34 points 13 rebounds 4 assists 2 steals 2 blocks

The Great Wall was really the only shining light for the Rangas with his output being absolutely vital to his teams performance. A thing to note is that this boy can shoot free throws with 8-8 in this one.

1 vote - All-Sorts - Edo Volavc - 17 points 6 rebounds 3 blocks

This old man i expected to see running around with Naker's boys. However for his team tonight he shot an extremely nice 8-11 in only 23 minutes. The limited minutes may be a result of fatigue... it aint easy running around at 35.

Underwood despite being well held and kept out of the votes still holds a narrow lead over Mendez and Clune who appear to be making moves, although i believe Clune was sold. O'Daire, Halliday and Sudzinski are also staking claims to the title with solid polling in the last round.

Fishbowl South MVPs Week Five Part One

Hi everyone I am just filling in for a week and really don't know most of the teams in this league very well so forgive me if I don't do as well as Bainsy.

TEAM LORDY vs. Yarra Park Bears 133 - 122

Some people had already engraved YPB on the trophy so it must have come as a bit of a shock to see struggling TEAM LORDY upset the superpower. I can't give away his secrets but just know that LORDY is slowly building something that may end up being very special. For a half built team this was a very special effort especially having to take on the highly efficient Kazimierz Reda. LORDY also took a leaf out of Naker's book and played just 5 guys the full 48+ but they must have great stamina because they actually came back after trailing early in the game. In the end this game was really aout one man.

3 Ross Underwood TEAM LORDY 60 PTS! Wow and I have a funny feeling he will score even more next week. This incredible outburst was despite his is of Naker age and playing Naker minutes. LORDY needs to find a fountain of youth and get this guy a couple more seasons.

2 Ignacio Carlos Napolitano Yarra Park Bears 26 PTS 9 REB. It is funny to see team's best players up for sale week after week but here is another example. A great player just don't expect a lot of assists he has managed 1 with his atrocious passing for the entire season.

1 Orest Wsól TEAM LORDY 19 PTS 20 REB 13.5 rating. This last vote was very close between Turkan, Gomez, Granger, Reda and Wsol, but in the end I went with Wsol (who should also be playing for Naker) for being just 1 off a double double double, having the second best match rating in the game and shooting a very efficient 8/11.

All-Sorts vs. Rampaging Marmots 82 - 54

My longtime buddy RabidCamel has sold most of his team and now it is just a two man team with O'Daire and Gardiner trying to stop all sorts of opponents! All Sorts were way too deep having a deep roster and lots of their bench players outperformed the Marmot's other three starters. The coach needs to take away the shooting licence from everyone else because outside the two stars the Marmots shot a combined 6/40!

3 Mohd Syamsuri bin Mat Noor All-Sorts 12 PTS 18 REB. Long on name long on effort. M.S.B.M.N. was tireless on the boards and wore the connentators out, lucky he was the most effecient scorer in the match and there werent too many misses to call.

2 Romuald Palierne All-Sorts 19 PTS 12 REB. The top scorer for All-Sorts but he will at least have to pretend to play defence to be the MVP.

1 Dan Gardner Rampaging Marmots 17 PTS 21 REB. Dan put in a solid effort to keep his team in the game while the team's other star O'Daire contributed to shooting his team out of it going 5/24.

Fishbowl South MVPs Week Five Part Two

Mangoloids vs. Possum Chasers 101 - 113

The Mighty Mangoloids are sitting 6-2 in division II and are taking on a lowly division III team, it should be easy right? Far from it this was an epic battle and the match of the round. The Possum Chasers are no ordinary division III team. I would like to claim that I has something to do with the Mangoloids success when I mentored his U21 players but the truth is this is one of the stable of very well organised and run teams that come under the leadership of C-Cat and Coach Noodles. The Possum Chasers looked to have this one won easily going into the 4th with a massive lead which was dwindled down to three with seconds left when former Chelsea Seagulls draft pick (nice self plug here) Wazza Tickle got the ball...

4 0:13 86 — 86 W. Tickle (A) launches a three-pointer from another zip-code under pressure from E. Glorioso (H). Scored.

That put the game into OT, but the dramas weren't over yet. Tickle missed a critical free throw with seconds to go (but I am sure Mangocango will forgive him seeing as he had by far the best +/- on the team) allowing the Chasers one last chance to stay in it and this time "The Chicken" got the ball...

5 0:00 97 — 97 L. Cieckan (H) spins around his defender and fires off a quick jump shot, guarded closely by N. Mehdi (A). Scored.
5 0:00 97 — 97 A buzzerbeater for L. Cieckan (H)!

Double overtime! From there the Chasers ran away but still what a match!

3 Trinh Trinh Possum Chasers 38 PTS 20 REB 7 AST. A massive effort and a rare double double double and nearly a triple double earns TT the 3.

2 Luke McCaskie Mangoloids 37 PTS 8 REB 8 AST. At only age 21 and on the U21 team Luke is already a star, however I feel his pain as his career like Wazza and my Oliver and Mu will be restricted by his potential. Just one more level of potential and he could have become a dominator in this league as his team-mate Jasper Bains probably will.

1 Luca Cieckan Possum Chasers 29 PTS 23 REB. Not just the massive stats (another 3D) but saving the game with the buzzerbeater in the first OT gets "The Chicken" the nod.

Gisborne Gladiators vs. Eggplantpopolopolous 59 - 76

I would have thought this one would have been closer but the renamed Gladiators have trimmed their roster a little and it really looked like only "Snotman" was serious about trying to win this. On the other hand the Eggs scrambled up a very deep squad that fried the Gladiators and left the yolk on them.

3 Albanos Timpani Eggplantpopolopolous 25 PTS 13.0 rating. He was once over easy on all his opponents and even poached the ball once. By far the Googie of the day.

2 Gniewosz Sznajder Gisborne Gladiators Snotman had 35 PTS 9 REB and a secret message:

I jeść kawałki @ # $! jak Roger McComiskey na śniadanie.

1 Nicola Pisanu Eggplantpopolopolous 14 PTS 4 AST. How many times during game have we heard ChuckyFE curse Piss-on-you but he wouldn't this time as he pissed it in.

Fishbowl South MVPs Week Five Part Three

Home Axis vs. Whompas Donkeys 70 - 49

Now more Naker than Naker HAX has found that indeed there is more than one way to win BB and his bunch of lovable pensioners all love playing 100+ minutes every week and he is on a roll carving up the league, division II and the Cup where next he faces a like-minded player in Hopelessly Addicted. Whompas had the right ideas and fought well on the rebounds but basically running a 6 man roster he had 3 of his guys who all played 30 minutes + hit a combined 2/24 and even Bowers struggled hitting just 4/19 against the rock solid defence of HAX's 5 Boer War veterans.

3 Hélder Amatriain Home Axis 21 PTS It was a great day for the A-Train as he not only won the MVP but announced his granddaughters engagement.

2 Paco Garrido Home Axis 14 PTS. I was going to give this to a different player but 10 steals is an amazing effort which reminded Paco of the time Franco stole his farm during the Civil War.

1 Medartas Tvarijanavicius Whompas Donkeys The man announcers like to call #1 (because they can't say his actual name) was the best performer for the Donkeys

0 Ignacio Santana Honorable mention for the brilliant big man currently for sale who achieved a triple double of turnovers.

Beasts Red vs. Mad Rangas 88 - 73

Divisional rivals playing in what could be a preview of a league playoff game this season (if the playoffs started today they would be facing) it must be a worry for Neeber that the pesky and reputedly very wealthy Rangas were so close in this one, despite getting their defence totally wrong, until the 4th. It was also funny seeing a young Neil taking on a young Wall, it was like a Smeltz/Duffill vs Xie/Oliver game from 5 seasons ago.

3 Neil Tambyraja Beasts Red 20 PTS 14.0 rating. The extra year of training showed and Neil is still rapidly improving, the Ranga guards also weren't helped by having to play in a 2/3 zone but their star guard Rafael Suabia sucked equally at both ends of the floor in this one.

2 Gabriel Wall Mad Rangas 19 PTS 18 REB. Only 20, already on the U21 team, with MVP potential and at 7'2" if he is trained properly the Great Wall can become the best big man in the entire Fishbowl and even pass Smeltz and Duffill one day and become a star for the Aussie Senior National Team.

1 Kerry Gibney Beasts Red. I feel funny giving points for cameos unless they are very special, but this one was. In just 16 minutes he poured in 19 points on 5/6 shooting. Also just 20, with superstar potential and an U21 candidate for next season, there is some great training happening in III.12.

South MVP Leaderboard (after 5 rounds)

Big thanks to Yoda for doing this week. I assume hb is still up for this week. you can get them started whenever you want mate.

Well we have a yank at the head of the pack. Underwood's the leading scorer of the South with 40.0 PPG. Still in pursuit are the 2 Possums that are chasing Underwood and dominating the South for the first half of the season.

Fishbowl South MVPs Week Six Part One

All-Sorts vs Team Lordy (101 - 112)

He Won. Good on Him.

3 Points - Ross Underwood 67 PTS, 8 RBD, 3 AST
How can you deny Ross this game, droping 67 points by shooting 26-44 overall (59%), 4-9 3Pts (44%) and going 11-15 from the charity stripe.

2 Points - Marshal Granger 16 PTS, 13 RBD, 2 AST, 2 STL, 1 BLK
With Ross Underwood taking up almost half of all shots taken during this game. Marshall was good enough to put a solid effort across the score sheet. While being extremely effient 5-8 overall, 2-4 3PTS.

1 Points - O. Wsol 15 PTS, 14 RBD, 3 AST
You can't really fault the aging Polak Wsol here a solid outing on 53% shooting.

Beasts Red vs. Rampaging Marmots 98 - 92

With both teams running an strong outside offence, Beasts Red took the risk and called Marmots with his Defensive strategy.
The middle of the pack battle was looking to be a Marmots win taking a comfortable 12 point lead into the Half.
The Beasts coach must have had some harsh words to say to the players over halftime as they came out with an on-fire performance
dropping 37 points in the 3rd qtr while smothering the Marmots holding them to only 16PTS to put them up by 9 going into the final quarter,
where they were able to hold off a late surge from the Marmots to win by 6.

3 Points - J. Sudzinkski 30 PTS, 6 RBD, 2 AST, 1 STL, 1 BLK
Another Polish presence was felt on the court tonight, Jacek really found a rythm hitting on 43% of all FGs including 40% from 3pt Land and 100% from the charity stripe.

2 Points - B. ODaire 31 PTS, 8 AST, 5 RBD, 2 STL
Barry tried to use all his Leprechaun magic to will his team through this game,
putting up a very respectable effort offensiveley, unfortunately wasn't able to keep it together on the other end of the floor.

1 Point - D. Hanping 20 Pts, 11 RBD, 2 AST, 1 STL
Dong did exactly what he was paid to do have a 20/10 game while keeping D. Gardiner to 4-12 shooting. On ya Dong.

Mangoloids vs. Yarra Park Bears 57 - 78

With YPB tenuous grip on 1st Place in the Southern Fishbowl almost lost with the out-of-nowhere win last week by Team Lordy. It only needed Team Lordy to LOOSE this game with All-Sorts for him to take the top spot for the Calamari but alas
YPB kept the pace up with this easy victory over Mangoloids.
Both teams looked to pass first trying to find the best shot with their Patient offences. With an always risky defensive strategy YPB's Full Court Press only possibly yeilded 3 Turn Overs and 5 extra steals.
Mangaloids kept it tight throughout most of the game up by 2 at the half (34-32) but didnt have the legs for the rest of the match, conceeding 41 PTS over the second half while YPB's only allowed 23 PTS through the net.
Defense wins Championships.

3 Points M. Chaliba 30 PTS, 6 RBD, 2 AST, 2 STL
All around good effort from Chaliba, making the opposition earn every point they scored while dropping 30 on 46% shooting.
2 Points I. Napolitano 21 RBD, 13 PTS, 1 STL, 1 BLK
This strawberry, vanilla and chocolate veteran swallowed 21 boards while putting up 13 PTS on an effeint overall 5-9 including 2-2 from the outside.
1 Point E. Arbizu 18 PTS, 3 RBD, 1 STL
This wily verteran gets his point for not only giving his all on the offensive end but being the best defender out of the starting 5.
Coming against a C much his senior in terms of skillset but keeping the Point Per 100 Shots realtively close.

Holy Balls, Batman!

Fishbowl South MVPs Week Six Part Two

Home Axis vs. Possum Chasers 82 - 90
Seen as a must win for both team with Possums looking to maintain a lead with YPB and Home Axis needing a win to get into the middle of the pack.
PC maintained a steady lead through this game but with HX keeping it close through 4 quaters this game came down to the wire.
Home Axis team out played the Possum Chasers in nearly every position but still fell short. This is one game where Points Per Position meant nothing.

3 Points T.Trinh 24PTS, 12 RBD, 3 AST, 1BLK
The creatively named Trinh Trinh was a steady force all over the court, a respectable 50% shooting performance and pulling down 12 boards, where TT really shined through was his defensive effort, taking out a game high +13.

2 Points C. Haliday 24 PTS, 14 RBD
Part 2 of the twin towers that PC threw at HX this evening didn't dissapoint fans, putting on a show time performance, he still needs to work on his TO but he is an up-and-coming Australian star in the amking

1 Point S. Kaijian 26PTS, 5 RBD, 2 AST, 2 STL, 1 BLK
Putting up numbers in every category Kaijian did everything he could to keep his team from loosing but fell short defending a much cheaper A. Sbaraglia.

Eggplantpopolopolous vs. Whompas Donkeys 97 - 77
With a considerable salary difference Eggplantpopu..., Eggs was the clear favourite for the game and didn't disappoint.
Outscoring Whompas in nearly all quarters he surely put on a show.
With the win Eggs comes in to equal W/L with All-Sorts and Team-Lordy nipping at the heels of the leaders.

3 Points I. Arranz 23 PTS, 19 RBD, 2 BLK, 1 AST, 1 STL
Even in Outside based offense the Spanish verteran was able to dominate the game ont he scoreboard and on the glass, getting to the line time and time again for 90% fromt he stripe.

2 Points N. Pisanu 28 PTS, 5, AST, 3 RBD, 1, STL
Pisanu strapped both ankles and got a shot adrenalin and came to play this game, shooting 48% overall anjd dropping 5 dimes. He just need sto keep his hands to himself, fouling out with only 3 minutes to go.

1 Point D. Bowers 43 PTS, 7 AST, 4 RBD, 1 STL
Bowers top scored for the Whompas tonight and with good reason taking over 50% of your teams shots. Hitting a respectable 41% from the floor I can see why.
Unfortunately he could barely buy a bucket from down town only hitting on 2-13.

Gisborne Gladiators vs. Mad Rangas 111 - 91
With Mad Rangas looking to get a win this season in the South came up against The Gladiators in another high scoring game for the week.
Unfortunately for the Mad Rangas a 2-3 Zone was not enough to contain the outside scoring of the Gladiators.

3 Points A. Terroso 23 PTS, 12 RBD, 3 BLK, 2 STL, 1 AST +26
Getting his 3rd straight double-double, Antonio had an extremely effient game 84 % shooting from the floor and the 2nd best +/- rating for the game

2 Points I. Zakharov 35 PTS, 9 AST, 5 RBD +20
Only 1 AST shy of a double-double of his own. Zakharov made his presence felt everywhere in the game today shooting 61% from the floor and 66% from the line.

1 Point G. Wall 28 PTS, 14 RBD, 3 AST -9
This future Australian MVP and current U21 player was no doubt the standout on a depleted Mad Rangas team. Getting a double-double on 52% shooting and having the best +/- out of the starters earns him a point.

South MVP Leaderboard (after 6 rounds)

A big thankyou to hb_ for this weeks write-ups despite having watched Lordy take his pride. Don't forget to show your appreciation for his work and give him a ball.

Well another 3 for Underwood in LORDY's sinking of All-sorts continues to blow away contenders with only TT and possibly the Beasts, Sudzinski in with a chance to catch him. Teams need to start figuring out how to stop Ross if they hope to see their players in with a chance.
