Week 5 MVPs

Time for me to actually do something!

Melbourne Goldfish vs. CROCKERS 101 - 90

CROCKERS were the early favourites to win the East and are still probably well placed to do it but they are in a bit of a transition phase having sold off a couple of key players and not replaced them yet. The Goldfish sought to take advantage of this by running the four real CROCKERS into the ground with a run and gun/full court press combination. This worked very well until there was a Bulls-like colapse in the 4th and CROCKERS nearly came back for the win.

3 Barlas Karahan Melbourne Goldfish 34 PTS 14/26 FGS $ REB 3 AST. Barlas, aka "The Midnight Express" had a great night shooting up everything and dealing multiple blows to CROCKERS.

2 Aniello Boccaccio CROCKERS 45 PTS. What a scoring explosion, while the 5 turnovers weren't great this was a scintilating offensive performance. This Jump Shot: stupendous player can be yours for just $900,000.

1 Xie Guanzheng Melbourne Goldfish 19 PTS 6 REB 7 AST 6 STE 10/11 FTS 12.0 rating. What an all around performance by Xie the master chef who had a smorgasboard of contributions but was a little off target with his shooting.

Beasts Red vs. Chumunga 74 - 92

The Beasts led by national U21 player Neil Tambyraja played a great game against the much more highly regarded Watermelons. By shutting down Neil and friends with a 3-2 zone and going inside to their strengths Sultan and Kuzel, tremell ensured the valliant effort wouldn't turn into a heroic victory.

3 Boris Kužel Chumunga 23 PTS 12 REB 7 O-REB 14.0 rating. Despite fouling out Boris just pipped teammate Sultan with a superior defensive effort and those impressive offensive rebounds. He also did all of this in a mere 26 minutes!

2 Selçuk Sultan Chumunga 23 PTS 14 REB. The Sultan of Swing had the Beasts in Dire Straights despite playing out of position as SF (although he always does this in PL games). Solid at both ends of the floor it was the sort of effort we have come to expect from one of the class players from last season's Outcasts League.

1 Andrea Runcio Beasts Red 20 PTS 6 REB 3 STE. With everyone on his team besides him and Gigliotti having a horrid shooting night Andrea had to carry the team in offence but with little support it was not nearly enough.

Northcote Slammers vs. Rampaging Marmots 93 - 87

Our game of the week saw Greeno show just what he is capable of when his players are all healthy. Did this game remind anyone of Miami vs Chicago? While most would have favoured the Marmots and they certainly got their tactics right giving away 25 free throws to their amazingly low total of 2 ment that the dirty Marmots lost this one to the good guy Slammers at the charity stripe. The Marmots coach was heard at the end of the game to say, "@#$%^&*" 25-2! Wow! Even more amazing the Marmots were up 87-82 with 1:22 to go and in a Bulls-like massive choke never scored again

3 Pier Giorgio Masetti Northcote Slammers 28 PTS 16 REB 12.5 rating. More importantly players like him and Harakka were calm when the game was on the line he had 2 assists, 2 rebounds and a basket in the final minute. Mr Clutch!

2 Sam Clune Rampaging Marmots 35 PTS. A big total but he couldn't get the job done down the strech missing a critical shot and just standing around doing nothing while B. Ó Daire threw up ugly bricks.

1 Georgy Trifonov Northcote Slammers 14 PTS 8 REB 9 AST. Not far off a triple double shows a very good all around performance.

Week 5 Part Two

SASTROOPERS vs. Slam ! 121 - 57

Considering they played against a lucky fans and 34 year old $3k guys this game should have been a much bigger blowout. Slam ! has no team and so got Slammed !

3 Ky Smeltz SASTROOPERS 38 PTS 19 REB 15.0 rating. Surely going to be mentioned in the Smeltz hall of fame ceremony will be the fact that in this game he kept the Lucky Fan scoreless. Way to go Smeltz!

2 Rodrigo Bustos SASTROOPERS 13 PTS 12 REB. They aren't the key stat, that is that he kept his opponent to 0-13 FGS. It aint wheelchair basketball guys, this isn't a Naker match!

1 Margus Saar SASTROOPERS 23 PTS 11/15 FGS. Let down a lot by the fact that he let the 34 year old 3k wheelchair man score 19.

Da Fat Boy Slim vs. Cowboys From Hell 71 - 89

This was a huge match as divisional rivals squared off and the undefeated Da Fat Boy Slim had the chance to show they are the best in this very tight and even league. As usual they looked to their big men to dominate and while Duffman was his usual self Bikin met his match in the position that probably determined the game. The Cowboys continue to have outstanding defence and kept their opponents to a horrendous 1-16 from the 3 point line and allowed just 6 points in the 4th quarter.

3 Daniel Peixet Cowboys From Hell 17 PTS 19 REB 16.0 rating. Those scores are enough but he fouled out Bikin in just 28 minutes and kept him to 10 points.

2 Kye Duffill Da Fat Boy Slim 38 PTS 13 REB 16.5 rating. Great stats but MVPs don't let their team score just 6 in the entire 4th quarter.

1 Antoine Villain Cowboys From Hell 20 PTS. Efficient as always, scored well and a critical part of the Cowboys stifling defence.

JW City Bulls vs. Chelsea Seagulls 75 - 105

I thought this match would be much closer but some excellent shooting from the Seagulls as well as solid inside/outside defence and some crisp passes ended up in combining for a blowout.

3 Oliver Ðuričko Chelsea Seagulls 25 PTS 4 REB 4 AST 5 STE 13.0 rating. Great all around performance by the wondrous "Ducky" the Seagulls last original player who despite being old, and capped, still dreams that one day he will be marvelous.

2 Vallo Tammela Chelsea Seagulls 18 PTS 8/11 FGS. Another long time Seagull who has been with the club since season 10 he celebrated the win and the best +/- in the game with a JS pop!

1 Jasper Kent JW City Bulls 19 PTS 5 AST. Forget his horrid shooting % between his 19 points and 5 rebounds Jasper had a hand in nearly half of JWs 75 points.

Fishbowl East Season Four MVPs Week 7 Part One

I am going to be very careful to not lose all the comments this week.

Northcote Slammers vs. CROCKERS 111 - 71

I thought that this would be a very exciting game however I forgot that while Northcote is in promotion mode CROCKERS is firmly in the tank just trying to save money and prepare for next season while the big teams in his league battle for the championship. He is also attempting to train the greatest basketballer ever from that hotbed of hoops heaven, Mövsüm Javadov from Azərbaycan. While Javadov didn't dominate this game the ever reliable Rod McPhail did stop this from turning into a complete rout.

3 Pier Giorgio Masetti Northcote Slammers 27 PTS 11 REB 10/16 FGS 12.5 rating. Was efficient and the equal best rated player in the game he did it all and even chipped in a few assists and steals.

2 Malcom Doherty Northcote Slammers 29 PTS 7 AST. While he did pad his stats a bit playing almost the whole game in a 40 point blowout no doubt he was way too much for CROCKERS SG Oketopa to handle who went 0/5 for the game.

1 Rod McPhail CROCKERS 42 PTS. I may be risking giving C-Cat some work already on my first game giving points to the losing team in this slaughter but 42 points which was more than half of the team's total is impressive when the rest of the team was barely worth guarding.

Chumunga vs. Slam ! 124 - 96

Two more tanking teams (seems to be a trend, maybe I should jump onboard). But while Chumunga had a thin but adequate team Slam had $4,000 guys playing 47 minutes, so the prize for being the most tanky goes to Slam ! Meanwhile if you are interested in slightly used but still effective players Chumunga has almost his entire team for sale now and with Abrams Peldinš getting an early bid we wont be seeing him again.

3 Boris Kužel Chumunga 33 PTS 12 REB 15.0 rating. A brilliant performance by the big guy who can be yours for a whopping $2,000,000 (but if you have that much instead you would buy Bassarab who is much, much better and only $200,000 more).

2 Taras Bessarab Chumunga 24 PTS 21 REB. 15.0 rating. And here he is, Mr Triple-Prodigious himself. I think the strong OD and JS as well is what turns Taras into an elete performer week after week. Being sold way above the TPE but this is one skillset that may be worth this massive pricetag. If I had $2,200,000 I would be very tempted. I also liked the way he constantly got himself to the freethrow line and despite only average FT skill knocked down 10/11.

1 Selçuk Sultan Chumunga 28 PTS 10 REB 4 AST. I know this is a bit tough on Meelis Klaar who did play well but the big three of Chumunga did all really shine and it would be very tough on the Sultana to leave him out. Probably Likan Gjata would like a mention too for teriffic stats in limited minutes but I am worried about his +/- of 0 when the next worst on the entire team was +26. When Likan was on things went wrong.

Fishbowl East Season Four MVPs Week 7 Part Two

Tremell despite me being so, so, so careful not to lose everything my stupid mouse nearly did when 6 times I tried to copy that last section and it failed and eventially instead of copying it sent me to the NT matches schedule before the report had been submitted.

Melbourne Goldfish vs. SASTROOPERS 73 - 88

The game of the roung pitting two of the top three teams against each other should have been something special, instead it was a pitiful mismatch with the Smeltztroopers geting all the tactics and matchups right and the Xiefish getting them all wrong. One thing both teams did the same was both flogged their star player for 48 minutes so no matter how garbagy the game became Smeltz and Xie were both out there padding their stats. In the end Smeltz and Xie had 32 and 33 points (the next best was 12) and ratings of 15.5 and 14.0 (also the best two in the match). So in this two man game who was the best?

3 Ky Smeltz SASTROOPERS 32 PTS 21 REB 15/33 FGS 15.5 rating. I don't know why he threw up 4 3-pointers (all ugly misses) but there was no doubt that Smeltz stamped all over the weak little fishies in this one like the Shark he is. Perhaps this win over MVP rival will give him the trophy for the 4th time in 4 seasons. I'm sure all his fans including his biggest fan, Pte_Nguyen will be cheering him if he does.

2 Xie Guanzheng Melbourne Goldfish 33 PTS 13 REB 12/24 FGS 7/10 3-PTRS 14.0 rating. Yes he scored more than Smeltz, shot better and had an amazing rebound haul for a guard, but a lot of this was done in garbage time when the game was over, in the first half he was nowhere to be seen. If this second half production had brought the team to victory I would call him Dirk, instead I call him Iversson.

Actually hard to find someone worthy of one vote, a PG who got 3 assists, a SG who shot 1/7...

1 Margus Saar SASTROOPERS 11 PTS 11 REB. Far from the top two but he made a contribution.

JW City Bulls vs. Da Fat Boy Slim 85 - 98

Despite being "too tense and serious" this season and really messing up the tactics in this game Datzilla still had a much better team on the night and was able to ride Ralph Rendon (like the alliteration?) to victory. Very unusual to see Duffman and Bikin be so outplayed by a member of their own team, this should really be a good sign for the Slims.

3 Ralph Rendon Da Fat Boy Slim 47 PTS 10 AST 5 REB 13.5 rating. It was a battle of SGs in this game and Rendon humiliated Joel Vulcan outscoring him by a ton as Vulcan couldn't hit a shot (5/18) and eventually fouled out in frustration after just 36 minutes.

2 Jörn Bikin Da Fat Boy Slim What a sad day, this long time team stalwart is for sale and is heading to Japan. Amazing to see what low skills he has, triple sensational, none of my bigs are that low and yet he was consistently impressive, maybe it was having the big Duffman at his side that made the diference. He has years of good play left in him and I wish him well. I would love to know why he is being sold, he looks like an awesome backup C to me.

1 Yam Ben-Gigi JW City Bulls 7/8 FGS 15 PTS in 8 minutes. I normally don't like to give points to bit players but on a night where the rest of the team combined for 29/83 FGS he was 7/8. Also for sale at a very cheap price the prolific defender will also soon be playing somewhere else.

Is there a stock market crash coming? Is there something I don't know? CROCKERS, Chumunga, Slam !, Da Fat Boy Slim and JW City Bulls are all selling (sold) off their teams. Should I press the panic button now?

Fishbowl East Season Four MVPs Week 7 Part Two

Beasts Red vs. Cowboys From Hell 65 - 96

It was a battle of the top of the ladder against the bottom and even a 30-19 comeback in garbage time for the Beasts couldn't make this one look respectable. The Cowboys defence ratings were much lower than usual perhaps beacuse the subs played so many minutes. They stayed with their trusty neutral offence and neutral defence and as usual it delivered.

3 Feyzullah Perçin Cowboys From Hell 28 PTs 10 REB 4 AST 4 STE 13.5 rating. Shades of another Smeltz/Xie stat padding but the numbers don't lie, in this blowout he was by far the most prolific and the all around contribution was impressive.

2 Camillo Marchesoli Cowboys From Hell 14 PTS 13 REB. Shot a little better than Peixet but rebounded less. You tell me who was better. He was slightly more impressive in the first half when the game was still a contest with 12 of his rebounds by the big break.

1 Daniel Peixet Cowboys From Hell 11 PTs 15 REB 15.0 rating. Honestly a coin toss between him and Camillo Marchesoli as they both annihilated JWs inside isolation attack. Tambyraja tried hard for the beasts but 5/15 shooting wont cut it.

Rampaging Marmots vs. Chelsea Seagulls 82 - 94

Normally I would be an expert on my own game but I confess to being busy yesterday and missing it. It was a game of quarters with Chelsea taking two by 6 and 13, the Marmots surging back in the second by 8 and the last being very even. RabidCamel used a Naker-like 6 players for the match and perhaps they had run out of puff by the end. The Marmots had their tactics right with the Seagulls best big being out injured, and when Cyril the next best inside defender fouled out they should have been able to take advantage but perhaps they were simply exhausted trying to keep up with the run and gun without a sub by then.

3 Vallo Tammela Chelsea Seagulls 23 PTS 5 REb 4 AST. After not being much appreciated recently Vallo a season 10 long time Seagull was doing everything right in this game including keeping the Marmots more well known Ireland NT player Barry Ó Daire to just 9 points in 48 minutes.

2 Dan Gardner Rampaging Marmots 30 PTS 18 REB. There was no stopping the big Yank this match as he rampaged the paint against the Seagulls injured, old, fouling men. 8/10 free throws showed that his aggression inside the paint paid off.

1 Mu Hongyun Chelsea Seagulls 16 PTS 6/9 FGS in 17 minutes. Future U21 hopeful Mu put up big numbers in a little time and scored his forst MVP points ever. Chelsea hopes that it will not be his last as this rapidly improving 20 year old will hopefully be a wondrous jump shooter this time next week.

So it seems the clear leader at the 7/11th part of the season is none other than 3 time leavge MVP Ky Smeltz with a very strong lead already. Way back in second is long time rival Xie Guanzheng and trailing him is the new and less known but highly effective Pier Giorgio Masetti. Funny I look at Pier and assume he is not being trained anymore and then I remember that Xie is 30 and still geting trained. The last three guys that have a chance to still make it are Daniel Peixet form the amazing Cowboys, Xie's best friend Kye Duffill and R Rendon also from Da Fat Boy Slim.

There is still 3 months free supporter for one lucky coach of one of the top 10 MVP players and there are a bunch of guys still in there with a chance (go Rober!) so keep posted BuzzerBeater fans.

Another week in the Fishbowl East, another round of MVP's to congratulate...

Chumunga vs. CROCKERS 55 - 81 (35545823)

A lot of pride was at stake between these 2 guppie "tankers". In what is the ultimate grudge match for me personally and possibly the same for bevers, these 2 rebuilding squads had a test of who has the best youngsters....And the result was pretty emphatic with a old fella named Mcphail abusing chumunga along the way.

3. R. McPhail (Crockers) - McFail as i like to call him abused my youngsters. Seriously abused them bad! He had 45 points on 18-40, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in a abusing display. Did i mention he abused my players??

2. M. Javadov (Crockers) - Javadov played the Scotty Pippen role perfectly for Crockers hitting 17 points whilst collecting 3 reb and 3 blks at SG.

1. D. Stulpinš (Crockers) - Stulpins had a special game matched up against Sultan at C, Chumunga's only real player of note. Although stulpins only had 4 points he had a game high 25 boards to stop any 2nd chances from Chumunga which was important.

JW City Bulls vs. Melbourne Goldfish 102 - 88 (35545820)

In what was an upset of sorts JW a bottom feeder so far this PL season put fishy out of the finals race you would think...JW showed he is a real force inside offensively taking fishys bigmen all over the place with a prolific low rating. If only he was in this form earlier in the league season he really could have been a contender.....

3. L. Wai Yuen (JW City Bulls) - Wai Yuen was the player of the match dominating at the C position and giving fishy headaches all game. He finished with 25 points, 11 reb, 2 assists and 2 blocks. Not a bad day at the office.

2. Ð. Cvoro (JW City Bulls) - Cvoro played a crucial allround game for JW hitting 20 points, 16 reb, 2 assists and 2 blks. He also shot 10-14 free throws which was reasonably impressive.

1. X. Guanzheng (Melb Goldfish) - Xie just scraped through for the 1 vote this game with his team high 24 points. Crucially he was all over the court filling up the other stats baskets as well which got him the vote...He had 6 reb, 3 assists, 3 steals and 4 blocks from the SG position.

Chelsea Seagulls vs. Slam ! 108 - 91 (35545825)

The Chelsea Seagulls kept their very very feint hopes of finals action alive in this game with a tough fought win over cellar dwellar Slam. Slam tactically kept this game close loading up on his perimeter D which hampered Chelsea to truly blow this one apart.

3. V. Tammela (Chelsea Seagulls) - Tammella was a star for Chelsea on the day hitting not only 29 points but crucially for his team and the MVP voting getting his hands on 6 steals. He also contributed 4 assists to the cause to help take top dog status in this game.

2. A. Ascariz (Slam) - In a surprise move Ascariz stole the 2 votes away from Chelsea in this game. I just couldnt overlook his stat line in this game and he was a crucial reason Slam stayed competitive. He had 32 points on 15-22, 22 rebounds and 7 assists from the C spot. What a performance.

1. O. Ðuričko (Chelsea Seagulls) - Duricko can consider himself the unlucky man that was held out of the 2 votes. He amassed 27 points, 3 reb and 2 assists. All very worthy vote getters from this game.
