i was out monday, as i had warned you before.

my logic was plain and simple. I put the best defender on the the guy who was the most dangerous. Yet i can't help but find it extremely frustrating that Costa Rica got 1/4th of the points from FT's...

As for princeton, the starter would have been easy at the PF. but we didn't have a back up, and you and i both know that Freire ( despite the weekly psy that the NT pay in order to get Freires boxing issues under control) fauls out way to fast. So i had no alternative their.

Likewise, LI/LP with Lahure, Fleeton and Mees, who all are faul happy, was too risky. i don't understand the CT part, and i'm pretty annoyed with it. As for the line up, all that was to be explained, was written in a mail. If i were to explain any more, i'd have to write down to much info about the NT's players, which i'd rather not do. If you were satisfied by the line up, so be it. I'm pretty sure i had every angle covered defensifly, but the thing that was the real killer was the zone defence. I really was hoping to avoid that 3-2 zone, but i would have played 3-2 aswell if my opponent loses 3 bigs on saterday.

with our victory over our German neighbours, we now virtually have secured a spot ammongst the top 16 in the KO stages.

Even with a loss against Hungaria, our last opponent, our goal average should be better than anyone comming from a 5-2 record, meaning that in the worst case scenario, we'd end up on the 16th spot, and thus have HCA in our first game of the KO stages.

So all that needs to be done, is avoid a huge defeat against Hungaria, and we'll have made our first goal for this season ( being having HCA during the first round of the KO stages) unfortunately, injuries really have hurt our GS lately, so the remaining 2 spots will most likely be filled up shortly with a few extra players to full up the gaps in our NT squad.

after double OT, Belgium have beaten Hungaria to claim a 7-1 record in the Consolation tournament, their best preformance in teh consolation tournament by far.

The loss against Costa Rica is even more regretfull now, since it would have put at the second or 3rd spot. Yet, it still doesn't guarantee us of an easy opponent.

We'll be ending 6th or 7th, depending on Argentina's result against Japan later on this evening.

As for our opponent, their are alot of possibilities. Uruguay, Georgia (Sakartvelo), Bulgaria or Moldavia seem to be the biggest probabilities, but maybe we'll still see some upsets on that position. I sure hope to avoid a big caliber team in the first round (at this stage, their are no more weak teams, but some teams are more equal than others.... euhm, i mean stronger than others ;)

We had some insane ratings in our last game, and the mismatch on SF spot really gave us the edge against a very strong Hungaria, who almost defeated us on our home court despite only being able to field 1 of their 300k+ C's ( Raffay and Tasi weren't in good shape). Altho, same can be said from our team, since our NT has been batteling alot of injuries lately on the big guy's...

By tomorrow morning, we should know our fixure for the KO 32 round, where we are sure to have HCA. Let's hope it's a good one so that we can get into the KO 16 round, which Belgium hasn't been able to do yet in it's long history of consolation tournaments...

Great win! Looks like the outside players felt like winning yesterday ^^
Croatia is a hard opponent though...

We got lucky with some match-ups. Especially at the SF spot we ended up being fortunate. If we consider the fact that their top 2 C's weren't in good shape, then we got away pretty well.

Hungaria is clearly stronger than us. If you can force OT, while not being able to use your 2 best C's + playing on your opponents court, then you are much stronger than your opponent. On a neutral court, we would have won it. If we would have had a slightely different match up at the SF spot, they would have won it aswell.

Ofcourse, having such salary monsters on your team, means that they often won't be in good shape. If they are in good shape, Hungaria is an unstoppable team. If they aren't in good shape, then their opponents have a small chance to get a win. Yet, without your top 2 C's AND a very disadvantagous matchup on SF spot, to force double OT, that is something worth taking your hats off for.

I sure am glad as hell that Hungaria is in the top branch of the KO stages. Now it comes down to GS more than anything else. If our players can stay in good shape, then we could progress a bitt futher. Alot will be depending on our opponent tho, cause their are several teams which even with HCA, we are unlikely to beat ( the fact that germany had no enthusiasme left, and that we got lucky with hungaria, means our opponents will most likely be weary of us. They won't underestimate us no more).

This is why i don't select players if they can't defend for out NT.

Our Nt players might not be the best offensif guy's, but when it comes down to defending, you can be sure that they all should be able to hold their positions.

Today, against Croatia, i decided to take a little gamble, since i had this fairy whisper in my ear that they would go outside. They had been going inside the whole season ( probably hoping to lure out a 2-3 zone from us...) But with their 2 big C's out of shape and their 3rd best C getting injured, they had to call up 3 players.

If 1 player is a 114k C (which, by all means is low for a salary on a C, so it had to be a specialist) allong with 2 guards, then if you add 1 and 1, you get 2 ( which was 3-2 zone). I'd like to thank that fairy for whispering that in my ear, cause with my exams, i wouldn't have noticed the call ups untill just prior to the game.

Next up is Latvia, a very strong team, which seems to be plagued by poor Gameshape. Despite the poor gameshape, they had a very easy qualifying round, thus stacking up huge ammounts of enthousiasme. They only lost to Bolivia, who had decided to play CT against them while they were playing home (hey, that seems very simular to the story of us playing against Costa Rica...). Despite their recent GS struggles, they should have had a 8-0 record, just like we should have had...

They didn't have alot of though opponents. The most challenging one was without dought the Netherlands, who they seemingly send packing pretty easely ( not good news for us Belgians, since Netherlands are a bitt stronger than us...).

This is most certainly going to be a very though game, but regardless of the result, The Belgian NT has made it to the 2nd round in the KO stages of the tournament, which means that it's already doing better than any of the previous consolation Tourney's... Let's hope we can add another round to it. In the event of a win, Turkey is looming right around the corner, and in the event that we'd get that far, playing turkey would be a nearly certain loss...

However, i'll start thinking about Turkey once i face them. I'm taking a game by game approche right now.

After the Competitive NT season is concluded, their will be 2 scrimmages against the U21, to call up players who are in training to reward them with some minutes ( which should add a bitt of XP to their players. They are the futur of Belgium, so need to give them enough attention). The idea will be something like last season, where the top U21 players stay on their U21 roster, where as the NT will take in a few more trained guy's, aswell as some up and comming 20 year olds to balance the team out a bitt.

Since Marchoul is owned by the Danish NT coach, a scrimmage against Danmark will be arranged aswell ( it should have taken place already last season, but due to an unforseen circumstance, Both NT's didn't manage to find a spot in their NT schedule to face eachother).

Their, that should give you a preview of what is to come where the season to end against Latvia. However, i have no intension what soever to give up just yet. The scrimmages can always be postponed, so for now, we're concentrated on our task at hands, which will be trying to find a way to beat Latvia.

Another Win against Latvia, this time around, we somehow crushed our opponent.

16 point difference. Against Latvia. Damn.

Croatia and Latvia both are strong nations. But normally, this will be the end of the trip for us now. Turkey is away us with a monstrous enthousiasme and we'll be playing on their court... They've got a killer team to top it all. So Turkey should be the end of the round for us...

Belgium have made it into the Final 8, which is their best consolation performance thus far. I'm pretty pleased with the season (we would have had that number 2 seed if Costa Rica hadn't CTed us... argh)

Number one seeded team Slovenko has been eliminated by a CT from Portugal. Other than that, every other team with HCA has won their second game ( Russia still has to play argentina tho).

regardless of the next result, we won't have any HCA anymore in this tournament. Let's enjoy the moment and start making preparations for next season.
