By your very explanation Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Dan Marino know nothing about their respective sports, because they never won a championship? That is some seriously flawed logic. Manon didn't say he wasn't trying to win with cookie cut builds ( which only show that you take the easiest way out), but that he is trying to build a team to win with his very own strategy. I'd rather play with and against people that play differently. That way when I see a different strategy/style, I know how to engage or defend it properly. It has nothing to do with win at all costs. You play to win, he plays to innovate, I play to have fun. Which one is right?

Edit for spelling

I don't see why you have imagined for yourself that somehow the GE is different for the lower levels or newer teams. Its the same game, same GE, same skills, same training system.

The difference is, one group of people have proved they know something about how it works. Being in DV proves nothing my friend. I donT' know why people get so upset when I state the obvious.

You are just harping on the idea that someone who has won has proven themself. You hate that idea, czu you ahven'T won yet. Get over it already.

No, I respect anybody that has won and I do think that it's essential to get input from high level managers to address the issues that they are absolutely expert on. But to be honest, how helpful are those people going to be in determining how, say, outside isolation is working? They don't play it, nobody they play who is competitive with them plays it, and if you go down most of the offensive and defensive tactics, there are very few that they deal with in actual competitive play.

And why do most of the things that are deemed as not working at the elite level considered broken? Because it's "too expensive' to have high SB or high JR for players required to play those offenses. But as far as the actual engine, is there really a flaw in these tactics or just the salary formula? Luckily, although the players needed to run those offenses at the B3 level are simply unaffordable, there do exist lower levels where the salary levels are less, and as you said yourself, it's the same game, same GE, same skills. So will you learn more from the guy who says it's too expensive because for his level of competition, it is, or from the guys who actually see it or use it because the salaries are less onerous at lower levels?

As far as making it personal, you're barking up the wrong tree. If anything, I just get disappointed that so many of your posts end up essentially equating the worth of someone's opinion to their accomplishments in the game - especially because I probably end up agreeing with you more than not, but strangely feel like I'm posting a whole lot more when I disagree.

This thread is about a short list. And who should make that short list, seems pretty obvious to me. They simply can't pool the minds of 40k people without turning us all into borg or something....

Or close to the borg, at least.

Anyway, I think I had an idea that actually is a decent middle ground - most NT and U21 communities I imagine have quite a lot of input on decisions from those who aren't the manager. I suspect that the NT managers might be able to find people who that they feel have a good grasp on the GE based on the discussions that they have had with the "candidate". I don't mean people who just scout, obviously, but those who have demonstrated an understanding of the important facets of the engine. By having the choices be vetted by the "experts" we're not handing the keys over to some Joe Schmoe on the forums, but we're also actually ensuring that any questions about how changes might effect lower levels might actually include some folks who actually have, you know, been there in the past ten seasons or so.
