Season 17, Merlions Squad to open Consolation Tournament at Eesti.

Tomorrow, Singapore will start their quest to secure an Home Court Advantage for Season 18 Asian Tournament. But after a peek on the schedule, that journey doesn't look that smooth.

The Merlions will fly to Eesti tonight, to face Estonian team that are equipped with two six-figured salary giant. Even though one of them is injured, their third and fourth bigman are still almost doubled Lim Shi Xin's salary.

After the Eesti match, Singapore will fly home to host their second game against Croatian team, a slightly lighter than Eesti, but still a question mark to beat.

As predicted, how far the Merlions will march on this tournament, will rely a lot on Lim Shi Xin and Peh Jian Long shoulders. And for Abdul Rauf Ishak and Ling Feng Kong, this is the best event to prove them as the best Iron Man on this Global U21 Tournament.

Singapore first match will start on Monday 10.30pm.

Butcher Knife effect : Singapore lose game opener to Goliath Eesti 85-121

After the points leading change like see-saw on 1st quarter, the slain starts.

Both Yap Kwang Meng and Ling Feng Kong were held captive from three point land, after they were redhot on 1st quarter, and SGP trademark Run & Gun game has gone south since, as Eesti keep bombarding the paint area, resulted 40 points lead on 3rd quarter. 4th quarter was much for Eesti bench time, and they ended the game 121-85.

Abd Rauf Ishak led SGP with 20pts, while Loh Leong Tong has 15pts and 8rebs. Ling Feng Kong and Yap Kwang Meng has 14 each. Singapore were outrebounded 71-32, pretty much damage from a team with six-figure giants.

Singapore will be heading home to host their second match versus Croatia on next Monday 6pm.

Lim Shi Xin led Singapore past Hrvatska 105-91

Pretty much a turnaround with a good feeling, especially when against one of European Juggernaut team.

Lim Shi Xin flushed 33 points (15-18 FG) and 16 rebounds, ignited Merlions' nitro start on 3rd quarter to extend 55-43 lead become 82-63 at the end of third. And it was 20+ points lead throughout the 4th, before the Croatians cut it to 14 before the horn sounded. The Final score was 105-91 for Singapore.

Loh Leong Tong was brilliant as well, came off the bench and was everywhere to snatch offensive rebounds. He finished with 17pts and 10rebs (5 off rebs) with only 24 minutes playing. Peh Jian Long, shaked away his first game woes to score 17pts 12rebs and 3 blks. With three of their bigman have their day, Singapore outrebounded their opponent 58-34.

Despite an impressive win, the Singapore still allowing Hrvatska to score easy buckets, mostly on 2nd quarter, with Vilim Hegedušić keep playing above the rim off the feed from Edi Rušin. Hegedušić fiinished with 8/8 FG en route for 19 pts.

After first two game, Singapore will wait for the World Cup repechage games result to see their next schedule.

What's next for Merlion? The schedule is out now...

1. vs Barbados (rank 95) 8/22/2011 6:00:00 PM
2. @ Bahamas (rank 96) 8/30/2011 7:00:00 AM
3. vs Kazakhstan (rank 67) 9/5/2011 6:00:00 PM
4. @ Belgium (rank 21) 9/13/2011 1:35:00 AM
5. vs Japan (rank 69) 9/19/2011 6:00:00 PM
6. @ Hungary (rank 19) 9/27/2011 12:40:00 AM

The snowball.... is the best to describe how's Singapore schedule looks like.

Barbados and Bahamas are the right place to for the Merlions to breathe for a moment, before the spiral goes bigger with a visit from stronger Kazakhtsan team.

After that, the schedule become more challenging with the squad have to travel to Belgium to face the world rank #21.

Back home to host Japan. Time to relax? Not really, because the Ninjas are usually strong near end of Tournament, and won't hesitate to initiate a CT battle, which sent Singapore U21 laid goose egg, winless on Consolation Tournament two season ago.

The final game is much like the Adventure Sony Playstation video games, when you have to face the last boss battle. Hungary is much looking like Eesti, with their six-figure salary mammoth waiting to swallow their opponent.

Looking at the Standing, India, Macau and Thailand are leading the pools, with better chance to host next season Asian Tournament.

For Singapore to slip past them, they will need their Fantastic Four (Lim Shi Xin, Peh Jian Long, Abdul Rauf Ishak & Ling Feng Kong) to stay max, and then they will only have to fear Belgium and Hungary.
