As a rough guideline to check wether a player is worth training, an 18yo should have around 50 TSP at the start of the year, and for every year above 18 the player should have around 10 more skillpoints. As said, this is a rough guideline because if the player has great secondary skills he can have lower TSP, and if he is trained only in primary skills or only driving/handling he'll need more skills to be worthwhile. Potential is a bit less important if you're not too familiar with training; anything from allstar and higher can be worthwhile to train, the lower the potential the more diverse you need to train though.

Thanks for the responses the point on TSP was especially helpful as I didn't really have a general rule / range to go by...

But one other question, in the past I've had a handful of lower TSP players who seem to be productive whenever I play them - when I think I've found a player like this is there any merit to keeping him or will a higher TSP player almost always be better?

Is it worth going POP hunting on JR, OD, PA - or should I just go back to my 3-4 week big man training schedule of: IS / REB / SB* / ID?

*Eventually going to cut out of training schedule, but have a few other players who benefit from SB training right now.

I love your player,

I would train his inside skills all up till 11.
than 1-1 till handling is 12.
than passing till 12 and OD till 8.

And than train the rest of the big man skills as you like till he caps. Remember that SB is counting less to his potential cap than in the past.

Only in the dark, we succeed!
