He'll be a long term project. If you were in Div IV still I'd say it would be a great pick up, but you can't put him in as a starter for training in Div III. With average OD you'll get stomped.

So until he gets some decent OD your best bet would be to train him in your cup/scrimmage games and make sure he gets the full 48 minutes per game.

Thanks for the advice.

What level outside defense should i get him to before i can make him a starter in league games?

Also could you let me know what type of training does what for guards i.e what does one on one do? etc

Thanks.

Proficient - Prominent would be minimum for this league at least. Maybe Strong OD at the very least.

^ that link says what the training does and how long it takes.

Thanks heaps.

I got another 18 year old guard that has respectable OD already. I will focus on OD until I get to Proficient with all my trainee guards.

What skills should I focus on other than OD?

Depends on your trainees skills.

You'll want a bit of passing on each your trainees as they'll be playing PG most of the time for training purposes. Higher passing = Higher offensive flow and less turnovers.

Good handling is also important for less turnovers, and if you want them to score you better train jumpshot, and if you want them to hit threes, then train jump range. Takes a while but you train those aspects and you eventually get a great player. Good luck!

Hey Swendle sorry to rain on your parade but there was a reason you got that guy for $1 you have missed. Average OD is fine, I just paid $400,000 for a guy with average OD. But he is brutally reduced in value by his awful JS. You could get a guy for about $10,000 with respectable JS. It will take you about 8-10 weeks of training to get there. But that isn't the killer. The slowest skill to train up in the entire game is JR and he has atrocious! To get that to respectable will take somewhere up to 18 weeks. Add them together and you will then have spent two seasons of training to get him to the standard of a guy you could pick up right now for minimal cost. He will be 20 and the standard of an 18 year old and ill never reach his superstar potential so he may as well be a starter or a hall of famer, it wont matter for him unless you keep training him until he is 25.

Sorry, but instead invest a little more get a great Aussie trainee for $100,000 and you will be much better in the long run. I am not allowed to name players on the forums but I think you would be better off with soeone else.

Okay could i get some advice about getting a pg then?

What should be the minimum stats for OD, JS & JR?

Also is passing and handling important to begin with? I see that you can train them up quite quickly.
