Round 3

Hope nobody minds me jumping in to do the reports, I mentioned it to someone this week. So here it is.

Amos Rogues Vs Geelong Vipers. 76-38
The undefeated Rogues fronted up against the Vipers, and tipsters could have predicted a one sided affair, and tipsters would have been right. With great defending guards and a 3-2 defence, Amos Rogues squeezed the life out of the Vipers and ran away comfortable winners. Geelong Vipers stank it up from the floor, shooting a dismal 13-83 FGs. Rogues had larceny on their mind with 11 steals. Zyler's boys move to 3-0 and Matt's boys have a bit of work to do, winless and second bottom on the table.

3 Votes - Amos Rogues - Angelo Ciceri 29 points 9 rebounds 1 steal
The Italian sharpshooter had his eye in shooting 10-19 for 29 points from just 27 minutes of court time.9 reds and 1 steal capped off a good allround effort from the veteran. Both teams combined shot a poor 43 of 170, so Ciceri picked his shots well and was an economical offensive weopon.

2 Votes - Amos Rogues - Li Runkang 10 rebounds 7 blocks 4 assists 6 points 24 minutes.
The impressive Rungkang continued his solid form with an outstanding defensive effort. The big Chinaman had more rejections than a poor man at a strip club turning up 7 blocks. 10 rebounds was the third highest in the game and he shot 3-5 from the floor to make the most of limited chances down low.

1 vote - Amos Rogues - Shad Crous 14 rebs 3 steals 2 assists 4 points
Big Shad was a demon in the paint, helping keep the two Vipers C's to 4 points between them. Coupled with a game high 14 rebounds and 3 steals meant he was no one trick pony. A key to the good result for the team.

Western Titans Vs Brisbane Thunder 95-38

Another one sided affair saw Robhoe's Titans butt heads with Leeroy's Brisbane Thunder. Titans got the early jump to lead 24-11 at quarter time, and managed to increas their lead as the game went on. The Thinder got their tactics badly wrong, rolling the dice with the 1-3-1 zone, but the big men from the Titans had a picnic in the paint with their Look Inside tactic creating havoc.

3 Votes - Western Titans - Uditi Samdup. 20 Points 16 Rebs 6 Blocks 3 Assists. Double Double
The highly paid Aussie was dynamic down low to shoot 10-14 from the floor. With a salary 80k higher than his direct opponent, it was boys against men in the paint and Samdup was unstopable at both ends.

2 votes - Western Titans - Norbert Carey 15 points 12 rebs (5or) Double Double
Wayne's brother formed a dynamic duo with Samdup knocking in 15 points from just 24 minutes of court time. His power forward partner in crime, Filho also had 10 points and 15 rebs for a double double.

1 vote - Brisbane Thunder - Ng Ting Yu 12 points 9 rebs (5or) 4 assists 2 steals 3 blocks
Charity vote goes to Ting from Brisbane Thunder, ho depite being hopelessly overmatched, tried hard to put to gether a nice stats line. The Budget PF was strong at both ends with blocks and steals to go with his assists and points.

I could close my eyes and make more than 13 shots from 83 attempts. Disgraceful.

Mangoloids Vs Shepparton Shooters 60-69

The injury hampered Mangoloids put up a fight against the tough Shepparton Shooters with their big name PF Viojan in form. Both teams ran with Look inside / 3-2 zone, setting up a clash down low with the key men Viojan and Mangoloid Mabutol going at it in the paint. Scores were level up until half time, but despite Viojan fouling out again, Shooters were too strong running out 9 point winners. MVP leader Luke McCaskie was well held with a season low 4 points.

3 Votes - Shepparton Shooters - Junel Viojan 20 points (9-14 fg) 17 rebounds, 4 blocks, 6 Fouls. - Double Double

Ezyfrag's go to guy was again effective on offense shooting 64%, and collecting a game high 17 rebounds, including 4 ORs. Big Vio also had 4 blocks, and despite fouling out, did enough to steer his team to victory.

2 Votes - Mangoloids - Safronio Mabutol 27 points, 14 rebs, 2 blocks. - Double Double

With regular Mangoloid PF Arbizu on the injury list, Mabutol has to carry much of the load for Mangoloids and delivered on offense with 27 points. 14 rebs capped off a good night for the Big Phillipino.

1 vote - Shepparton Shooters - Máximo Sáenz Aragón 10 points 7 assists 9 TO's

Despite his poor shooting and mountain of turnovers, Aragon gets the nod for the one vote for a great defensive effort on Luke McCaskie who finished with 2-18 shooting. In a low scoring game defensive pressure like that is gold and the Spainiard will be excused for his fumbles.

Eggplantpopolopolous Vs Possum Chassers 84-68

The Div 2 Eggplants faced up to TT's Possumn Chasers, which on paper looked to be a evenly matched affair. The game lived up to the billilling with a tight first quarter, after which the Eggplants took control to be up by 25 at the end of the third. A junk time rally by the Possum Chasers put some respeciability back into the scoreline.

3 Votes - Eggplants- Helmuts Paluka 11 points 8 rebs 5 assists (29 minutes)

The young Poing Guard was dynamic putting up a well rounded stats line with limited minutes. 4 Offensive rebounds was a top shelf return for a PG and he kept the opposing PG's Jarvis and Gellletta to just 6 points between them. 5-11 shooting gave his team solid reward for effort.

2 votes - Eggplants - Gorka Bazztarrika 11 points, 13 rebounds - Double Double

Another double double for the in form Spaniard, shooting 5-8 from the field and keeping the Australian U21 star Trinh Trinh to just 14.

1 vote - Possum Chasers - Simeon Cacho 16 points, 15 rebounds - Double Double

Big Cacho tried hard in the paint for the Possumn Chasers with a team high 16 points and a game high 15 rebounds. 2 steals and 1 block showed up some good defending against some high salaries opponents.

Bainsynators Plebs Vs Home Axis 61-101

On paper, all Home Axis needed to do was to show up to win this one, and the Axis didn't dissapoint their fans. With the powerhouse Irunel Stancu in brutal form, the Plebs were swept aside easily.

3 Votes - Home Axis - Irunel Stancu 40 points 28 rebounds - Double Double

The tall Romanian had a picnic inside, knocking in 18-24FGs and dominating the boards with 28 rebounds. 3 steals and a block capped a dominant display.

2 votes - Home Axis - Paco Garrido 27 points 7 assists 4 steals.

Garrido was the dominant small man on the court, in a game with the big men the focus. Shooting 10-21 was a good return and keeping his direct opponent to just 10 points 0 assists, sealed the votes.

1 vote - Bainsynators Plebs - Xavier Suelves 24 points, 18 rebs - Double Double

The giant Suelvez held his own for his overmatched team. 6 Offensive boards and two steals were examples of his hussle.

Maggots Vs Whomp's Donkeys 91-105

The final game of the round in the South was an entertaining scrap between Maggots and fellow battlers, Whomp's Donkeys. The match was a four quarter arm wrestle, with the Maggots hanging in there all day, but superior rebounding and better shooting helped the Donkeys edge to a hard fought 14 point win, with the Maggots not disgraced.

3 Votes - Whomps Donkeys - Jordi Monroig 27 points 13 rebs 2 blocks - Double Double

Big Jordi was solid as always in the key for the Donkeys. Doing the ABC's that every coach needs. He was also solid on D, helping to keep the Maggots Centres to just 9 points between them. Solid, inconspicuous and reliable.

2 Votes - Maggots - Christian Brackenhoff 35 points 5 assists 2 rebounds 4 three pointers, 0 Turn Overs

Going head to head with the dangerous Dewey Bowers, THe Hoff was dynamic on offense with 35 points and 5 assists. He also kept the free scoring Bowers to 7 points. Shooting 15-28 kept his team in the game.

1 Vote - Whomps Donkeys - Ignacia Santana 23 points 18 rebounds 2 blocks

The Spanish U21 prospect continued to enhance his CV with a solid all round effort. 6 offensive rebounds provided plenty of second chance possessions for the Donks.

Round 4

Maggots vs. Geelong Vipers 65 - 99

Vipers coach Matt1986 was ecstatic about the victory and had this to say agter the game, 'It is a relief to get our first Private League victory... hopefully the boys dont party too hard that they can't challenge Possum Chasers next week'. Maggots were only really in this game for a quarter until the Vipers took over.

3 votes - Geelong Vipers - François Cartier - 24 pts 17 rebs 6 asts

The big Frenchman had a game high in rebounds and was pivotal in the Vipers inside game. With 6 dimes aswell Cartier hand a hand in alot of the trips for his team and was the most influential player in this one.

2 votes - Geelong Vipers - Ace Dispo - 13 pts 8 rebs

Not much happening in this game individual performance wise apart from Cartier. Disco was shooting just over 50% from the field and picking up a couple of steals and assists in the process.

1 vote - Maggots - Christian Brakenhoff - 29 pts Rating 10.0

Brak is still the only Maggot to put up a fight scoring the game high 29 points. The margin and the costly shooting by 'the hoff' costs him the 2 in this one shooting only 12-32 from the field, however managing to be a bit more efficient from beyond the arc with 5-13 from long.

Mangoloids vs. Western Titans 66 - 104

The depleted Mangoloid lineup was no match for the dominant Titans outfit. With both sides playing PtB the perimiter defense for the Titans was far superior to that of their opponent.

3 votes - Western Titans - Bento Filho - 11 pts 14 rebs 6 OR

Bento did all of his work in only 28 mins. He was big on the boards pulling down more than his counterpart Samdup at C. His hustle on the offensive end was impressive also giving his team 6 more attempts at second chance points.

2 votes - Mangoloids - Sofronio Mabutol - 24 pts 18 rebs

Mabutol was the best point getter and rebounder on the night. He battled hard for the Mangoloids to keep the score and the rebounding stat respectable but it was not enough to stop this one being a blowout.

1 vote - Western Titans - Konstantine Shavgulidze - 17 pts 3 rebs 4 asts 2 stls

Konstantine picks up 1 here for his all-round performance shooting an efficient 7-12 fg's and hitting 2 of those from deep. Doing a little bit of everything he was able to keep the ball secure for the entire 28 mins he was on the court with 0 turnovers.
