Round 18 of the TV game show (Match Prediction Contest) is done and dusted. It started looking like a high scoring tactical affair, but was held to reasonable numbers due to stifling defenses.

Winner: The Mighty Moose Rockets got off to a good start up by 18 at half, and holding that lead through 3 quarters. The Dark Matter put a little more juice in at the end but were unable to surmount the early lead. Rockets win 117-103.

Summary: Wild thing is the reverse of last week took place with the Dark Matter getting 16 more shot attempts, but really struggled to make their shots going 36% from the field and 25% from 3pt range. Meanwhile the Rockets were 46% from the field and almost the same from behind the arc. Furthermore the Matter outrebounded the Rockets 63 to 47, and a startling outplay of 24 to 7 in the offensive rebounding category. Unfortunately, it became apparent which way the wind was blowing when those second chance opportunities were as futile as their first attempts. That isn't to say the starting 5 for the Matter weren't impressive, but any relief off the bench was really lacking. With most of the Matter's bench players putting up negative plus/minus stats.

Questions: So what does this mean for the league? Dark Matter are back in 4th. The Rockets still wear the crown and look to be the team to beat. This may be a future first round matchup in the Big 8 playoffs. Though this did give the Archers a chance to build up their point differential.

Final Score: Mighty Moose Rockets 117 @ Dark Matter 103

As for next gameday its A DOUBLE GAMEDAY...

Saturday 5/18/2024 8:00:00 PM 5th Place Hasting Hornets @ 4th Place Archers of Loafcross

Summary: These two were old leagues mates back in III.16. They were in different conferences back then and the Hornets were the KC Regulators. These two have the most history and thus this is a rivalry match for both teams. So fan surveys will come into play.

Injury/Transfers: No recent transfers or injuries. (Will try to update if I see anything new before gameday)

Last Matchup: Their history stands at Archers 3 wins to Hornets 1 win. That 1 win though was their last matchup early this season where the Hornets won at home, 109-99. The previous 3 for the Archers was from their shared 3 seasons in III.16 back in season 55 to season 57, when the Archer promoted to D2.

Ramifications: A loss right now doesn't spell disaster, but the Hornets are gonna want to converse energy as they are likely missing out on a playoff spot. Meanwhile Archers are neck and neck with the Dark Matter and if they can stay in the driver seat they may have an easier matchup against the Dragons rather than the Rockets in the first round of the playoffs.

Saturday 5/18/2024 8:00:00 PM 6th Place Slabs @ 5th Place Bananahorns

Summary: A big matchup here! The River Monsters are gonna slink down the table now that they are bot and that means one more safe spot to whoever can race to grab 4th place the fastest. Both teams are within striking distance, but they are each gonna need at least two more won games of the 4 left to play to overcome the River Monsters.

Injury/Transfers: No injuries or recent transfers. (Will try to update if I see anything new before gameday)

Last Matchup: These two have only played once against each other and it was the TV game earlier in the season. The Bananahorns won away by 14 with a score of 127-113.

Ramifications: Depending on how each manager intends to go for 4th. We may see a lot of crunch time games from these Great 8 clubs to end the season. Conversely if one of the relegation sides in the Big 8 sees a chance for an easy matchup against River Monsters in a relegation series, we may see some throws to try to make sure they get that coveted matchup.

I think b/c you guys are both each other rivals the game is more important than the average game for both of you because it will directly impact the fan survey results ("The team played well in our last game against xyz, our hated rival"), which directly impacts income.

Exactly, the fan survey can affect ticket sales. Which can be big at the end of the season like this especially since this may be the last time most teams will play their rivals until next season. Making this arguably the most financially impactful single game result you will likely have for 5 maybe 6 financial updates.

Not earth shattering, but if you like to min/max your team good results on games like this can help.

I was going to say you held some power with your game tonight. Try to arrange it in a way so my guess finishes last, but I have the only guess so far. Come on people, it's never to late to add your guess!

I think they are seeing the leaderboards and assuming this competition is basically in the bag.
