I don't like Port Adelaide so I'll join your side.

No fanny 3 on 1 isnt a fair fight.....plus shanmag (Sub-zero) needs a small child to beat on cause shes a female!

Where did this Port Adelaide business come from? They might as well be a different state. Ick.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh i just thought id make it more interesting and say Port Adel to provoke a reaction ahhhhhhhh mission accomplished. I also dont doubt its a good place but i have never heard anyone say Adelaide is the mecca of food???

Oh, definitely. The food here is amazing. d'Arrys at d'Arenberg is one of the best restaurants you'll find in Australia, and we have awesome italian, greek and asian restaurants everywhere. And because our city is small, if you're staying in a hotel in the city here, you can walk to any sort of restaurant you want, because they're close by. And we do have the premiere wine regions in Australia, too - Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills.... as someone who loves good food and good wine, I wouldn't trade this place for almost anything :D

I have only had the privilege to sample the Dead Arm a few times, but definitely enjoyed it when I had it! d'Arenberg puts out awesome wines, and they've got such a wide variety too, pretty much anyone should be able to find something they like. Also love Peter Lehmann's Eight Songs Shiraz - usually about $40-$50 but drinks more like a $70-$80. Grab yourself some of that if you haven't had any.

Down the cheaper end, the Kalleske Pirathon (spelling?) Shiraz and the Yalumba "The Scribbler" are top drops - "The Scribbler" apparently came about because they had a bunch of fruit for their Signature Series, but it wasn't quite good enough - so they created "The Scribbler" (get it? Signature - Scribbler?). So it's got fruit originally intended for a $100 bottle of wine, and it's $20. Awesome stuff.

Guys it isn't close. After Hong Kong and maybe Shanghai or Paris, Melbourne has the best food in the entire world.

Melbourne, Australia
The Botanical, the Koko, the Vue de Monde... some argue that Melbourne is the food capital of Australia, and for good reason. Melbourne is host to some of the most fantastic dining establishments in the world, and might just have more restaurants than any other city on the continent. Its strong fashion sense and sharp clientele demand a classy dining experience and only the tastiest cuisine can last in a city with such competition. Award winners abound in central Melbourne, so any visit here is unlikely to disappoint.

I live about 40 minutes drive from the Barossa. I have sampled the Basket Press many times :) I highly recommend you come and tour for a few days. Besides the wine, it is just a beautiful area to drive through, and there are so many little boutique wineries through here that you may not have heard of, but are well worth a visit. Oh, and Seppeltsfield is here - home of the 100 Year Old Para Tawny Port. Old man Seppelt was a bright bugger, he put a barrel of his best port away each year to be opened in 100 years. It's the only wine to have ever scored a 100 in James Halliday, I think (although I tend not to care too much about wine reviews, that's still pretty significant). Ahhh, I love Seppeltsfield - the 21 year old Para is about $80 and that's just an incredible drop, if you like the fortifieds.

Also, guys - girls go NUTS for the Rockford Alicante Bouchet. If you ever want to impress a girl, get her a bottle of that. I find it's a bit overpriced for what it is since there's several cheaper roses that taste pretty much identical (i.e. Turkey Flat) but girls go nuts for the stuff, and it has a good name.
