Today we get some insight into bigsmart, the manager of the 18-0 Sydney Sea Eagles in III.5

1. Inspiration for team name? Manly fan?
well a Rosters fan really but like Manly too - basically spend a lot of time over there at the weekend (live in Mosman)

2. This being your 10th season in III.5, do you think that you have finally worked out what it takes to win this division?
yep dont get injuries, been close a few times but again like this season money is tight and may have to let a player go. Think we have stayed where we have for the past x seasons teams stronger than us have gone up and havent seen them come back - not sure the team would hold its own in Div 2 though.

3. Who is your favourite player on your team?
the only guy to come up from the draft is Mahon (10839781) the rest have been brought in - suppose Swierski (8212069) been around the longest.

4. Would you rather promote by winning the title or are you fine with a bot cleanup promotion?
win it for sure

5. Who in your view is your biggest challenge for the title?
injuries! more from own

6. Having only been put to the test on 3 occasions this season, winning by less than 10. Will you look to add any more strength to your team before playoffs?
no more buys as running very thin on money - might even have to sell someone to stop going bust

7. Favourite NBA team?
none, stopped watching it years ago

8. What is your favourite aspect of this game?
winning, no its fairly straight forward to play but not that easy to make money - well I dont seem to - but I like it as its low maintenance game really

9. Black Label Society or Whitebeard to win the Aussie Battlers Tournament?
White

10. If you make it to Division II next season, do you have ambitions to Fight or Tank?
Fight of course

There you go, The Sea Eagles will be fighting hard to reign supreme in III.5, we can only hope that success will ease their money woes.

Good Luck Bigsmart!

Tonight we head over to III.8 where we have a top of the table match.

Coin Collectors (18-0) vs. Unbeatables (16-2)

The Coin Collectors will head into this game as favourites, however they have both their C's up for sale after the game. Giving away knowledge of their skills right before their biggest conference match, is a little bit of a strange move, unless they are extremely confident of the 'W'

There is no doubt that Cai Wenyu will be one of the players to cause the Unbeatables some grief, Wenyu is in some fine form, averaging 21.8 PPG from 33.0 MPG in his last 5 games. Not to mention that Wenyu has been a focal point in the 6 previous meetings between the two sides averaging 16.5PPG against the Unbeatables.

Meanwhile for the Unbeatables, the obvious danger-man is Hasmawi Mahmood. Mahmood has averaged 16.3 PPG and 15.0 RPG against the Coin Collectors in the past, and is in similarly good nick recently with 65% shooting in his last 5 games.

With some good GS compared to some of the Coin Collectors players, it all depends on whether the Unbeatables can find more avenues to the basket than just Mahmood. HCA also gives them a slight leg up on the opposition. It was hard to tip this game but i think the Coin Collectors might be in too good, and hold Mahmood to less than 20 points.

My Prediction: Coin Collectors by 12

Maggots (18-0) vs. Branny (15-3)

We dont hear much about III.13, we just assume Maggots is in control and that is that. However that is not entirely true. The Maggots have a powerhouse side, that much is obvious. However Branny does have two 87k bigs along with a handy guard in Erich Vonk.

Vonk could prove pivotal for Branny. His ability to feed the massive salaried big men is what makes him so instrumental in this lineup. Being in proficient GS for the game is exactly what he needs to try and swing the game in his teams favour.

The biggest worry Branny should have is that their SG Assrof Bin Sulog is in average GS. Especiially considering the strength of the Maggots guards.

With awesome GS across the board for the Maggots players, flip a coin on who is going to be the most instrumental. Brakenhoff, Ostermann, Rasit Düs, Garbett, Nguyên and Gomez. They are all so strong, it is difficult to see Branny winning this one even with their fairly strong lineup. Had they been in some of the other division 3's they may be a championship team.

Even with HCA for this game i have to tip the Maggots

My Prediction: Maggots by 19

Is there a better team in Division III? i am not sure there is.

dont think i will push for it this season will aim for another win then sell up and take 4th or 5th. But the winner of my conference will come from either Storm or Mayhem i think MTbreds may have some money cashed up though

like i said. throw a blanket over them at this point. My bro i think is about out of moves. It will be interesting viewing.

I tell you what else is interesting viewing ladies and gentlemen. that is seeing how our two highlight matches went.

Coin Collectors vs. Unbeatables 97 - 87 (42969466)

This was interesting as the Coin Collectors invested more enthusiasm in this game than Unbeatables. This tells us either CC was worried about dropping a chance at bot promotion and CT'd or Unbeatables recognized that a win would achieve nothing in terms of HCA over CC so thought they would stock some enthusiasm. If that was the case then it also tells us that they are pretty confident that they dont need HCA against the Melbourne Demons should they make the Finals Series.

Interesting times ahead in III.8

Maggots vs. branny 83 - 95 (42970348)

What's more interesting is III.13 now that the Maggots have shown they are beatable. Vonk was huge in this game dropping a game high 32 points off 50% shooting. There was a clear omission from this game and that was the ever dangerous Brakenhoff at SF. Although despite missing Brakenhoff the Maggots still fielded a very strong lineup. Some questions spring to mind here. Will Brakenhoff make the difference if he plays in the PO's? Will Branny be able to repeat that performance inevitably on the Maggots home court in the PO's

Playoffs are going to be soooooooooo mad in Div III this season. We are running out of undefeated teams.

Round 19 Update

1. (1) Wagadugu Hippopotamuses 19 0 PD 842 (III.12)
2. (2) GC Vikings 19 0 PD 721 (III.3)
3. (4) Urmummas 19 0 PD 668 (III.11)
4. (5) TeamAkuma 19 0 PD 639 (III.6)
5. (6) Coin Collectors 19 0 PD 565 (III.8)
6. (7) tannum tantrums 19 0 PD 543 (III.1)
7. (8) Sydney Sea Eagles 19 0 PD 491 (III.5)
8. (9) Vis Maior 18 1 PD 833 (III.12)
9. (10) Southern Breakers 18 1 PD 660 (III.15)
10. (3) Maggots 18 1 PD 612 (III.13)
11. (11) West Indies 18 1 PD 570 (III.10)
12. (13) Jindera Strikers 18 1 PD 485 (III.14)
13. (14) Popenpop 18 1 PD 454 (III.2)
14. (15) South Gisborne Storm 18 1 PD 440 (III.9)

Dropping Off:
atrains (III.7) - Sonic Booms vs. atrains 105 - 93 (42969293)

So we have narrowed it down to 14 teams. 7 on 19-0 and 7 on 18-1.

It is almost certain that the team promoted from the bot cleanup will come from these 14 very classy teams.

Things continue to become a little more interesting each round

+1 Bainsy. Personally, I'd wager that the team promoted via the BOT cleanup will come from the top 7...

EDIT: Scratch that...the top 2! Why? GC Vikings will NOT lose a game this season. That means that only a team with a loss-less season and higher point difference can stop him from winning the BOT cleanup...

...enter Hippos! White Maggot, Urmummas and Akuma can not bridge that point difference...

Hey Bains,

He TIE'd.
I know Unbeatables have a tough team, especially in our little III.8
But I knew that I could beat him again.
Yes he TIE'd and I norm'd but he had HCA.
so makes it about even really.

I don't think I'm going to need to go undefeated and rely on bot promotion, sure it would be nice.
but I'm too far off hippos and GC Vikings to catch up now.
But I haven't made my final move towards promotion just yet. Waiting to see how a few things play out.

Anyways, this has been a really good read. :)

cheers for that bit of insight.

at least with Maggots losing you move a step closer. And if Hippos lose to Vis Maior, i wouldn't mind guessing that it will be you or Tannum who is promoted by the bot cleanup

Lol, KC, you don't have that much money. :P
I think Unbeatables will actually prove worthy of their name come playoffs.
and you'll be stuck in div3 for another season.

prove me wrong el-retardo
