It will probably be 5. 2 automatic. 2 from the relegation series (1 being rice eaters as i think they fall far enough). 1 from bot cleanup (TT). Still ample opportunity for great regular season D5 teams that got beat by a fluke in the playoffs.

The only teams who deserve promotion are the league champions. Any other promotions are a gift.

It might not be fair being stuck in a tough league, but it seems to make you a better BB player. Look at some of the teams who promote out of these tough leagues. They end up promoting to II right away because of how strong they are.

But that's not the point. The intended way to promotion is winning the league championship. The fact that there is cleanup due to turnover is necessary, but not a given.

Everyone wants to promote. I see threads where people ask if they will be able to promote based on record. All that hope in the cleanup is misplaced. At some cutoff line, the almost made it team will miss promotion, and say, I deserved to promote!
It's a false sense of entitlement. If you looked at the last team in and the first team out, would the one who promoted really be that much better than the one that didn't?

Having to wait until next season to promote isn't lost on me. I tried to beat an established IV in my first season up, and got my ass handed to me in the playoffs. I can relate to your example. That team went undefeated and promoted, and I had to play another season in IV. It made me better. I didn't deserve to promote because I wasn't the best team in MY league.

If you want to analyze all the teams who got stuck behind juggernauts, and had claw their way out of tough competition, go for it. It will happen every season. But don't tell me they deserve to get cleanup promotion based on their league strength. That's just undervaluing to teams who planned out their championship runs carefully albiet in weaker leagues. Their championships aren't a sham.

Besides, the men are separated from the boys through promotion, when the teams that weren't ready fall right down. The ones that got knocked around a bit in tough leagues usually stay up.

I think this team is a perfect example. They had to play an IV league team that was already putting up multiple proficient's in games and didn't promote. Looking back at their games though and their standings they deserved to promote more then 1/3 of the teams that promoted by winning the championship in easier leagues. They finished 19-3 with a plus 600 something point difference. You cant honestly that this team didn't deserve to promote over some of these other teams can you?

It is unfortunate. On the other hand, each season if they're not the best team in their league, one will promote to replace them. If they're good enough to be at the next level, they should be able to beat out the team that relegates, so they should get their chance and when they go up, they'll be in great shape. But once the game gets out of the business of having promotions be earned by winning titles and goes toward the game trying to evaluate subjectively what the best teams are, the game is diminished.
