so salaries is the only thing we rate teams and conferences on now?

i would say it doesnt mean shit cause better managers can better run teams with lower salaries.. give me 2.1 red side over 2.2 or 2.4 any day of the week.. they night not have the big salaries, but there are some damn good managers in those leagues... (not saying 2.1 red guys are crap, but i would rate the man running the team over the size of the salary any day of the week...)

I agree. :-)

then how do you rate their managers better than ours?? both 2.2 and 2.4 red sides managers are in the same division as the 2.1 red side managers. so how do you distinguish between the managers in those conferences being better than the managers in mine? what kind of parameters do you go off?

Everyone knows I hate to support Bainsy but it is very hard to compare teams and I have to back him up here. I like to use the method they used to use in the Big Boys Banter, Max Bbstats, but there has been much debate in the ABBL forums about them. The next best? World/Australian Rankings are worthless. Salary is the obvious next best thing. Flawed? Yes. Misleading? Potentially. Better than pure opinion? Certainly.

I think the only real way to rate a manger is to see what they want to achieve before the season, then watch them manage (or mismanage) that goal, and see of they achieve it at the end of the season.

I am sure there are managers who have cpmpletely different goals each season. I know I have aimed for 5th on the past, aimed to win, aimed to get into the finals, ained to train a certain player a certain way.

See if managers achieve their goals, and how much it cost them to do it.

the discussion isnt about who is the best and who is the up and coming.. it is about the strength of specific divisions within leagues... average salaries for a league to me do not mean a league is weak or strong. each individual team needs to be judged on merit, not an overall average salary...

lets look at the great 8 -2 teams have under 200k salaries, hence dropping the league average in the ass, whereas the lowest salary in the big 8 is 270k, over 100k higher than the lowest in the great.. as a result, yes you have similar average salaries, but the top end of the great 8 is far stronger than that in the big 8...

bainsy and i have discussed this offline... i look at a conference strength from the top down.. he looks at it from the bottom up.. of course we are going to get 2 very different opinions... which 1 is right?

Conference strength is really about who is or who is not tanking that season, and how much they have in reserve down the line.

Lets be honest, new bloods (myself included) do not have the financial benefits of having been in D2 or the ABBL for seasons and seasons. Cashed up teams with massive arenas would always be considered stronger IMO.

Thus, I reckon the strength of D2 conferences can be judged by how many seasons in D2 or the ABBL each team has had.

Both are right.
Take for example. A super power like USA, do you judge its wealth by its citizens or do you judge it by how it treats its most underprivileged people?

Same with china, for every millionaire theres as many living in poverty.
