Kobe is the man now, after the activities outside of basketball in Colorado subsided, I think Kobe was able to win over a lot of fans, myself included. I loathed Kobe back in the Shaq/Kobe days, but now I am a Kobe fan and respect the guy after he was able to win a c'ship without a fellow HOF player. So I wouldn't say he is a hated superstar any more, LeBron definitely takes the cake on that one ;)

I don't want to get into the "what if" debate, if we go down that route, because if we do then how about we take Scottie Pipper out of the Bulls? Would MJ have had the opportunity to shine like he did and become the great player he is?
Gasol is a good player but you can't hold it against Kobe and say that he only won because of Pau.

MJ was definitely not a one-man team
I think over time his legacy has become legendary, and facts become blurred because of that, but put MJ in a team without any decent support and I don't think he can win, I don't think anyone could
Every superstar needs a b!tch hahaha

MJ had a fellow hall of famer with him for 6 championships. Kobe didn't have a HOF for his back to back c'ships. Gasol is a good player but I doubt he will ever be considered a HOFer.
When MJ retired Scottie was able to take the Bulls to the Conference Finals and losing to the Knicks. When Gasol was with Memphis the best he could do was get them to the First Round of the playoffs.
So based on that, MJ had it better with one of the SF's to play the game alongside him through 6 c'ships.
