Week 3 is now done and dusted and it's the Guppies once again sitting on top of the fishbowl with no one else in sight. The Calamari and sharks are battling it out for second place while Kevin are all alone on the bottom no doubt digging for treasure. A few close games this week Slammers vs JW, Cowboys from Hell vs Seagulls, Mangoloids vs Shepparton Shooters. But most notably our match of the round ;)

Match of the Round
CROCKERS vs. Rampaging Marmots 101 - 100

Oh dear where do I begin. This was a classic Inside vs Outside battle with the lead changing hands numerous times, the biggest lead was 11 points in the 2nd quarter held by The CROCKERS but the Marmots brought it back to single digits in time for the half time break. From there on it was neck and neck point for point. Well done to the Marmots for getting to the line 18 times and fouling out 2 of the CROCKERS players. It was just not meant to be for the RabidCamel on this night being forced to foul on a dunk by Ante Vidmar when it was tied at 100 a piece with 0:00 left in the 4th quarter. Ante Vidmar missed his first free throw before sinking his last and sealing the game for the bevers. Great effort by both teams this week and I hope to see some more cracker games on the table next week.

Awards
The balls of steel award goes to Mr. Ante Vidmar who put up the winning free throw with no time on the clock.

First I have to confess that I don't have a spreadsheet for these this season so I just did these fast by hand. I hope there are no mistakes. Hard to see any trends when we haven't had ladders for so long and sorry I had my finger off the pulse for so long, every spare minute on BB was going to India for ages but now that is mostly settled.

Well as expected the Guppies are the strongest and it starts at the top with teams like Black Label and Zazz leading the way. The Calamari are close thanks to three strong performers, Baxter Bogans leading the West, the Cowboys one of the top two teams in the East and the powerful Titans in the South. The Sharks are struggling in the West but make up quite a bit in the East where SASTROOPERS and Da Fat Boy Slim and doing very well. Fianlly after narrowly coming second last season Kevin have sunk to the bottom, no surprise their top teams are performing well but their lack of depth shows and a good draft pick next season will be needed to even things up.

Well that is it for this week Fishbowl fans. I have tried to get things going early and I will be hassling the other guys to get everything caught up as soon as possible.

Well there has been quite a bit of movement in the last two weeks. After dominating the entire season now, with just two weeks to go the Guppies have lost the lead to the surging Calamari. These last two weeks will be critical as these two teams battle for the Fishbowl Cup and even one team having a couple of bad weeks (except for Naker Virus who can't get worse) could cause the Calamari to slip.

The Guppies are dominating the prestigious West and South but it is in the East where some of their teams ere in semi-rebuild mode that is the problem. However there is no oubting the awesome performances of their top teams Black Label Society (# 20 in world), Monkey Business and Zazzocalypse. Equally impressive is Home Axis in the South who has even knocked off the Titans who currently lead their division II. I would hate to be in their division III this season, oh whoops, lots of you are like Possum Chasers and Brisbane Thunder, and several of us are ex-division III.6 teams like Chumunga, Melbourne Goldfish, VictoriaMages and Chelsea Seagulls. What a league!

The game of the week this week was in the West where Billy Hoyles Boys took on the Baxter Bogans with the rights to challenge the Society in the finals at stake. With a solid win 90-75 here the Bogans have again shown their class (oxymoron?). Next week they take on Pancakes and the winner of that game is a virtual lock to to be playing the Society (who should beat Mages and Zazz fairly easily to qualify) in the prestigious West final. Forget the National Tournament, this is pressure!

The other big game of the week was probably in the East where Melbourne Goldfish battled Northcote Slammers which had possible severe ladder implications for both teams. Northcote took an impressive lead early 25-11 but from then on the Goldfish were swimming and ended up with a comfortable 99-85 win.

Two weeks to go and some big games to come Fishbowl fans. Can't wait to see the Pancakes v Bogans clash!

What an incredible week this one was with some massive games and some bizarre, or not, ones. Were the entire Guppy team tanking for draft picks or did they all have a party together and smoke some crack before setting their lineups? Whatever it was they had some floggings this week. None more extreme than Black Label Society (#18 in world) having his PG play C, his C play PG and the potential league MVP hardly play at all. which let the VictoriaMages steal this win.

Match of the Round
The game of the round was clearly Pancakes with Jam and Cream vs. Baxter Bogans 109 - 121 which I thought would determine second spot but now may determine the minor premier. What a game. With a minute and 7 seconds to go the Bogans were up by 6 when a certain well known player in this league from last season Plínio Couto Costa decided that this one wasn't over. He scores. He is fouled and scores again. He makes the great pass to tie the game. Ok he missed the game winner on the buzzer but he got the Pancakes to OT. Sadly the Pancakes had only dressed 6 players and when Efinger and Kuman fouled out the game turned into a farce and a lucky fan got the unusual chance to play for an ABBL team. PCC was left with 53 points but no win.

In the East the supposed match of the round the battle betwen the Chelsea Seagulls vs. SASTROOPERS turned into an ugly 45 - 81 blowout. Apparently having 2 of your 5 starters out injured and another in bad GS doesn't make for a well functioning team.

In the South a team even more decimated by injuries HomeAxis lost their top spot to the Titans when they couldn't scramble the Egg...or was it another part of the Guppy plan to have this man playing 48 minutes in the massive match?
