Hi.

Could anyone assist. I am wondering what is the difference between playing my guys with a sub/reserve. My starting PG has 9 stamina but my backup is weak. Would I be best setting the bench player as a sub or just reserve? What is the likely minute difference as I want to make sure he doesn't suffer exhaustion but I also don't want my bench players playing 14-16 minutes a game if preferable.

Thanks.

I've found playing my starter as the backup as well, then the sub as the reserve, gets the starter around 40mins a game.

So I set the lineup like this:

Starter - Starter - Sub

I can't imagine the starter hitting exhaustion playing 40mins (assuming it's not 40mins straight), especially with 9 stamina

But playing your starter 2 games a week with about 80-90 minutes in total will probably result und a lower gameshape than playing him 2 games with 70-75 minutes (36 minutes each as starter).

I only use that line up in games I expect to be close or I'm the small underdog. I wouldn't recommend doing that every game. Also could work if you anticipate a blowout win in the other game so the starter only plays 25ish minutes

This is something that probably no one knows at the moment....
There is too much confusion in this game currently about substitutions. It became problem to get 40 minutes full training....
I have problems with minutes every single game. Today reserve played 4 minutes in the first half, and it is too much in my opinion because there will be garbage time, now in 3rd quarter it is very questonable if my starting C will play 31 minute in the game as he needs to get full training.

Earlier if you set the team: starter-starter-backup you knew that starter will play 36 minutes if there is garbage time, now it is very problematic.
Also it is problematic for game shape minutes. Another trainee is backup today and I set him as sub at pg and sg and reserve at C, but this player played already 15 minutes in the first half. With garbage time he will play more mintues than starters probably....

Earlier in this game, players from the bench played too few minutes, now they play too much. Especially because managers who train players cant train stamina, and players with higher stamina are able to play more minutes.

In the last game I lost by 17 points difference and backups played 28,24 and 2 minutes. Few months ago their minutes woul be 20,15,0.

With 9 players, you should have your PG position as blank, PG, PG; the rest of the players (the other 8) assigned somewhere.
That should allow you to get the full game for him (without fouling outs or injuries).

The old workaround still works perfect!

I had a blowout today (120900649) but my trainee got 48 minutes., lineup as follows

PG: P1 / P5 / P6
SG: P2 / P5 / P6
SF: P3 / P7 / P7
PF: P4 / P8 / P8
C: blank / Trainee / Trainee

Probably a question of generation, but the old workaround was given by @Eddy and it does not work anymore as we have substitution for the trainee to other positions or to the bench. At least on my last cup games, with a'rotation' strategy.

The new workaround is effectively to let a Blank as starter. It may or may not work, i've been using the other version for 10 years irl without any problem other than for free throws subs.

Wether it needs to be fixed or we need to change to a 'blank' as starter is another question.

That is what I stated before (in belief, that this is the old workaround).

It may or may not work …

For me it works for years now (except WOs, injuries, fouling out).

How does the @Eddy-workaround work?

Thanks for answering and for your question.

hmm not sure that we are totally talking of the same thing, or at the same pace or we might not be on the same page. As you answered, i'll try to close the gap.

I was talking of @eddy two messages before yours and he was using the:

My lineup (9players):
PG - starter-starter-starter
SG - starter-backup-n/a
SF - starter-backup-n/a
PF - starter-backup-n/a
C - starter-backup-n/a

and as i said, it does not work anymore to get your 48minutes. On this example for the PG. I don't mind changing but as we say old habits die hard, particularly when they should not have been impacted by any change that i know of. Unless that starting 'blank' has any sense to anyone.
