I was wondering what is the best defense to use against a run and gun team? Press them? Zone them or man them?

My answer is - it depends ;).

Pressing I think is the worst idea against fast tactics. It could be useful against slowers one.

3-2 is good when You have three outside players with high OD. IF You have only two and one with medicore OD then You should go for M2M and assign YOur best defenders to their best shooters.

I was expecting the contrary. Are you sure ?

You can try with a 3-2 zone or 1-3-1 against RNG.

This is where we hold them!

Dude, it will also depend a lot on the level of the players playing on the perimeter on the other side.

You hitting the focus for Perimeter and Quick - which is the setting for Run and Gun - is already quite helpful.

Using Pressure or 1-3-1 will greatly harm your defense, and therefore, no matter how hard you force your opponent's mistake, if they have a rebounding player face, it will increase their number of Offensive Bounces by not contributing much.

With Pressure you have the added bonus of having more stolen balls but in return your players will tire faster and the turnover will be higher - if you do not have a good back up it can be suicide as well.

If against who you are to play you only have 1 good perimeter player in this tactic, you can try putting Box-and-one perimeter and put your best Perimeter Defense player to score it even if you do not play in the same position - it is configurable in time of the escalation underneath [when you choose the escalating all-star] option, there have I want my ??? playing defensively like ... there you put the position of the best opponent player and this will not influence when you have attacking.

Example: if your best perimeter defender is your SG and his best attacker is an PG then you put your SG to score the PG but even when you attack it it will be SG.
Be aware that by making this change in the marking, your SG back up will also mark the AP. Be sure to be putting in this example your best back up perimeter defender as SG as well.

Now if the guy has more than 1 good perimeter player, you can even merge Zone 3-2 and put your best defender against the best player in his perimeter.

As the other users there said, it will depend a lot on the level of your cast and against who is playing. There are many interpretations

A good way to defend is also their attack tactic, Patience is the type of tactic that takes away the offensive rhythm of the opponent when he is apparently superior to yours, but if you do not have players with ball control and pass high, it will probably take a reversal also. While playing with fast tactics and your team does not have good jump shot, driving or inside shot, will be detrimental. Here in this case is to use Drive or one of the Isolations.

But, as said, it will depend a lot and a lot of factors.

Anything, I'm there, you can send BB-mail if you need it!

The problem with the Box and One is the designed best defender. If the engine pick a big men definitely it's not gonna work.

By the way, considering how weird would be finding a team playing R&G with only one valuable scorer from the outside, I would consider more seriously using the Box to defend the outside and the "one" to defend the best interior player. The only problem with the Box is having enough good players, the have to be versatile.

In general, I do believe 3-2 zone should be the easiest option (assuming having 3 players with OD is not so uncommon). 1-3-1 is too extreme, m2m is valuable but it depends how tough are the matchup created for your guys
