There are a few things here. First, my standard warning that points per 100 shots is only slightly less buggy than the forest full of spiders in the Harry Potter franchise.

Putting aside the PP100 thing, generally Patient is looking for the best matchup in terms of jump shooting (and I think range, too) but not inside scoring. There's actually a formula one of the more knowledgeable fellows posted (maybe Nachtmahr or the parrot, but I'm not sure) that hopefully someone with better bookmarks will remember and post. The inside shooting (which would in theory be heavily considered in PP100 if that was worth anything) doesn't matter a lick, so your designated shooter will either be your best jump shooter or, if the box and one put a really strong defender on him, maybe your second best jump shooter.

As far as the turnovers, it's because patient is a slow offense, so as opportunities to shoot arise, they have to be really good shot candidates to be taken, or else they'll try to pass it around some more to find a better shot. At the end of the shot clock, of course, *any* shot is better than a turnover so they try to get it to your designated shooter, who is frequently behind the three point line if you don't want him to be, and not behind the line if you do want him to be.

So, basically, because of the way patient works in the engine, none of the things you describe are atypical, although of course they run counter to what you might otherwise expect from the offense based on the description in the rules.
