Persepolis Immortals vs Koopasaurus. Buy-ups have made both of these teams formidable, and whilst Koop looks to be better on paper, we have to remember that Persepolis have HCA for games 1 and 3. I'm leaning towards Koop however, because he has 3 top-tier Aussie players who have never won an ABBL championship.

Speaking of which, famous Aussie players in the finals; Hahi Bin Awang playing for Persepolis, Jone Bogan, Kye Duffill, and Jackson Mansfield playing for Koopasaurus.

After digging through the archives again, I can tell you that if Koopasaurus wins the title, they would be the first ever #4 seed to win an ABBL championship. Only twice before has a #4 seed made it through to the finals; Aussieroos in Season 4, and Koopasaurus themselves in Season 19. Both teams lost their respective finals series in 3.

On the other hand, if Persepolis Immortals win, they become the first team ever to win the championship in their first ever ABBL season. The closest that any team has gotten before now is winning in their 2nd season; achieved by CoolCats (Season 4), WA IS A DUMP (Season 6), and Pancakes with Jam and Cream (Season 11).

WA IS A DUMP has won Division II and the ABBL in consecutive seasons before (13 and 14), but the fact that they had already won an ABBL title before then perhaps takes something away from that achievement...

Here's some trivia; this is the worst combined regular season record for two finals teams in ABBL history (14-8 Immortals, 13-9 Koop, 27-17 combined). The previous record was Season 19, when 16-6 Lewisham Wombats defeated 12-10 Koopasaurus (28-16 combined). 12-10 remains the worst single-team regular season record to make the finals.

Also, Jackson Mansfield played 23 regular season games this season, as a result of Koop selling him to Jutland Badgers during the season (who chose to start him as soon as he got off the plane), only to buy him back 10 days later when Koop changed his mind about selling up for the season.

I love those fun facts.

Wouldn't have picked up on Mansfield playing 23 regular season games for one season if it weren't for your research, that is indeed an anomaly =P

I really think that both teams have a 50/50 chance of winning it. Just kicking myself for not winning more league games to get that crucial HCA.

Either way, whoever wins will create history.

wow awesome facts +1 from me

& if any1 ever feels sympathy 4 koop about what happened 2 Radford in season 19 ask South Brisbane Vultures about the miracle luck koop had against them that amazingly knocked them out of the abbl & eventually made them go bot when they couldnt get back

relegation series in which koop had no chance
sbv smashed koop by about 20 g1 despite koop putting in more effort
threw g2 for the extra cash (turned out 2 be VERY foolish)
then g3 1 minute in their best player Skaistutis Urnežas who for the time was a total beast was injured out for the game so they were playing look inside & passing the ball 2 a scrub who scored an 11.0 & koop had an amazing 2 point win

just for comparason Skaistutis Urnežas scored a 16.5 rating grabbed 23 reb & 20 pts in g1 the next best player in the game got 15.5 he was clearly the best player in the series

but u gotta have depth

immortals were lucky 2 make the finals with 2 starters fouled out & 1 injured it was their bench + Hahi Bin Awang vs the stone slashers good thing awang balled like a boss 47 mins 19 pts 10 ast all top for the immortals

edit: also koop only made these finals by injuring the seagulls starting pg barton melmeth the seagulls were winning b4 that - dont get me wrong koop had the beter team but the seagulls were no slouch & had enthusiasm & hca advantages but without their pg koop got the win - yet more luck 4 him

Slight change - the Immortals would become the second team to win the title in their first ABBL season.

The Eagles won the first ever ABBL title, which of course was their first ABBL season ;). (They won a title after only playing two games in the ABBL, which is a record I doubt will ever be broken!)

The other interesting part about this series is it is only the second time there will not be a number 1 seed in the finals. The other time was season 8 when two number 2 seeds played off. So there you go...

Yups (32426138). That was such a pivotal game 3. Loser was bound to be stuck in the desolate lands for div2 for a long time. Winner would bask in the glory of the ABBL.

All I can say was Wazza, who was purchased for 3.9mil in that very season same was the difference =P. Came up with big plays in the crucial stages of the game.

Another fun fact is that in that season, 3-19 by Koops was the least amount of regular season games won by a team who did not get relegated from the ABBL. All thanks to HP Tigers who went bot half way through the season with a record of 2-20*.

Season 2 doesn't count! GM's gave the Eagles the freakin title!

@abigfishy... yeah when you put it that way, Koop has had his fair share of good luck to offset the bad. Still, I'd kind of like to see Duffill, Mansfield and Bogan come together and win a ring before it's too late, all 3 of them are likely first ballot hall of famers in Australian BB...

Oh, and we shouldn't have any sympathy for Koop for the Radford thing, because I still maintain I would have won anyway, right? ;)

In that finals series, Hahi bin Awang was probably my best player, scoring 20 points and 10 assists in game one, and 14 points and 10 assists in game 3. Now he is on the Immortals, can lightning strike twice?

True there were 2 consecutive bots in my first two seasons in the ABBL.
But I was the only one who exploited it.
I still had to fight off other teams in relegation battles and to avoid 6th/7th.

$500k a week is an overstatement. Common it was more like $450k =P
