Yeah he's only 18 that's true. But if you check out our NT selection we already have some great 18 year old guards, like this one
(3067677) and this one
(3068074).
We even have a few guards who are not selected yet, but just a few skills behind them, who are 18 as well.
Some players were already very talented when they were picked out of the draft this year, your player cleary wasn't, the funny fact is that he was one of my draft talents haha, so I know his stats when he got pulled.
As you see he got a lot of inept etc, while other 18yo guards got for example 6 respectable stats or even more, so they got the same amount of training as your player (who was pulled with respectable JS as well), but they are way better, overall.
You'd better try to train your player in more different stats as well, because he will be better then, and his salary will stay lower. So it helps your team and your economy.
