A few things.

1. Spend some cash as often as possible to build your arena. It is vital to your success into the future.
2. Cut your squad. Keep your best players. cut the rest now. Can do it by salary or look at the skills for each position and pick your best. IE Point Guard you need someone with Outside Def and Passing. A Center more inside Def and Inside Scoring etc. Don't look at the position it list. IT is only a guide.
3. You want to find 2 young guys of similar height and start training them. Lots of info on training if you look it up. Do one position training. IT is the best way to build your side. To start with someone as Prem All Star or higher potential is the way to go.

That is a starting point. If you need more help yell out.

Just had a look at your roster. You do not have anyone really worth training long term. So I would cut everyone with a salary of 2.5k or less.

And keep your cash to next season starts in a few weeks and there will be lots of 18 year old on transfer market to buy a decent trainee or 2. If you are lucky you might get one in the draft. But at this late stage don't waste any cash on the draft. Not enough time to get anything worthwhile info wise on it. It will be a loto draw for you.

Any 18 year old with prem all star or above would be a great to get your 1st few key players.

Welcome aboard. A few handy tips from a bloke that has been around awhile.

1 - This game is a marathon not a sprint so don't expect everything to go great guns for you in the first month on here.

2 - read the rules & help menu.......then wait a day and read it again........then read it again in a week. heaps of valuable info in there.

3 - train train train. As mentioned above find yourself a couple of decent training prospects and train them at one position. I would suggest getting an 18 or 19 yo now that is pereniall allstar or better potential that has had a bit of training and then wait until the new season starts in a couple of weeks and grab yourself another 18yo then.

4 - Read the forums. There is a wealth of information out there so dig around and find some.

5 - Ask for advice. Find some threads that interest you and ask some questions of some of the more senior managers if there is stuff you don't understand. There are a tonne of very knowledgeable managers that will be more than willing to help you. These would include guys like fishy, yoda, koop, whitebeard, direwolf, mllama, c-cat, bainsy, myself, axis and many more who will give you good advice about the many ways you can improve your team. (appologies to those i left off the list!)

Hope this helps and feel free to PM me or ask some more questions in here.

Welcome to buzzer beater and remember that this game is a marathon and not a sprint. Don't give up and plan for the future and you will reach the top division in Australia soon enough. =P

Great advice from everyone there. A few specific tips.

1) You were superlucky with where you started high up in division III. You will be there next season guaranteed so can make a lot of money. Set your arena prices a lot higher (do your homework and work it out carefully) and build some more seats.

2) Your starting team is garbage. Generally you want to train high potential players but you have none. I don't recomment training low potential guys but the best of your bad bunch is:

Yang Guibang (29407581) Power Forward
Weekly salary: $ 2 999
Age: 18
Height: 6'10" / 208 cm
Potential: star
Game Shape: respectable

But this is ONLY if you want to train a "home grown" guy. If not you can buy better for $1,000 on the transfer list (TL).

3) You can replace all your players with better ones for close to nothing. DO NOT SPEND much until you knoiw what you are doing. You start with a lot and it will be ages before you have this much money again. Get some players for $1,000 with lots of respectable or better skills.

Kevin Lancaster (29407583) Power Forward
Weekly salary: $ 5 801
Age: 27
Height: 6'7" / 201 cm
Potential: allstar
Game Shape: respectable

Kevin is too old to train but can probably play a bit. I ould probably fire the rest of your team besides him and Yang.If I was going to keep a third it would be:

Bradford Caulee (29407576) Center
Weekly salary: $ 1 250
Age: 31
Height: 6'8" / 203 cm
Potential: bench warmer

because it is handy to have a very cheap player to play in practice matches (scrimmages).

I have loads more tips, I will post more if you respond to this.

Yay Leo! Here have a forum ball :).

Your goal next season should be to avoid relegation and expand the arena. Trust me, Division IV is a place you don't want to be (most D4's are inactive and therefore no fun at all, and it's hard to save up money in an active D4 compared to D3). Not only will it be good for your finances to remain in Division III, it'll also make the game more fun as you'll be competing against active teams instead of a bot league that you'd be likely to fall into should you relegate.

On the other hand though, tanking next season does have it's benefits if you can accept the idea of next season and probably the season after that being boring for you. For starters, you can take full advantage of not having to pay the salary floor for the first 16 weeks and gain some big $$$, though it might not be as much $$$ as you'd be hoping for because eventually the fans will get sick of supporting a losing team.

The 2nd reason to tank would be to gain the 1st overall pick in your league draft. This would almost guarantee you a great player (well, potentially great, you still have to train them) as long as the draft isn't a poor one and you pump a lot of points into it. But again I must stress the fact that this is the boring option and the more exciting option for you is to try to avoid relegation (and who knows, you might still pick up a great draftee with that mid-round pick).

You have an 18yo star potential player so if you're going to train anyone in your initial squad, train him, but don't invest too much money, if any, into training staff until/unless you pick up someone better in the draft or on the transfer list. Out of the remaining players, I suggest cutting your 6 worst players for now and keeping only the best 12 on the roster. If you want any help in determining who your worst 6 are, take a screenshot of your skills table in the 'set your lineup!' page and share it (you can BB-Mail me if you don't want the general public to know your player skills, though at this stage that's probably the least of your worries).

Here's a user-made FAQ that you'll probably want to read as much of as you can: (144856.1). Some of the advice is outdated (like the tactical advice and the draftee wage estimations), but most of it still holds up very well today.
