Yesterday, I was having a morning coffee at a cafe here in Warsaw, Poland. A little Polish girl carrying a flower walked up to me with her parents, she couldn't have been more than 4 years old. Her father asked me if I was the coach of the US National Team, he must have recognized me because my picture was all over the papers covering my drunken rampage following our loss to Spain. I told him I was the coach, and the little girl shyly walked up and offered me the flower. I reached down to take the offering and the girl poked me in the eyes and then kicked me repeatedly as I rolled over in pain on the floor.
That's what our week has been like here in Poland, as we prepare to play the Polish National Team on Monday. It didn't help when namssor used a TWSS joke on Polish president Bronisław Komorowski when he greeted us at an official function. SpF is back, we found him trying to stowaway on a boat back to the US and are forcing him to stay.
Jelme flew in from the states today. I asked him for his help with the players, as many of them are former U21 guys during his tenure. During our practice scrimmages he had the players practice using a blank lineup, which had many of them confused, people were running into each other and teams often had 6 or 7 players on the floor.
Halfway through practice Jelme asked me why we don't have security remove the angry homeless man in the stands who keeps yelling at Jairo. I told him because thats wozz.
Join us in the chat on Monday 6/13 as we face #5 Poland at 12:30pm Eastern, 9:30 am Pacific.
