Last Monday we defeated #2 China and despite the fact that I said we wouldn’t celebrate for long, I woke up hungover and confused this morning in our hotel in Warsaw, Poland. I wandered into the living room to find Timothy Wang passed out on the couch and namssor drawing TWSS on his face with a sharpie. I quickly refocused and we headed off to the arena for practice after picking up SpF from daycare.

At the practice facility I saw Irwin Velasco and quickly asked him what he was doing here. He claimed that he owed Rambo money and this was the only place he felt safe. I felt sorry for him and put him on the active roster.

While the players ran drills, namssor and I began going over our notes on our opponent on Monday, #9 Canada. When the conversation quickly unraveled into jokes about mountees, maple syrup and hockey, we were suddenly interrupted by an oddly familiar voice.

“Hello National Team.” I looked up and saw a man in a Red Sox uniform with a baseball bat.

“…Wozz? Why are you dressed up like a Red Sox player?” I asked.

“I’m not wozz. I’m Dustin Pedroia, and I’m here to support the US Buzzerbeater National Team in Poland. I figured I suck so much at baseball right now that I might as well fly to Poland to help you guys out this week. Just so happens I have a great scouting report of Canada.” With that he handed over a scouting report of the Canadian National Team.

“Thanks wozz! This should really help!” Namssor replied as he looked over the report.

“No problem…I’m not wozz.”

“Hey wozz!” Joe Bronson said as he walked by.

“Hey Joe.”

So I let Dustin Pedroia run practice while I read over the scouting report, and while no one was looking I called my bookie to place a bet on the game.

Join us in the chat as we face off with coach GM-Beanerz and our neighbors to the north on Monday the 23rd, 12:30PM Eastern, 9:30AM Pacific.

NT Post-Game Report: Canada 5/23

Hosting one of the most diverse crowds in recent memory, 20,158 basketball fanatics filled The Temple of BOOM to watch an America's rematch between the Canada NT and the United States NT! Word on the Polish streets were that Canada was looking for revenge after we devastated their cities with our constant partying and celebrating. This game marked the return of Irwin Velasco as he started at SF alongside Martin Medrano, Ricardo Madrid, Jairo Alejandro Renteria, and Geoffrey Galloway. Team USA had the fire in their eyes, and Coach Jfarb had the guys ready to play, so let's get right down to it.

In a very close first quarter, both teams traded baskets the entire 12 minutes. The USA decided to use a Run and Gun with a man defense while our Canadian counterparts decided to use a look inside and 3-2 zone. Both teams had their shots falling from all over the floor. At 3:44 Martin Medrano hit a jump shot to give the US a 20-19 lead and after electrifying the crowd with Martin's signature "Medrainage Taunt" the roof in the arena was about to blow! Celebrity Johny Depp was with Pirates of the Caribbean co-star Penelope Cruz as they came to support Team USA and give all the players and staff tickets for the new movie, he stated that the Medrano shot was "Just plain amazing... argh!" After the first quarter was all set and done the USA led 26-25.

The second quarter started off with a slam by Timothy Wang and was capped off by a Dexter "Dimes" Dennison jump shot with 4 seconds left for a total of 33 points scored in the second quarter for the US. The US defense also kept Canada to it's lowest scoring quarter at 23 points. Domestic Scout Panic had this to say on the great 2nd quarter, " Wow! That's how it's done!" Clearly the momentum was with Team USA heading into the locker room with a 59-48 lead!

All of the players gathered around Assistant coach Namssor for words of guidance to head into the second half.
Namssor walked by every player.. shaking every one of their hands.. he then stopped at Irwin Velasco and Joe Bronson.
Namssor: Ok guys.. we're going to try something I want you Joe-Bro to motivate Irwin and Irwin you do the same for Joe here.
Velasco: Hmm sounds good.. ok Joe, I wish you would finish already!
Namssor: That's what she said!
Bronson: I'm not shooting that turrible.. atleast I don't have a turnover from a pass Irwin!
Velasco: Hey it was coming right at my face!
Namssor: That's what she said!
Bronson: Ok well.. Namssor I think I understand the purpose of all this we need eachother to motivate one another and play better.. I have to shoot better and Irwin has to limit mistakes.
Velasco: Yeah this is a lot to swallow.
Namssor: That's what she said!!!

The players were ready for the second half. Coach Jfarb told me that they knew a daunting task lay ahead for this second half they would have to hold off a Canadian surge to pull of this win. Sure enough the third quarter saw the US maintain their lead of 11 as both teams dropped 25 points.

The fourth quarter was upon us, the players gassed but their games were at their top level. Team USA started the quarter with the lead of 11 but as time ticket Canada slowly chipped away at the lead. As Jfarb watched the lead dwindle you could tell he was starting to get "nervous". At 1:45 Canada had hit a shot to be down 2. The events that followed were a jump shot by Ricardo Madrid, Rambo's special delivery Peruvian food to Canada SG Jabir Issa had caused him to cramp up and leave, Bronson hit a clutch 3, and free throws gave the United States the 122-111 Win

The United States was now 2-0 in the Worlds so the atmosphere was amazingly crazy when trying to get to the interview table. Sitting in the chairs ready for interviews was Irwin "Sure Win" Velasco and Ricardo "The Rocket" Madrid.

SpF: Velasco! Wow is all I can say! You played great out there for your first game this NT season!
Velasco: Thanks! I mean I don't know what was going on tonight.. 12-13 shooting! I just could not miss
SpF: Yeah you were making it rain out there from all over, 2-2 from deep range, got a few free throws and a balanced stat line with 5 rebounds and 5 assist.
Velsaco: Great game.. I'm glad that I got called up and performed! I also payed off my debt to Rambo so this was just overall a great day!
SpF: Good to hear Irwin! What are your thoughts on the rest of the World's tourney?
Velasco: Well with all of us playing some great basketball were going to be hard to beat especially if I now DECLARE i'm averaging 30 points 5 rebounds and 5 assist a game
SpF: Umm wow Velasco.. that's a lot on the plate.. do you really think you could pull that off?
Velasco: Yeah I'm Irwin Velasco! Am I right everybody?
Crowd: *Crickets*
SpF: Well once again great game Velasco, I look forward to talking to you again!

SpF: Ricardo! Ricardo! Nice job out there tonight!
Madrid: Why thank you SpF!
SpF: What are your thoughts on your game tonight?
Madrid: I had an ok game, but with everybody else we pulled out the upset, improve to 2-0, and have even more momentum heading into next weeks game!
SpF: That's what I like to hear! So have you settled on "The Rocket" being your nickname?
Madrid: I think it's a temporary nickname.. I'm still experimenting, how about:
- Ricardo "The Matrix" Madrid?
- Ricardo "Here We Go" Madrid?
- Ricardo "SureShot" Madrid?
- Ricardo "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of American and to the..."
SpF: Alright Alright Madrid.. those are all great nicknames and I hope you the best of luck picking the right one!
Madrid: Thanks SpF!

On my way to find NT Head coach Jfarb, I ran into a man who resembled Dirk Nowitzki.
SpF: Wow... Wozz.. what's up?
Dirk: No I'm Dirk Nowitzki! Just came home to my country to see this great American team that was built around the great Wozz tenure as coach, after I just beat The Thunder in game 4, I could make it over here!
SpF: Well Dirk.. you're from Germany not Poland
Dirk: *Awkward silence* Yes I knew this, I was just pulling your leg!
Jairo: *Jairo walks by* Wozz you look like Dirk!
Dirk: Jairo I am Wozz not Dirk
*Awkward Silence*
Dirk: I mean I'm Dirk not Wozz!

Coach Jfarb statement: "I won!!!! *jfarb throws $ in the air* (Willis Lundy is seen picking it up) ....I mean we won, we won...the game. Happy to be 2-0 and playing well in the Worlds. I told Velasco if we won and he played well that I'd pay off his debt to Rambo, so I think that motivated him. Late in the 4th Canada made a run, and instead of not panicking, I decided to change things up and do the opposite, so I panicked and put Bronson in at PF. Worked like a charm. Morocco next, can't wait to see what the line on the game is...I mean what time the game is."

The USA is now 2-0 in the Worlds, we pick up momentum on our championship run but the battle is not over! Join the offsite forum and and in the discussion for next week's game against Morocco!
