The United States U21 team is opening their season against Mexico after an impressive run to the World's semifinals last season! Under new manager Rambo VT, things expect to be different this season. Rambo has instituted a new policy for U21 that former manager Jelme never considered. That policy is, for all players who do not injure an opposing player in a game, they will not play in the next game. "I really hope this works to make our guys play aggressive," Rambo was quoted as saying. "This way, we can injure so many players, we can guarantee a victory."

Asked what kind of offense and defense we would run, Rambo said this: "Offense I haven't decided yet, but I know I will run a Full Court Press defense."

"Why is that?" asked jfarb, the manager of the National Team. "Everyone knows FCP sucks."

Rambo responded, "Well, if we press, that means we save 3 seconds each possession when the other team has the ball brining it up the court. And if they have 90 possessions, that is saved 270 seconds, which is 4 minutes and 30 seconds. That's 270 seconds more we have to injure players." Jfarb had no clue why Rambo was so obsessed with injuring players.

Before our flight to Peru for the Americas tournament, Rambo and I said their goodbyes to America and the NT staff. In an emotional moment, SpF started crying and gave Korey a big bear hug. When asked what he was doing, SpF responded, "Man, I'm so proud of you, my little boy is growing up!"

"SpF, I am only a year younger than you!" I responded, confused at him.

He said, "Bro, I wish you could come to Poland for the NT World's Tournament with me. I'm gonna miss you.." SpF's cries now turned to sobs, and he drew way too much attention from the airport staff. They came to jfarb, and told him to keep his little boy under control. With that, Rambo and I left for Peru. Now, it's time for the games to begin!

Game is on Monday, May 2nd, at 6:30 ET, 3:30 PT. Join the discussion for the NT and U21 on the offsite forum http://s3.zetaboards.com/BuzzerBeater_USA_NT/index/. BB-mail jfarb (28800) when you sign up so he can approve your account.

Thanks for the write up Korey. I am looking forward to the season. It's been a hectic week of scouting players and I'm ready for the calm of having a set roster. That said, I decided to start with 10 players as you can see. The rationale and discussion is on the offsite forum here:

It was difficult to pick a starting roster with so many good young players. I intentionally left open 8 roster spots as I have my eye on a number of young prospects that are training quickly.

The Season 16 United States U21 team opened their season with an impressive 101-77 win over Mexico! Coach Rambo was very impressed with his team. He was impressed with everyone but one player, that is. That player was Hubert Douglas. Douglas is a usual Point Guard, but he played Small Forward in this game. Douglas shot a measly 4-20 from the field, and put up an even worse rating, with a meager 7.5. Asked for the explanation, Rambo said, "I don't know, Douglas sucks. Jelme had him on the team, but when I got there I dropped him. I did that for a reason. I reluctantly took him back, and then this happens. You're welcome moflaffle." Moflaffle, obviously, is the owner of Douglas. Douglas has the second lowest salary on the team, "behind" Dean Beverly. Beverly, however, shot a solid 5-8 from the field, and scored 12 points in 14 minutes for a rating of 13.5, the second highest on the team.

Besides Douglas atrocious-at-best performance, the team played very well. Shooting Guard Ben Jack scored 26 points on 11-17 shooting, and Power Forward Ron Crowder has a double-double, with 12 points and 10 rebounds. While watching the game on TV while in Poland, NT coach jfarb liked what he saw. "They all played well. Well, besides Douglas obviously, who is the only one on that team that I think has no chance of making the NT in the future."

When the game started, Rambo was really excited. He called for the team to "Push the Ball" on offense, and play Man to Man on defense. Mexico ran the Princeton offense, and 2-3 zone for defense. In the first quarter, the game was close, and Mexico even jumped out to an early 7-2 lead. However, the United States cruised to an easy 101-77 win after that. One thing Rambo did not like, besides Douglas' play, was the fact that the team did not follow his policy. That was, no playing the week after if they did not injure anyone. No one committed any injuries, and they will pay the price. "I have decided to drop all of them and add Perry Gipson Jr. to the team!"

"But, Gipson is only 27, so how old is Gipson Jr.?" Jfarb curiously asked Rambo over the phone.

"17. He will be drafted next season!" Rambo proudly proclaimed.

"So, Perry Sr. had a kid when he was 10 years old?" Jfarb asked, wondering.

"Sure did." Rambo said.

Anyway, the team refused to let me interview them this week, for whatever reason. They will, however, let me interview them next week. That's all, GOOOO USA!

I hate Douglas. On team road trips all he does is say "Are we there yet?" and fart next to people. He's the type of guy that needs to be removed from Buzzerbeater.
