The Fish Bowl: Season 2 - MVP Race

Preview

Another season of XBB vs IV.7 is about to begin, among all the trash talking and mud slinging, an MVP will be named at the end of the season. Will it be a dominant big man or a play maker who takes out the crown this season? Here's a preview of the players to look out for this season!

Prizes

There will be a prize awarded by me this season for the MVP winner. They are as follows.
3 months supporter for MVP winner.
3 months supporter for league winner.
If the MVP comes from the league winner's team, the prize will be upgraded to ONE year's supporter! WOWOWEEWA.

Early MVP Candidates

Nenad Lukić (13095663) TeamAkuma

Nenad had a breakout season last year, averaging 16.9 points per game. Has a lot of work to do to match some of the superstars in this league, but if he keeps developing the way he is, look for him to sneak in with a few strong performances. Needs to work on his shooting.

16.9 PPG 5.9 RB 3.4 AS 39% FG%

Uditi Samdup (10839360) Western Titans

Former U21 Australian player who has represented Australia 9 times. Known for being a monster down low and his strong rebounding, Samdup will need to go up against some powerhouses inside the paint this season to prove his worth.

18 PPG 13.4 RB 2.5 AS 64% FG%

Spencer Johnson (9469840) The Pwnage

Another former U21 player, Spencer is known as a dogged defender, and his ability to shut down his opponent was key to his inclusion in the U21 NT side two seasons ago. However, his scoring ability is not to be underestimated.

19.7 PPG 3.6 AS 37.4 3PT% 45.6% FG%

Dave Hamilton (10839527) Maggots

A good all round guard with the ability to hit from downtown or find his teammates. Will be dangerous, along with his partner in crime Urwin. Look for him to win games on his own.

19.3 PPG 5.2 AS 37% 3PT% 46%FG

Rodrigo Bustos (2894405) SASTROOPERS

Partner in crime with Ky Smeltz, the smaller of the twin towers is a capable of dominating on days where Smeltz isn't. Look for him to pick it up when teams double on Smeltz.

17.1 PPG 10 RB 3.5 AS 56% FG%

Ky Smeltz (10071569) SASTROOPERS

The 'fat cat'. Won the MVP last season. Dominant inside scorer, who has been secretly taped in the gym working on his defense and jump shots. Look for his skill set to expand this season and be prepared for his mid-range jumpers! Currently awaiting his debut for the Australian National Team.

16.9 PPG 13.6 RB 48.9% FG%

Oliver Ðuričko (11263596)Chelsea Seagulls

Should be renamed Money. Ðuričko was on fire last season and clearly he is the alpha dog on the Seagulls. A big threat from 3-Point range and a willing passer makes him a nightmare to defend. I expect him to lead the Seagulls to glory this season.

31.0 PPG 4.8 AS 43% 3FG% 47% FG%

Xie Guanzheng (11323951) Melbourne Goldfish

Known for his exotic taste in women and all things spicy, Xie is the hottest property currently in Melbourne. His ability to hit the jumper, rebound and make players for his teammates makes asian women crazy. He will be in the running as long as the fishy's have a successful season.

23.6 PPG 5.9 RB 4.0 AS 45.6% FG%

Don Gresham (792187) Melbourne Goldfish

The Batman or Robin of the Goldfish? Doesn't matter. Affectionately known as 'The Don', he is the leader in the paint for the Goldfish. To get to him, you need to get past the mafia in the front court. Look for him to defend the most dominant inside players.

9.2 PPG 12.8 RB 51% FG%

Kye Duffill (10080211) Da Fat Boy Slim

All Time Great? Maybe one day, right now he's a superstar. A beast on the inside, he will be a tough one to match up against for most bigs. Look for him to dominate games.

17.0 PPG 13.0 RB 61% FG%

Eugenio Dell'Asta (10058043) Kynlala Knights

Current NT player. Versatile PF who can also slot into SF and Center. Known for his ability to score inside and along the perimeter, whilst also being a dogged defender both inside and outside. Will be a nightmare for most matchups.

17.9 PPG 12.8 RB 2.4 AS 56% FG%

Shaun McArthur (12525988) Kynlala Knights

Current U21 NT player, a triple double threat every game, and his speed at driving to the basket is scary. Look for him to improve his outside defense and jump shot this season.

19.0 PPG 6.8 AS 5.2 RB 41% FG%

Alfred Rooney (10023138) Koopasaurus

Former U21 player, he is a fantastic ball handler and rebounder. Consistent triple double threat. Has the ability to light it up on the scoreboard and dish to his teammates. Look for him to have a big season as he matures.

16.9 PPG 7.5 AS 6.3 RB 39% FG%

How the voting works

The players will be graded on their performance, not just their game rating. This can be any combination, and will largely depend on whether their team won or not, how the other players in their team played and how the other team played.

That means there are various scenarios that can play out.

Player X is a C. Scores 7 points, but has 25 rebounds and 7 blocks, along with 0 turnovers and 4 assists. His team wins by 4 points. I will more than likely give him the 3 MVP points over his teammate who scored 35 points on 15-32 shooting.

So the main thing to remember is, rating isn't the deciding factor. It's all about stats. It's all about how you play against the opponent. Defense, scoring, blocks, assists, FG%, you name it. It will be factored in.

3 points for the Game MVP.
2 for the runner 1.
1 for third place.

That's the wrap. I wish you all the best for the coming season!

What a fantastic writeup. Balls are coming your way I am sure. It is great to see the 4 new teams we have added for season two all come with at least one major Aussie star. I think it was said somewhere else, we could make an Australian team from the players in out league that could give a lot of international teams a run for their money.

Speaking for myself it is amazing to see that Oliver leads our MVP candidates in scoring by such a wide margin. I was sure Smeltz or Xie would have a massive scoring average but his Jordanesque 31ppg leaves Xie at 24 and smeltz at 17 a long way behind. Lets hope that can translate into some wins in division II.

As for who will win it next season I think there have to be three clear favourites our MVP from this season Smeltz is unlikley to score less than 2 in any match, Dudd Duff only misses out ecause sometimes his teammate pinches a 3 vote and Dell'asta who is soon bound for NT duties is a beast at the SF or PF and probably unguardable in our league.

Yeah, I agree. Awesome write-up iwen!

I think it is also awesome that we have so many great Australian players in this All-Aussie private league. (It is also nice seeing Udi getting his first write-up! ;-P)

I am really looking forward to seeing the competition start and seeing this MVP race play out.

excellent write but how will you determine the league winner...

is it based on the ladder position or the winner of the finals?

and Rooney hasn't gotten a triple double yet this season =(

Well since we're using the PL style format, the team at the top at the end will win. The finals game is more of an exhibition..

anyone from JW All Stars worthy of a mention? ahahah

Roberto Llano did come 6th last season in MVP pts i think :)

I'm hoping my backcourt duo of Kent & Vulcan can step up this season with further training & development to become one of the premier backcourt tandems in the League!!

I'll be doing a separate writeup for each individual team and their keys to the season.

But you never know, I may have missed it =)

There are more good big men in the league than guards, so I think he'll get beat down a few times!

Be careful of having a Vulcan on your team.... They find games childish and an illogical use of their time!! (star Trek for those who dont know) "Live long and prosper!!"
