I'd go with training rookies this season. As far as training goes, you'll be much better off- you'll have a lot more money in the bank for future use, you'll have a team of pretty good players after this season, and you won't even have to buy in season four and they will probably be pretty competitive in Div. 4, depending on how well training goes for you.

The problem with your second idea- I hardly ever see any cheap guys with more than 6 or 7k salary. If you wanted 10k+ salary guys that could make you a bit more competitive in Div. 3, you'd have to spend 600-700k each on them unless you got very lucky. Even then you're not guaranteed a thing.

That's a really good deal to get that guy for 400k in my opinion, but then again, he's 30 years old. He would be starting to deteriorate this season or next.

Honestly, I haven't bought a player since week three of last season, and I don't plan to buy any soon- I will when my starting small foward and starting center hit 30 (replace them) and I'll buy a replacement when my Power forward hits 31, but that's about it.

i would clearly go for the second oppurtunity:

1. you stand a chanche to stay in league

2. succes brings income, which should catch up the degression of players value easily

3. Fun, to be competive is lot more fun for me.

My reply is 100% based on experience. I was in exactly the situation you're in, and I think I chose wrong.

My first full season of playing BB I promoted quite easily out of Div IV. I had some good young prospects, but I wanted to train the next superstar. I sold my young players and bought some excellent 18 year old players with the intention of tanking in Div III and getting a "great" draft pick. My plan only kind of worked - I got relegated, but I didn't end up with nearly the draft that I had hoped. I sold my two picks for about 500k total and figured, "okay, no big deal, I'll just pop back up to Div III next season." Unfortunately, there turned out be another solid team in my Div IV league. I lost, and now here I am in Div IV again! I am sooooo missing the extra money that comes with being in a higher division. I got fantastic deals on my staff, so I don't want to get rid of them because they'll be reasonably priced for the next couple seasons. However, I'm only making about 20k a week right now - just treading water.

Morale of the story - stay up! The extra money is worth it, and if you intentionally drop down, your stay down may be longer than you predict!

cheers!
