Anyone recommend any single player games like this? Any of the major American sports, football/baseball/hockey/basketball. No twitch video games, random rookie generation, good AI management, and preferable some financial aspect although that's not the most important part.

For baseball there is Computer Simulated Fantasy Baseball League (CSFBL). I don't play it anymore, but I remember it was a lot of fun when I did. A lot of statistics and skills, if you are into those kinds of things. I remember way back, that BB and CSFBL had some cross advertising going.

I used to play that one, but looking for something offline. Itching for stats and progress more than competition lol.

I've read about that. The one thing that kind of turns me off is that I got the impression that it's scripted. Like every draft will have the same players every playthrough, etc. Plus I hear the AI is dumb and you can build an All-Star team no problem.

Gotta agree with you about SimDynasty, only problem I had with it was they let you play for a limited trial period then it becomes subscription only. Other than that, I definitely like the league structure better than the work your way up divisions idea. I like to trade:)

For an established hockey SIM, Hockey Arena http://www.hockeyarena.net/ is best.

A new multisport game (hockey is now available, soccer soon) is PowerPlayManager http://www.powerplaymanager.com/. Its only in its third season, so a good time to jump in!

Both games are free to play but have pro packs for team customization and access to additional information.

Edited to remove referral links, did not realize not allowed until after I posted.

I just randomly stumbled on this thread and wanted to chime in...

I have a fairly large collection of sports simulations. Among them are:

Out of the Park Baseball
(http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/joomla/home-ootp.html)

Front Office Football (NFL and college versions)

Draft Day Pro Basketball, College Basketball, Total Pro Golf
(http://www.wolverinestudios.com/games.html)

Football Manager 2010 (soccer)

I don't know how familiar you are with any of these. If you want one game out of the group, Out of the Park is probably the best. Football Manager's very well-done - your mileage may vary depending on your opinion of soccer. It has the option of a 3D display for match play, which is very impressive, but you'll need a pretty good machine to handle it. Wolverine Studios does very good work. Their games look good, play well, and are well-supported. Any issues I have with their games are just nitpicky. The Front Office NFL game is very well done. Unfortunately, the college game, while good, could have been better, and support appears to be sporadic.

Of course, they all cost. If you can only choose one, I'd say to start on either Out of the Park, or one of the Wolverine basketball offerings. Out of the Park 8 (which is two or three years old now) is free, and Wolverine has previous versions of their basketball games for $10 or $15.

Incidentally, Baseball Mogul was the gateway drug that led me to Out of the Park (a vastly superior game).

I second that Baseball Mogul is prettier but Out Of the Park is a much better game overall.
