This season brings a lot of changes to the league especially in the Big 8. Long time veterans have either finally moved on the next level or succumbed to Father Time and are now rebuilding in Division Four. Among the ascendants: the long time league resident Lion Rebels are now ironically in League II.4 courtesy of their winning the championship last season. Following them into II.4 were the Big 8 and league regular season champion, the Internet Love of F.Dday.

Falling into division IV were Big 8 stalwart Linndale, now in IV:21, the one and done Muffin Men now in IV:11 and the 209’s Most Wanted now rebuilding in league IV:15. That said new blood has replaced old blood and now we get to the point of today’s show which is to introduce that new blood. First the Big 8 newcomers:

1.) Big Gulp Incorporated:
Path to League III.11: Demoted from II.4.
Players to watch: Chong How Kum, Peter Chastain

The Big Gulp definitely bring experience having very likely seen everything that can be seen during their time in division II. One of the early question marks will likely be will the economic deficiency of a level III cause them to have to give up depth early in the season

2.) Myopic Mauraders:
Path to League III.11: Demoted from II.4.
Players to watch: Walid O’Reagan, Yiorgos Chrisikakos

Another team very familiar with the level II ranks. If the Warriors, Dragmort, and Shandong thought they were going to have an easier time getting to the top of the Big 8. The presence of the Mauraders and the Big Gulp should put on halt on those assumptions

3.) Profs
Path to League III.11: Promoted from IV.59.
Players to watch: Sammie Romo, Sean Matthews

The Profs hopefully have a good bunch of wise men at their disposal as they are relatively inexperienced with level III, having been in existence since this season from the look of things. Hopefully for their sake the adjustment process is easier than one would expect coming into such a situation.

4.) Retro Heat
Path to League III.11: Promoted from IV.5
Players to watch: Jayden Tennyson, Loren Juarez

The Heat have been around for a while doing the promotion/demotion IV to III and vice versa for a while now.

5.) Vancouver Webs
Path to League III.11: Promoted from IV:34.
Players to watch: Christopher Pelhate, Benoit Decelle

Again a relatively new squad to the game. Will be in their second season as the Webs after a long history as the Houston Texans. Again a question will be how fast they adjust to play of division III

The Great 8 only lost two teams to delegation: the VileOnes and the Balls to the Wall who both now reside in IV.2. In their places are following newcomers:

1.) Chippewa Reds
Path to League III.11: Promoted from IV.49
Players to watch: Ben Junchong, Spencer Allison

The newly form Chippewa Reds won the IV.49 championship to advance to division III for the first time. Ben Junchong and Spencer Allison who both came to life in last season IV.49 championship series, will be looked upon to anchor the team as they get a feel of the new Redlands

2.) Patriots
Path to League III.11: Promoted from IV.39
Players to watch: Ricky Jameson

The former IV.39 champions will find themselves with a relatively thin roster talent wise in a conference surrounded by hostiles who have no problems preying upon them. Ricky Jameson will have a difficult time anchoring this team from the interior.

We trying something knew out. I been in division 3 a few times. The hope is to make a playoff and final run. We shall see. Great to see an active league. Looks like a lot of good teams so it should be competitive. This is my second team overall. Used to play this back when i was in high school around season 10 for many years.

Weekly Power Rankings :
Part 1: Big 8

Big Gulp Reincarnated
Record 2-0

Mind Jumping Nbrs: 63 which is the average amount of points they are allowing

The Gulp so far are 2-0 and haven’t allowed a league opponent to get over 70 points yet. Their offense has been putting up numbers but their defense is the story of why they’re number 1 in the rankings

San Dominica Warriors
Record 2-0

Mind Jumping Nbrs: 26, amount of assist Etienne Blanchet has after two games

Right now the Warriors have the edge in quality wins over Shandong Golden Lions. Right now Blanchet and Alidori are giving the Warriors quality guard play, will their frontcourt eventually match the effort of their backcourt

Shandong Golden Lions
Record 2-0

Mind Jumping Nbrs: 4, average nbrs of steals Daniel Gay has to add to his 7 assist average.

Right now strength of schedule has the Lions behind the Warriors, but that can easily change as they take on the Gulp and the Dragons of Dragmort

Dragmort Dragons
Record 1-1

Mind Jumping Nbrs: 4.5, the average amount of offensive rebounds Asil Anil “Packrat” Pakzat is giving the Dragons.

Right now it has him at 6th in the league but by the end of the season last year it had him second in the league. Pakzat gives the Dragons multiple second chances on the offensive which can be the key to the Dragons making a run for a playoff spot

Myopic Mauraders
Record 1-1

Mind Jumping Nbrs: 8, the average amount of assist the big man Yiorgos Chrisikakos has.

A big man dropping dimes is usually signs of a lacking backcourt or a dangerous MVP calibur player that can anchor a team to a playoff spot. Most would probably say the former but right now we’re putting our faith in the latter

Retro Heat
Record 0-2

Mind Jumping Nbrs: 6, the average number of points the Heat have lost their games by

The good news for the Heat, no one is going to say they’re pushovers they just need to figure out a way for their bench to help their starters out late in the final quarter.

Vancouver Webs
Record 0-2

Mind Jumping Nbr: 1, average place in scoring rankings Fernando Marin hold in the league.

If there is scoring stat he is either nbr 1 or in the top 5. No doubt Marin belongs in III.11. Problem is this man is the vanguard, the rearguard, x-guard, y-guard etc. Until Marin gets some help the Webs are going to be stuck on the outside looking in playoff wise.

Prof
Record 0-2

Mind Jumping Nbr: 22.5, the average amount of turnovers the Wise Men are giving up per game.

The combined amount of average turnovers by the Big Gulp, San Dominica, and Shandong is 29. The first issue the Council of Wise Men have to deal with is ball security or their stay in III.11 is going to be a short on time, long on pain one.

Later in the day Part 2: Great 8

Brian:
I’m Brian Sanborn and welcome back to the Warrior Pre-Game Show. We’re here at the SMG where the Warriors will take on the Big Gap Reincarnated. I’m with Hunt of course, along with Bret “The Legend” Rodrigues and Douglas Diamond. A big one here guys as the winner here could find themselves in atop the standings in the Big 8 least till the start of interconference play. Hunt I’ll start with you

Hunt:
This is going to be a phenomenally defensive game. Both of these teams have made their identities on the defensive end. The Gulp, one of the few teams we have seen that believes in pressing. Etienne Blanchet is averaging nearly 13 assist per game. The league leader in dimes is going to be tested here at home tonight.

Bret:
I’m with Hunt, those who are expecting this to be a 120 to 110 matchup, just right now accept that that’s not gonna happen. If either team reach higher than a 100 then it’ll mean this game went out of control for one of these teams real quick.

Brian:
Double D?

DD:
I agree with Bret on the scoring end result. But … I think the Gulp will want to get ahead fast and put up a lot of points. Make that San Dominica offense have to work and wear down their starters.

Hunt:
See I think the Warriors are going to go for that same strategy. Try to get ahead give their bench a shot to come in and keep pressure on that Gulp bench and make it so that their starters have to work hard to keep up

DD:
That has been what has worked for the Warriors so far this season.

Brian:
We talked about Blanchet and his assist but we have to give a mention to Marko Koroman who has been phenomenal on the boards for the Gulp.

Bret:
Yeah an underestimated big man that I don’t think is going to be underestimated by season’s end. The Warriors I’m sure are hoping that O’Brien can stay out of foul trouble and hope their dynamic board duo can counter Marko Koro.

DD:
For the Warriors tonight. Everyone who wears that uniforms has to step it up. Everyone it’s gonna take a 10 man effort tonight.

Brian:
We will soon see. When we come back, we’ll get word from Samantha from the court just before tipoff. This is the Warrior Pre-game show on 98.7.
