We’ve reached the post-season! Here’s a preview of the first round games for the EBBL

A 1st Vs 2nd game between Arsenal 98 and Optic Fibres on the final day determined that Arsenal 98 claimed top spot in the Big 8 conference with a 18-4 record. They will face (one of) England’s oldest franchises, Gauson. Arsenal will be without star PF Henningsen due to Injury while Gauson have had some roster turnover recently.

The other big 8 tie sees Optic Fibres host MexicanTaxiDriver. 35yo Baro has led the Fibres this season averaging 24ppg, including a 46 point game against MTD in their most recent matchup. MTD are going to need to slow him down if they want to produce an upset.

Over in e Great 8, Team Nook became only the 4th team to go 22-0 in a EBBL regular season, the first since season 28. They will face Bromley-By-Bow for the second season in a row. Bromley have made a recent purchase of Justiniano who is a Ghanaian NT player, but have since lost English NT Catty.

Back to back champions Mortal Wobmats will start their quest for a 3-peat on the road to Isca Centurians after they finished as the 3rd seed after focusing on their cup campaign. A 469k salary advantage suggests the Wombats are still favourites for this tie despite being away.

BC Zalgiris beat Roaring Lions on the final game of the season to earn the 7th seed and a chance of survival. They will face T20 Cricketers who have recently sold 4 of their top 6 players so this series could go either way.

Camden Kings also picked up a win on the final day of the season to jump up to the 7th seed, where they will face Reds BC. Reds BC will be without Kasiura for game 1 and possibly game 2 and 3. Reds BC won the sole matchup this season by 39 points.

The final relegation series sees CWA Fury host Bournemouth Drunkers. CWA Fury started the season well with a 3-1 record, but struggled from there going 4-14 to finish 7-15, including a home loss to the Drunkers. But the Drunkers also come in on poor form with only 2 wins in their last 10 games.

Roaring Lions and Expatriots have been relegated back to division II after finishing as the 8th seeds. The Lions will get the first pick in the draft.

Here is the rankings for the final automatic promotion spot, given to the division 2 #1 seed with the best record not to win their playoffs:
Porzigod 22-0 +987 PD (II.2)
MILF Hunters 21-1 +846 PD (II.3)
Gophers 21-1 +811 PD (II.4)
Durham Wasps 21-1 +741 PD (II.2)
Borac Basket 20-2 +484 PD (II.1)
Toral Castro 18-4 +526 PD (II.1)
JA Miami 18-4 +491 PD (II.3)
BC Lietkabelis 1964 16-6 +460 PD (II.4)

Notable-
BC Black Dragans finished as 2nd seed in II.4 with a 21-1 record but behind Gophers by 2 PD. So if they don’t win the playoffs, Porzigod and MILF do win then they’ll have missed out on promotion by 2 points!

Looking forward to our game. Your latest addition makes things tougher but hopefully HCA can prove to be enough for me. Good luck!

Game 1 out of the way! Here’s what went down!

Arsenal 98 dominated from start to finish, winning 130-64 over Gauson in the first round of the playoffs. Bruand top scored for Arsenal with 28 points, but it was a true team performance with 40 assists on 51 baskets.

Optic Fibres came out on top 110-93 over MexicanTaxiDriver in their first round matchup. Baro once again leading the way for Fibres who finished with a monster 43 points on 18-34 shooting. Czerczak also had a strong game with a 18/13/10 triple double.

Arsenal 98 will host Optic Fibres as the teams face off in the playoffs for the 2nd season in a row. Arsenal will still be with out Henningsen who is sidelined with injury.

Team Nook came out of the blocks with a purpose to build a 25 point lead in the 1st quarter which Bromley struggled to come back from. Georgas had 25 points in 25mins for Nook as they progress to the next round.

Mortal Wombats were the only away team to win on night 1 of the post-season with a low scoring 79-57 win over Isca Centurions. Gillespie top scored off the bench for the Wombats with 22 points. The leagues top scorer, Chongjing, was kept quiet with only 14 points on 11 shots.

Team Nook and Mortal Wombats will face off in a repeat of the final game of the season which saw Nook take the victory. Should be another exciting game between the two with Nook’s unbeaten season on the line vs the Wombat’s quest for a 3-peat.

Reds BC just about held off a late Camden Kings run in game 1 of their relegation series to win 109-102. Kaktnieks had a big game for Reds BC with 38 points and 10 rebounds, while Florenza had an efficient 21/16 game for Camden. Reds will welcome back Kasiura for game 2 as they look to cement their EBBL status for next season.

T20 Cricketers ran away to a 104 point victory against BC Zalgiris after they only fielded 3 players. Mairinque led the way with 38 points and 15 assists for T20. Hopefully Zalgiris make more of an effort in game 2 otherwise we could see another one sided game.

CWA Fury got the tor tactics spot on as they beat Bournemouth Drunkers 104-89 in game 1. CWA correctly predicted Drunkers would attack inside and countered with GDP and 2-3 zone. Carneiro top scored for CWA with 32 points off the bench, while Quigley added 23 points on only 14 shot attempts. Drunkers will need to change up their tactics if they want to overcome CWA in game 2

We’ve reached the finals! But here’s what went down on Saturday.

Arsenal 98 are heading to their 7th EBBL finals after a 108-93 victory over Optic Fibres. They were led by perimeter trio: Marinicevas, Gordic and Bruand as they combined for 85 points! Baro once again appeared to be unstoppable as he scored 47 points, making his playoff average 45ppg!

Mortal Wombats quest for a 3-peat came to an abrupt end with a shock 106-78 beating by Team Nook. While the result itself isn’t a big shock, the 28 point difference was. MVP Glavonjic joint top scored for Nook with 26 points and was matched by Kanjilal. Team Nook take their league winning steak to 24 games!

Team Nook will be looking for revenge on Arsenal 98 after they beat them in the season 59 finals 2-0. They will go in with confidence after their performances this season, but Bergkamp’s men will have their eyes on a 4th EBBL title.

T20 Cricketers cemented their EBBL status for next season by completing an easy 2-0 sweep over BC Zalgiris. Dovalle top scored with 38 points, as all 6 players scored double figures for T20.

Reds BC also booked their spot in the EBBL next season with a convincing 104-77 victory over Camden Kings. Fullerton scored an efficient 22 points on only 10 shots to lead the way.

Bournemouth Drunkers were able to force a game 3 with a 128-112 win over CWA Fury, thanks in part to a change in tactics which forced an incorrect guess for CWA. Zdelar had a big game for Drunkers with 37 points including 7 3-pointers. Carneiro was unconscious with 54 points off the bench, but injuries to Malta and Peto proved too much to overcome. Injuries to them both may for Drunkers confident in making a comeback, but still need to travel for a game 3 on the road.

3 out of 4 division 2 finals will see both number 1 seeds facing off, with the exception being in division II.4 which saw BC Black Dragons beat Gophers to reach the finals. This means that Gophers will only promote if Milf Hunters and Porzigod win their respective finals.

Team Nook extended their league winning streak to 25 wins with a comfortable 110-87 victory in game 1 of the finals. England NT duo Georgas (37) and Kanjilal (29) combined for 66 points on 63% shooting which Arsenal 98 were unable to cope with. Colla led the way for Bergkamp’s men with 22 points on 10-15 shooting from the PG spot while Vanderstam contributed a solid 16 points, 9 rebounds in 22mins off the bench.

While game 1 was dominated by Nook, game 2 shapes up to be more exciting with Arsenal 98 heading back home, with a bigger enthusiasm advantage and Henningsen likely in better game shape as he recovers from his injury.

2 injuries for CWA Fury in game 2 proved costly as they lost a decisive game 3 98-90 against Bournemouth Drunkers. Quigley had 35 points for CWA, but it wasn’t enough for the short handed team. CWA Fury have been relegated.

Division 2 finals:
II.1- Borac Basket 112-69 Toral Castro
II.2- Porzigod 82-70 Durham Wasps
II.3- MILF Hunters 102-77 JA Miami
II.4- BC Black Dragons 126- 103 BC Lietkabelis

If Borac Basket and MILF Hunters win their series’ the Gophers will earn the final promotion spot

Thanks! Very happy to have finally got my first title. Even more special that it was Kanjilal leading the way in the crucial game. Almost 3 real life years of training him to get to this moment!
