I like your passion and im not down playing the problems that exist with micronations but instead am trying to put it into perspective with what I believe is a bigger problem to Buzzerbeater in this rapidly changing world of technology, which IMO is the lack of an "App".

You dont think a free "App" would very quickly add 100 users to the Nippon competition?

Would not a 100 extra users in Nippon make the game a lot more enjoyable and fix most of the problems that exist currently with its existing small number of users?

It is just like the old days again. I think three things here are obvious and one not so obvious.

Numbers have fallen dramatically not just in micronations.
Micronations aren't great but they obviously represent a small proportion of the userbase.
Utopia did not change the trend.

What is not obvious but we must be careful of is too much doom and gloom talk hurts the game. Every time I log onto the forums of a game and I read everyone bagging the game it puts me off the game. I often do this before I start at all or right at the start before I am too invested in it. Often it is enough to convince me to not bother.

This is still a great game. This type of game requires patience but has great rewards. This game is very deep and complex.

However this is the twitch generation and Sid Vicious is 100% correct that if we ever want to stop the numbers from this excellent game bleeding away we need to add an app. Phones, tablets etc have exploded in popularity. There is no way this would be a hard game to port to a tablet. A few forums and basic commaned and it will work. The one thing that perhaps would need to wait a bit is the game viewer which could be a PC only feature initially. Give it a bit of a nice look, put it for free in the app store and people will try it.

There used to even be a ton of players who had the ability to do stuff like this and had the good will. I know when I was involved in writing a computer game years ago one of our players wrote a better GUI than we had for free and let us have it. There are lots of talented young people and uni students out there who have skills but not much money.

People might be willing to doit for free out of love or for peanuts like free supporter for life.
I have 0% knowledge of app programming so maybe if it was harder how about a competition best port to an app with a $1,000 prize and lifetime free supporter.
If that is unprofessional/unethical why not just put it out to tender to the community? We are looking for an app writer to create a good looking BB app offers to be sent to BB-marin.

Finally to Wolph and everyone else. These things are 100% clear.
Micrnations suck.
They aren't getting fixed.
They aren't going anywhere.

They missed their chance to totally fix it. Instead of Utopia they could have let all the second teams have been in official micronations (say less than 30 users) only and totally fixed the problem. Almost no coding, simple and elegant but one or two people cried about it on the forums about how much they only wanted to play in Outer Mongolia with other Outer Mongolian teams (because you know how awesome the competition is in micronations) and instead we got Utopia. So please find some other way to harness your talents with positive and constructive ways to improve the game.

Absolutely correct, many people have stopped thinking of the good things about this game and are instead focused on what problems exist

and Sid Vicious is 100% correct

Im shocked

Primary focus needs to be on creation of an "App" which IMO will actually dramatically improve many of the larger micronations

Phones, tablets etc have exploded in popularity

Yep and as I said even the new model laptops can download apps

Dont agree with this, might have temporarily bandaided the problem though

Yep, I read once before that someone suggested having "tuitions" on how to play the game, put up on YouTube

This would be great and assist and encourage the "twitch" generation

Looks like Pakistan could soon have company, if indeed an empty country can have company. Egypt currently has only one user, and since he hasn't logged in for almost a month it doesn't look good.

A- requires devs and resources. ... Is this a problem worth lots of dev and resources??? So far the answer has been, overwhelmingly NOO!

Don't agree with this: you can just make a bot slightly better but not good enough to win titles and it does not cost resources at all.

Just let them have 4-6k salary players rather than 1-3k maybe even allocate from retired players, pull the better players from all the bots and put them in higher division bot teams, let that randomly select offensive tactics and play blank/LCD at perennial respectable GS.

It's not a solution to bots, but at least it would make it somewhat more bearable.

I completely agree with this point. Trying to please everyone never works, you need to look for what is best for most people in the long run. Honestly they could still give you the option to relocate a 2nd team elsewhere for free (for a single time only, after that we'll have to pay $10, wait seasons for it, lose part of the arena seats, whatever, I don't care) if they wanted to. Again, no coding needed. Utopia would still be there as an elite fantasy nation even if the numbers halved.

Just to be clear, I don't think the micronation users were the ones who complained. At least all of us in India were for it.
