A big thank you to everyone who voted for me to manage the NZ U21 team for another two seasons. In preparation for season 52, I prepared a scrimmage against Thailand which has been played already. Here is the game report:

Scrimmage - vs: Thailand: WIN: 116 - 101 (58506)

MVPs:
1. Ralph Monk - 3 votes.
2. Brendon Saxby - 2 votes.
3. Dean Huhtaniemi - 1 vote.

Next Game:
vs Pakistan. Tune in!

In terms of roster for this upcoming season, I have selected 12 players to start the season. These players will be added tomorrow. It is a very exciting roster with the ability to do multiple things due to the versatility we have within the roster this season. If you would like to join the BB NZ Offsite Forum, please refer to the forum already established on BB, or, you can alternatively send me a BB-Mail. Stay tune for the rest of our U21 season.

Cheers!

Game 1 - vs: Pakistan: WIN: 96 - 50 (58449)

A good win to start our season 52 campaign. Minutes were shared amongst the 10 players chosen which was good to see and shows how versatile our team is this season. Great game stats wise, albeit personal fouls need to be reduced in future games. We look forward to going against Vietnam next week.

Game 2 - vs: Vietnam: WIN: 107 - 74 (58451)

Whilst it wasn't an impressive performance by our standards, we got the win nonetheless. We let them score too many points in both the first and third quarter, which prevented it from being a blow-out win. We scored inside well and our inside defense was amazing, with 16 blocks.

MVPs:
1. Ralph Monk - 3 votes.
2. Epalahame Coleman - 2 votes.
3. Xavier Kainth - 1 vote.

Game 3 - vs: UAE: WIN: 127 - 71 (58454)

Another win in the books, this time, against UAE. An impressive showing from our team led to a dominating 56 point win. 40 assists is something that I am proud of, with both our PG's getting 9 assists each. 71 rebounds to 40 depicted our dominance inside, which made it easier for our guards to get it in their hands to shoot behind the 3 point line which was our point of focus for this match.

MVPs:
1. Ralph Monk - 3 votes.
2. Jed Lizotte - 2 votes.
3. Xavier Kainth - 1 vote.

Next Game:
vs TBC. I will organise a scrimmage with another nation some time this week.

Scrimmage - vs: Ecuador: WIN: 90 - 78 (58893)

We continue our season winning streak with a scrimmage win against Ecuador. Being 3-0 themselves in their continental tournament made them no easy opponent which forced us to bring our A game. The stats were all favourable our way which showed in the result of the match. We continue in our continental tournament against favourites Philippines next week.

MVPs:
1. Epalahame Coleman - 3 votes.
2. Ralph Monk - 2 votes.
3. Brendon Saxby - 1 vote.

vs Philippines. Tune in!

Game 4 - vs: Philippines: LOSS: 59 - 91 (58460)

We face defeat for the first time this season, losing to the favourites, Philippines by 32 points. I take blame for this loss, it was poor decision making, poor tactics and poor scouting on my part that led to this loss. Additionally, injuries to our starting guards, Ralph Monk and Vihaan Singh early in the game also caused a shift in our momentum late in the game, putting up only 9 points in the final quarter. I genuinely thought that we had the chance to keep it a close game but kudos to the Philippines and their manager on a fantastic performance. We must now focus on our final two games in the hopes of qualifying for the next round.

Game 5 - vs: Taiwan: LOSS: 56 - 89 (58462)

We fall to a great team in Taiwan. We didnt score well but our defense was on full display, holding a strong team to scoring 18 and 11 points in the first and fourth quarter respectively. We outscored them 19 to 11 in the fourth quarter showing others that we are not going out without a fight. There are great stats - our offensive rebound numbers are higher (16 to 9), our turnovers were lower (10 to 13) and we fouled less (15 to 21). Whilst the final result wasn't in our favour, the stats were, especially versing the 7th ranked team in the world.

Game 6 - vs: Singapore: LOSS: 66 - 69 (58466)

We lose to Singapore in a very disappointing match to end the first round of games. We do, however, progress to the second round to which the new groups and schedule of matches has already been out. We shot poorly throughout the whole match, shooting 29% from the field, as well as missing two 3 pointers to take the game to overtime. We must now focus on our second round of matches, starting off against South Korea.

1. Huong Nguyen - 3 votes.

Game 7 - vs: South Korea: WIN: 100 - 59 (59006)

A more happier result this week - a win against South Korea in the second round of the Asian Championship Tournament. We started off shaky, but ended up dominating in the third and fourth quarter. This is a great start to the second round, and we must now focus to the rest of our games to ensure that we finish as best as we can.

Game 8 - vs: Australia: LOSS: 71 - 84 (59009)

Whilst the final scoreline did not go our way, our fighting spirit did. We went into the second quarter with a three point lead, but an injury quick into the quarter to our starting SG Ralph Monk quickly derailed our momentum of the game, ultimately losing in the fourth quarter after going into the final quarter behind by four points. Whilst it was a disappointing result, we must now look to the future with optimism as we now know that we can compete against the bigger nations in our confederation.
